So we had to setup our barracuda as a proxy today (not thrilled trust me and inline is also not an option), and am going to be forcing on settings via GPO. What I'm trying to figure out is how to get users that go inside and outside of the network to not have to use the proxy server while outside of the network. I can think of a couple of ways, but any suggestions welcome.

Quick and Dirty Solution:
We don't have that many actually mobile users so we just threw together a batch file that writes the registry keys for the Proxy based on their IP address, and if our proxy is pingable.

I'm actually waiting to see what the more elegant options are - we're due for a better solution.

What's the perimeter firewall device? The 1st thing that comes to mind is put the proxy on the dmz (where it belongs) and forward outbound 80 to 8080 (or w/e) on the barracuda.

We have the exact same setup and the same issue. We push out the settings via GPO with a PAC file. They can access the internet fine when outside our network.
