I seem to be having trouble loading the Hardocp main page and the forums. Sometimes i have to enable my ISP's webcache to get to the Hardocp main page then disable it to get to the forums or one of any combination of webcache on /off.

I first noticed it on my laptop, but have noticed it happening on my main rig. Is it my browser , my ISP or some other problem - Anti virus software?. It was working fine up until a couple of days ago.
One thing i have noticed, in the status bar when i have webcache disabled is a line with [CACHE BUSTER] mentioned. This doesn't come up when webcache is enabled.

I look at Hardocp a few times a day so it's a bit of a bind having to keep changing settings every time i visit.

Hope someone can offer some explanations.

Cheers

I have trouble loading the main hardocp page as well. Takes about 1-2 minutes to come up. It simply stops at the newegg commercial and just sits there.

No problems with the forums though.

I've noticed this the last 2 day. I keep getting "operation timed out" without using the same method you use.

it doesnty come up for me alot well over the last 3 days it hasnt not in firefox or IE it just syas that it doesnt exist or so on and so forth and i get sorwareded to the usual seach cracpola so im assuming maybe the server is going up and down like a rollercoaster maybe?

I don't know what the difference could be, I have had excellent load times lately.

Mine seem just fine...slightly sluggish maybe 2 days ago, but nothing for me to complain about...sorry bout your guys' troubles, though. :(

well i guess I'm gonna ask a simple question ...

For the one's not having this problem did you block any of the ads .. :p

I won't say if I did or not but everything is running fine ... Asus ads are annoying ...

:D

I'm not blocking anything and I haven't seen the Asus ad in several weeks.

Huh, didnt think about that....I havent seen it either....

I''ve also been having a lot of problems loading up anything under HardOCP for the past few days. This happens with both IE and Mozilla. The page is extemely slow to load, if it loads at all.

I just tried connecting with my Linux box using Firefox and everything is fine.

I don't understand.

Could you guys have a similar net service, or the same net service??? It seems to be just fine for me....?????? Wierd

MajorDomo said it had something to do with the ads also. Using a proxy is the only way to get in sometimes ><

I did some more testing. I have two ISP's so I was able to test with both (Sympatico and Rogers).

Under WinXP SP2 with both ISP's
Can not properly access HardOCP with:
IE
Firefox
Mozilla

Under Linux with both ISP's
Can properly access HardOCP with:
Firefox

I don't understand why the OS would make any difference. The only other difference is that the Linux box is hard wired to the router and the XP box is wireless.

One other note.

If I go to "file/edit page" under Mozilla the page that is not loading loads right away in the edit mode.

Hey, apstasyxxx-your name sounds like some kind of spyware toolbar file name from a porn site, or something! LOL, just thought I'd share my thoughts! :p

Hey guys.. don't know what the problem could be because nothing has changed on our in lately.. But if you don't mind, post your browser versions.. That may help when trying to find the needle in the hay stack...

I cant reproduce the error on my end!!!

FF V1.01
IE latest V.
MSN Latest V.
I'm runnin' just fine on all of 'em.

Hey, Cliff, my suspicion is it may have to do with how the ads are served. I know that some time ago they went from being served locally to being served via mediaplex or whatever. And I do recall running into some issues on my end when that happened initally.

On dialup,

In Firefox 1.02 Win32 everything works fine with default network settings, but if you bump up the max connections per server, Firefox will hang while trying to load the top right flash ad (bfgtech I think) . Sometimes that ad doesn't show up. (The iframe will be blank)

Now Opera 8 beta 3 win32, doesn't hang on loading the flash, but a lot of times the iframe will just come up blank. Sometimes some of the other iframes will come up blank too. Reducing the max connections per server from 8 to 4 seems to fix the problems. An Opera dev once said something about setting the max connections per server to 4 to avoid connections timing out.

Looks like the page makes the browser connect to too many sites at once and the iframes and flash start timing out and the browser doesn't give up trying to load the iframe/swf file.

Also, for comparison:

With the ads it takes 50 - 70 seconds (uncached) to load depending on whether the one iframe actually loads or not.

Without the ads, the page loads (uncached) in 18 seconds.

Having a page load an iframe that loads another iframe that loads a flash ad could be creating too many connections.

For testing, you could make a copy of the main page and load all the ads directly in the table instead of via iframes. Then everyone can post if that helps or not.

I just noticed that the Asus ads are back today.....and I have no problems with loading times.

Shut down my antivirus software's realtime protection and all of a sudden the pages load fine.

For the record I'm using Avast Antivirus.

Same here concerning Avast.... I really hate doing anything online without my virus protection........

Using Avast here as well, disabled it and it loads no problem! Had a problem loading the web management page for my Netgear router, have to disable Avast each time I want to change the configuration.
Avast looks like it could be the problem.

This is the only problem I've had with Avast....... BTW, my Asante Netfriendly F1004 has no problems with it...... Wonder why [H] does??????

Avast here as well. It must be it. But I'll do hell and disable the virusscanner to load the [H] frontpage. Maybe you guys should contact avast and find out what's the scoop?
