I have a samsung lcd tv, it only has DVI, no HDMI. It also has built in speakers.

I have a HDMI to DVI cable plugged it from the ps3 to the TV. Output is 1080i, it looks good. I plugged in the white and red rca cables into the tv's av and set sound output to output from the av cables from ps3 sound settings. However, there is no sound when I playing.

I know the issue is that the tv is in DVI channel, so it disables the AV channel, how do I get around this issue? I checked the TV settings, there is no way to enable both channels :( i have to play using av channel and composite cable to get sound.

are there any cheap speakers that take in the red/white av cables directly?

unless you want to buy an expensive (200+$) converter to allow you to split the signal of the hdmi cable, something i only saw with a quick google search and have no experience dealing with, I'd recommend you just use component cables or something like that, dvi doesnt transmit audio signal so if you have no hdmi input on the tv it sounds like your only two options would be av cables or component cables

If you happen to really be interested here's the only adapter i found that could do what you wanted http://www.amazon.com/Gefen-EXT-HDMI-2-DVIAUD-HDmi-Audio-Adapter/dp/B000T5DTXQ

And here's some component cables which will give you hd video as well as audio, if it's a tv and not in fact a computer monitor it must at least support these

You can convert the two RCA cables to a 1/8th inch female headphone socket with a cheap adapter. from there any cheap PC speakers you find will plug into that and be just fine.

(edit) you'll need two things (kind of ghetto, but it will work, trust me)

RCA female to 1/8" male: http://www.amazon.com/American-Recorder-ART-Stereo-Adapter/dp/B0018SQ67E

1/8" female to female: http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Female-...&s=musical-instruments&qid=1278318080&sr=1-18

You could plug any PC speakers into that. Oddly Icouldnt find any RCA female to 1/8" female adapters online. If you could find one of those, you'd only need one adapter....

do you have a receiver? cause your other option would be opical out to receiver

nope, no receiver, I might try Zinn's method, I thought of that, but wasn't sure if it was going to work

Zinn's method does work, me and my buddy both do it that way, got my parts from Radio Shack.

I just noticed that it has a "PC Sound (ST)" 3.5mm port, any idea what that is? is that an input? can i get an adapter like this: http://images2.monoprice.com/productmediumimages/21201.jpg

basically 2 rca female to 3.5mm male, then plug it into that PC sound port? it's underneith the svideo and composite ports on the tv... wonder if that port is enabled even if the DVI channel is selected

+1 on Zinn/rlee's method. I'll soon have my PS3, PC, and Xbox360 hooked up to my Z-5300e's using those exact adapters+splitter combos.

if you have a pc with Z-5300's connected to it, you should be able to use the line in of your audio card to get your ps3/360 sound working. thats how i have it setup at home, but i'm not at home right now

this is probably exactly what you need. The Typically the PC sound port is for the DVI or VGA port. You can pick that up at radioshack for a few dollars too.

As a matter of fact the manual states on page 13 this is exactly how you hook it up.

Hm, I haven't explored that actually! I'm using a SB Audigy 2 SE though, if that bit of info changes anything. Can I use the mic input? I don't recall seeing any other inputs on the card.

(edit) Found the input on my card, works wonderfully. Thanks!
