The problem:

I'm not mobile enough. I'm certainly a big fan of hiding in my cave for 8 or 10 hours chopping away, but it looks like I'll be doing a bit of travel, and lugging a desktop around isn't exactly ideal.

I've been toying with the idea of a mobile station for photochopping, as well as upgrading (finally) to cs3. But I'm not sure if a sacrifice in processing power is going to be compatible with cs3.

And also, there's the question of 2 gigs on xp vs 4 gigs on vista.

Any thoughts?

From TomsHardware CPU charts it seems that QuadCores don't really bring performance as much as raw speed. The memory depends much on the size of the project, high resolution needs much more memory. Also, text layers are a b*tch, need a lot of memory.

I'd recommend at least 2GB to run the shop but 4GB should be better. I don't think that Vista would bring any major performance problem.
