Project : Synthetica by AnG3L

Have you followed the work of Tribal Overkill? You would be a great person to take over were he left of - designing insane reservoirs and such.

I ve seen these crazy reservoirs and I really liked them! I wish I could do such amazing and innovative things! Thanks man! :)

Keep up the good work! Looks great :)

Thanks buddy!! I ll try my best! :)

Looking amazing.

I am impressed.

I second the comment earlier in the thread that this would not look out of place in an art gallery, and it is not even done yet :p

This would make a badass looking subwoofer design for a home theater system.

wow that thing is a masterpeice all in self! without the computer o.o amazing sir.

Yes! I thought about it ;) Thanks bro!

I am impressed... this is coming along nicely!

Thank you man! :)

Thanks my friend, I am glad you liked it! :)

amazing transformation with the paint job.

your creation went from the 'weird raw flesh box' (reminiscent of H.R. Giger meets M.C Escher) to...
P7080026.jpg

...a svelte metal/organic sculpture
PA310002.jpg

looking forward to see how you integrate PC hardware into it.
technically, it can't be considered a piece of art as it'll be serving a function, but you're making it awfully hard to maintain that distinction. nice work.

*subs to thread as i pick my jaw up off the ground*

Awesome work Sir!!!

sub'ed very awesome looking, the amount of time you spent on this must be insane !

Welcome aboard my friend thanks for the support!! :)

Thank you my friend for your nice words! I ve been working really hard to achieve this "art in modding" thing and I am glad that I could finally make it after 4 years! Stay tuned for more!! :)

Awesome work Sir!!!

Thanks brother!! Welcome aboard too!!! :)

Keep it up brother.....

This is gonna end up turning out better than Future Schlock, which is really hard to beat!

Time for one more update guys! This is a very random update with some of the things I did during these days.

Lets begin with the GPU modification. As many of you might now, there isnt any full waterblock for the GTX 560 Ti or at least there wasnt till the day I was searching for one so I had to find a solution. I found a kit from Arctic Cooling but I didnt have money for the universal GPU block so... improvising time!!

First of all I disassembled the card by removing the heatsink and inspecting the card further.

PB060004.jpg

PB060006.jpg

PB060007.jpg

PB060008.jpg

I also removed that heatsink in order to attach the Arctic Cooling ones but later I changed my mind as you will see in the process.

PB060009.jpg

You will see that I decided to use the fins along with that original heatsink for 2 reasons. The first reason is that the fins that came with the package there were insufficient and also the size of them wasnt correct. The second reason is that by combining the fins with the heatsink I can hypothetically improve the cooling. So I attached the fins with an adhesive thermal paste.

PB060010.jpg

PB060012.jpg

As I couldnt afford to buy a waterblock for the GPU (also no access to a cnc mill) I had to dig in my water cooling stuff to find a solution. The only compatible in a way block I could find was a Heatkiller CPU block which with some modification would fit just right! So I start measuring and marking the block.

PB080030.jpg

One note to all of my modder friends out there! Working with stainless steel by hand its a PITA for sure!!! It took me 45 minutes to find a proper way to drill 4 holes!! I had to use a cone carbide drill bit after I did some reading on the webs. Also I used some reinforced discs on my dremel to do the cuts.

PB080032.jpg

PB080033.jpg

I polished the copper too as it was really messy lolz!

PB080034.jpg

PB080037.jpg

PB080040.jpg

PB080041.jpg

That backplate came with the Arctic Cooling set.

PB080043.jpg

And after this and that I finished my custom made waterblock and now the card is finished and ready for some tests (crossing fingers!)

PB080046.jpg

PB080051.jpg

Now some other things I did. USB holder modding in process...

PB070017.jpg

Spacers cut and filed after measuring the proper distance between the top part and the USB holder....

PB070022.jpg

Holes for the Bitspower's fan controller....

PB070024.jpg

PB070025.jpg

Clamped the face of the controller to make perfect holes the ghetto way!

PB070026.jpg

Finished!!!

PB070027.jpg

And finally the creation of the power and restart buttons. I cut 1 mm clear acrylic to glue it on the back of the buttons, sanded it, glued it, filled it and last I attached the part from the switch on them. And yes... I also painted them blue candy! I have to tell you that the combination of the colors will look awesome as I did some minor tests with the various items and colors to see how it look and I have to admit that it looks pretty nice!

PB070013.jpg

PB070014.jpg

PB070015.jpg

PB070016.jpg

PB070020.jpg

PB070021.jpg

PB090056.jpg

Thats all for now guys, till next time, Peace!!! :)

Awesome work on the buttons. Did you use an engraving bit and a Dremel? They look CNC'd!

There were cut with laser my friend and I added 1mm acrylic on the back along with the switch top plastic part! Thanks! :)

These days I am working really hard in order to finish the mod as I have some other things that I have to do and ... I dont like leaving unfinished jobs behind!
This will be a quick update as my time is very limited but you will get the "idea"!

So lets begin!

As you will see in this update, I did some mistakes on the designing of one of the aluminum parts and while I was trying to fix it by changing my original plans I was only making it worse.
The most of the pictures are my efforts that gone wasted...
First, the holes for the fan controller and the addition of threads on the face of it.

PB100058.jpg

PB100059.jpg

PB100060.jpg

PB100061.jpg

PB100066.jpg

PB100067.jpg

PB100071.jpg

Some extra shots of the power and restart buttons after the acrylic varnish.

PB110077.jpg

PB110078.jpg

PB110079.jpg

A real mess!!!! Only if you could see the rest of my house.... Here I start measuring for the i/o holes of most of the components and also marking the aluminum.

PB110086.jpg

I also messed with the idea of the creation of a backplate for the mobo i/o shield. More on a following update.

PB120088.jpg

The beginning.... :p

PB140089.jpg

The middle...

PB140091.jpg

Me... messing with my previous "backplate" idea!

PB150100.jpg

PB150103.jpg

PB150105.jpg

PB150106.jpg

And here is... my mistake. I placed the hole for the DVD rom in a wrong place so I decided to use a slim DVD in a different place. I was going to cover the old hole with an acrylic illuminated logo of the mod... Yeah I messed it up!

PB160108.jpg

PB160112.jpg

And here is my creation of the GPU stand-holder. I did something easy but... functional! More on this on an upcoming update!

PB170114.jpg

PB170115.jpg

PB170118.jpg

PB170120.jpg

And here we are!!! New pieces.... I decided to change these 3 not only the "faulty" one as I wanted to do some minor changes. Special thanks to my friend who works in the laser company for the quick delivery and not only!!

PB180123.jpg

And I finally got the acrylic parts!

PB180125.jpg

The cpu block was painted by using a new technique which is textured were the black color is only! Quite amazing huh? :p I thought I could use this technique as from far is distinctive and it blends quite nice with the rest of the "inside" theme!
It also has 3 layers of acrylic varnish which it gives it extra durability and also glossiness.

PB210126.jpg

PB210131.jpg

PB210135.jpg

PB210138.jpg

PB210139.jpg

These are the feet of the mod. Are composed by 6mm a grade black acrylic and 3mm blue fluorescent. I will add a white led in each one of them in order to give them a very smooth ambient light effect. The polish.... gosh it took me forever as the particular black acrylic is very hard as its a good quality one. These pictures are one step before the final.

PB210141.jpg

PB210144.jpg

And the reservoir stand painted a darker blue candy with a very small portion on the right edge treated with the same technique as the cpu. Not visible from far.
The reservoir was frosted except from a horizontal line of 1.5 cm.

PB210153.jpg

PB210154.jpg

PB210155.jpg

Random shots of the ssd cage assembly.

PB210157.jpg

PB210158.jpg

I ve spend one whole day trying to cut the holes on the top black acrylic piece!! I also made some minor changes as you will see.

PB220001.jpg

PB220002.jpg

PB220004.jpg

PB220013.jpg

Final polished feet!

PB220006.jpg

PB220008.jpg

PB220010.jpg

Changed the stand for the usb due to the new laser cut aluminum face...!!!

PB230015.jpg

PB230016.jpg

And one of the ...many test assemblies!

PB230017.jpg

Thanks for reading the update guys, till the next time, peace!! :)

Awesome work. I REALLY like the textured paint. Everything looks perfect. Outstanding level of craftmanship :)

Amazing as always Ang3l, I know how making mistakes after x hours of work can really be fustrating as you know and trying to fix it sometimes just makes it worst and it´s hard to bring yourself to remaking that part from scratch so big kudos! Really loving the progress and waiting for the next update.

I´ll be going to another event on the second week of december but it really wont be the same without geeking out with you outside while having a smoke!! :S

Hey there brother, nice to have you here commenting! I wish I could come too my friend, but unfortunately I will be busy for a couple of months still!! I hope you have a nice time there and I am sure that you will meet other interesting people to have a smoke with!!! Hope we will meet again in a modding show soon! :) Peace!

One more update for you guys is on the way!
Many things I did these days and I am a couple of steps (or more) before the finish line.

First of all is the creation of a "proper" slim dvd stand. The first one wasnt the best solution so I had to create something better. So I came up with that.....

A single piece of aluminum angle which I used to create a housing for the slim dvd.

PB240019.jpg

PB240020.jpg

PB240021.jpg

PB240024.jpg

PB240025.jpg

Neat idea huh? :p

PB240026.jpg

PB240027.jpg

Holes for cathode and led switches..... done!

PB240030.jpg

Various steps of the top acrylic polishing process. 180-230-320-400-600 and polishing buffer wheel at the end.

PB250031.jpg

PB250032.jpg

PB250035.jpg

PB250036.jpg

PB300071.jpg

Led stands were made out of 3mm acrylic and 1mm cnc precut pieces. I gave them the shape accordingly of their placement in the case.

PB260039.jpg

Pieces filed and sanded.

PB260041.jpg

Glued together with plastic welder epoxy.

PB280042.jpg

Filing, sanding and final fixes with some isopon. And ready for painting!

PB280047.jpg

Here is also the gpu stand after the addition of aluminum putty. I filed it into the desired shape and its ready for some painting too!

PB280043.jpg

PB280044.jpg

PB280045.jpg

I used black hammered paint for those parts as it naturally gives a thick and textured surface and its durable as ****!!

PB290062.jpg

I also finished the corners of the bottom case. I used black hammered paint here too for the reasons explained above even though it wont be visible I wanted that textured-durable touch inside the bottom case too.
I let the visible part unpainted in order to apply some carbon Di Noc vinyl I had available.

PB290048.jpg

PB290049.jpg

PB290051.jpg

PB290052.jpg

PB290056.jpg

PB290058.jpg

I finished the modification and installation of the 5 windows on the top part. 2 of these windows are semi frosted for aesthetic and lighting reasons. I also gave the top one, a shape to follow the ventilation's line.

PB300072.jpg

PB300074.jpg

PB300076.jpg

PB300077.jpg

PB300080.jpg

Aluminum parts arrived from the powdercoater with the color of choice : black semi matte.

PB300081.jpg

And I will leave you with some teaser shots!

Thanks for reading my worklog guys, till next time, peace!!

Still fantastic and then some brother, I know it´s by far nothing compared to the awesomeness of the rest of the project, but I´m in love with those power & reset buttons, as per usual, can´t wait till your next update : )

The quality of your work is phenomenal. I love all the hand crafted bits and pieces! I've been spoiled by NC. I need to go back to doing things by hand, back to my roots of modding.

Looking really great.

epic work as per usual.

Epic thanks from me! :)

I like the organic shape of this case.

Do you keep tabs on the amount of hours you have spent on it?

Glad you like my work bro! I usually do but because the hours are way to many I count in months!!! :p :)

Thanks bro!! Yeah I like these bits too!! ;)

Thank you my friend I really appreciate that!! CNC and laser are good too, the point is the creation of something unique. If I could do that particular mod in CNC and also cheap I would believe me. But some things are meant to be made by hand!! :)

Keep is coming brother!

I will! ;)

With this and that here we are guys at the final update of this year and of this mod!!! I wont say much as is nothing left to say but I will let you know that THIS was one of the most difficult builds I ever did after Totechnika! The pump refused to start so I had to dismantle it and fix it, the watercooling loop took me 11 hours to get it right due to tight space and the lack of the proper fittings even though Bitspower gave me more than enough to use, the cable management was a nightmare as I had to create and mod each and every cable so.... ok thats all!!!

First some random pictures of some of the soooooo many things I did these days. I wont show more pictures as I said before is pointless to show me holding a screwdriver and attaching a motherboard. One of the many custom cables and some steps of the final assembly.

I used 2 kind of sleeving in this mod. At the left side is the MDPC one and at the right is a sleeving a friend of mine has send to me from USA. The quality of this sleeving and its density is 10 times better than anything else I ve seen and used so far (sorry MDPC fans) but is quite difficult to work with so this is meant to be for pro modders with lots of experience and patience.

And a small teaser shot of the final build.....

PC080049.jpg

Here are some "artistic" kind of pictures with the sleeving my friend send me from USA. I took these pictures for him and I thought it will be nice to share them with you just to see that I can also take some "nice" shots with my cheap camera but I prefer to stay "true" and while I mod on my bed or kitchen table or in the backyard I will always take shots from there and as bad as it might look, this is were I mod. I have nothing against nice photography I really love it but for me its impossible as the kind of work I do cant be placed under black velvet sheet for some shots! ;)

After 7 months and a looooot of sanding, filing, forming etc etc, I am proud to say that I successfully finished one more mod and another journey! But what a journey will that be without all these awesome friends here, with all the support, the kind comments and help and off course the sponsors which helped me for one more time to bring in life my crazy and artistic ideas!!!!

Thanks guys!!!

And now the final shots of Project : Synthetica! I used various lighting positions with my very cheap equipment but I believe I managed to take some nice shots after all lolz :)
I also did some changes on the mod:

1) The paint on the ventilation holes is changed after some request I had in more soft granite looking color.
2) The Gpu stand was made again from scratch in a more professional way and now it works also as a clip cause you can position the Gpu and then turn the stand inside towards the card and it will hold in place but I also used 2 screws for maximum durability.
3)I used in every component that vibrates (sounds kinky lol ) antivibration rubber mounts and all that effort I can say it worked more than I could believe and the PC is barely audible even with all these holes!

Also I had difficulties capturing the night shots as the lighting was made in a way to be ambient, not strong and distracting as I wanted a smooth effect. I couldnt calculate if that lighting would have been easy to be captured by the camera so the shots was the best thing I could do. The effect of all these ventilation holes is phenomenal as the lighting spreads in every corner of the room creating shapes that look awesome. Unfortunately though after all these efforts it was impossible to take shots....

So now please enjoy the final shots of Project: Synthetica!!!

Awesome work :) I really like the end product. The only thing I might criticize is how the fiberglass piece meets and mounts to the base. It's not as elegant as the rest of the case. Overall, that is a very minor thing. Bravo!
