I am looking to get a protoboard for some of my electronics projects that I am currently doing. I was just wondering what other people's experinces were and any info you have on prices and such would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a small to medium size nothing special.
This will mostly be used for testing small to medium scale circuits before they are soldiered together.
I have seen one type locally in passing that was about 6.5" by 9" (unsure of manufacturer) and was for sale for $54.00.

Thanks in advance,
t

I knew that there was one other name I could not think of.

Yeah, the one in the link I have seen once before in the RS catalog but the local RS would charge me for stocking (s&h) it in their store.

I am thinking that I also might want one with an extra IC well or 2.

Im going to keep searching an will post any other questions.

Thanks,
t

protoboard is another name for a breadboard

Protoboard is also another name for perfboard but they are entirely different things.

do a google search for a protoboard and you will find that most of the results you get are actually breadboards so it is easy to get them mixed up

ummm, no - a protoboard can be a breadboard.

Here's the manufacturer that I buy breadboards from: http://www.globalspecialties.com/solderless.html

They cost a little extra - but they have a lifetime warranty on them, so when the pins wear out you can just send them back in and have them fixed up for free. You might also notice that they have "proto-board" written on them.

Yeah I think this is the manufacturer I am going to go through probably a PB-103. Seems like $38.00 at most places. The one I mentioned in the OP is a PB-103 and they want $50 for it (yeah right) so it looks like I am off to Fry's sometime in the near future.

Heh - good choice - the ph103 is my personal breadboard of choice!

i get simple small breadboards from www.allelectronics.com for 5$ ... for other cheap breadboards (they'll still last you a long time, i've never had a problem with any and have had hundreds if not more insertions on them easy) check out http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=105&type=store

outside of that i use one of these from jameco: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/st...toreId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=116199

will last you long enough to save the extra 10-20$ now...

If you really wanna be hardcore, go for one of these: http://www.globalspecialties.com/pb505.html . My company bought one from Active Electronics during their liquidation sales. Not sure how much they paid...but its worth every penny. Its absolutely invaluable to not have to deal with external power supplies when prototyping. The signal generator, led bank, and debounced pushed buttons are all features i use regularly. See if you can find this on Ebay. The model number of the one we have is PB-503-C. Good luck!!!
