ps3 hard drive upgrade to 500gb compatible?

Both good options, but I do like the 7200rpm models. An SSHD would also be an option.

I've heard SSD are practically no better than standard mechanical HDDs in PS3s because they're limited to SATA1 speeds. Might want to look into that first before plopping down any cash.

SSD is way better on load times for many things.

Sata 1 is 150MBps which most mechanical drives might get peak reads at and mostly get average reads around 70 to 90MB/s.

Even a cheap sata 2 ssd will keep it nice and saturated for reads with near instant seek times.

I have been using a 128GB ssd in my PS3 for over a year and very happy with it. Im sure I saved a ton of time recently with The last of is load times alone.

It is the 2nd best mod i did after putting 2x 80mm fans and new thermal paste the on ps3 which keep it soo cool.
