8/2-8/5 - Summer Olympics Challenge
Riesel Sieve
Team Page - [H]ard|OCP

This is part 5 of 9 challenges. It is CPU only. Our team is currently in 12th place for the series.

Current team standings are:

25 - RFGuy_KCCO
107 - pututu
156 - HighTech67
157 - Coleslaw
242 - brilong
352 - tjmagneto
356 - travanx

Tips:
Intel boxes tend to perform better. The HT probably doesn't need turned off since these are sieve work units.
Intel chips tend to out perform AMD chips
PrimeGrid work will stress hardware harder and so is more sensitive to overclocking. Therefore make sure you have tested their work units on your rigs before the challenge to make sure they are stable.
These challenges only count work units downloaded during and completed before end of the challenge. So, no bunkering.

Nice, this will allow me to pick up my Ruby badge for Riesel Sieve.

I've already got a Bronze badge, so hopefully will turn this to Silver during this challenge. Did a quick test on 2600K since the WUs have a short run time (~29.4 mins per WU with 8 threads running). With 8 threads instead of 4 threads will yield about 26% higher points.

pututu, are you running at stock clocks? Figured I would ask as others may be interested for comparing results. I plan on adding a few numbers as I come up with some. Got to re-install my 2p Intel rig, so not sure when/what I will be bringing with me.

The 2600K is running at 4.2 GHz, per the sig below. Is the run time reasonable?

AMD 6274 base clock - 1.95 Hours
Genuine Intel(R) CPU T1400 @ 1.73GHz - 1.5 Hours
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3430 @ 2.40GHz - .78 hours
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz - .68 hours

E5-2695v2 at 2.94 GHz ~ 39.7 mins (24 threads) and 25.3 mins (12 threads)
With all threads running, total output is 27% higher than 12 threads.

I added a few more CPU's to my list above. We are now ~7 days away.

I'm ready. Have to stop WCG and POEM for max throughput per rig. Anyone else joining beside the usual folks...

All of my rigs are crunching TRP (Sieve) tasks now. These are my average times, so far:

4770K's (6 WU's): ~25 min.
4790K's (6 WU's): ~24 min.
4670K (4 WU's): ~20 min.

*mutters* You guys sure do love making my life difficult, don't you? :p Just switched over all my boxes to WCG yesterday... now changing them again to PG. Oi.

Looks like the team is starting off in 11th place. I will be hit and miss until next week on keeping up with things. I will have a few rigs helping out but I cannot be all in on this one.

fastgeek, glad that you can join. I thought "fast" (as in switching projects) is what you are :smug: Anyway, this is a very short three days sprint (as in BOINC Pentathlon, remember?). I also stopped WCG for this.

After 8 hours, we are at 9th place. Here are the team members position.

Rank Name Score
10 fastgeek 214574
31 RFGuy_KCCO 68481
65 pututu 36403
125 HighTech67 14898
295 Coleslaw 481

At least I'm quickly racking up a few badges. Started with Silver at ~145k around 1800 PST yesterday. Hit Gold
sr2sieve_trp_gold.png
sometime after that and reached Amethyst
sr2sieve_trp_amethyst.png
a few minutes ago. :)

Haven't checked every computer yet; but did spin up PG on the following systems today:

3x 2P E5-2640 v3
4P E5-4640 v2
4P E7-8867 v3 (aka Thing02; still refusing to do more than ~88% CPU load most the time)
(04AUG @ 0032... just checked on T2 and it's at 100%. Not sure if it's Windows or BOINC that doesn't like keeping all 128 cores busy; more than enough work units waiting in the wings.)
Hopefully that'll help our team efforts a bit! :D

After 1 day 17hrs, we overtook EVGA and we are now at 5th place.

fastgeek, you were mentioned in EVGA forum.(y) Maybe if you have time, show us a picture of Thing02. We are all salivating at your massive hardware.

Yeah we all saw him coming, he mowed me over real fast!! Nice list of hardware for sure. Good job!

Out of curiosity, is there a tracking page just for this event? Maybe I'm missing it.

Thing02 doesn't look like anything special; just a 4U Dell R930. The processors and 1TB of RAM are what make it special. :p The rest are just a mix of Dell R820s and Intel 2U servers. I actually have more hardware sitting around that's not online (nor has been). Couple more R820s, etc. Unfortunately I think this event ends pretty soon (1600 PST maybe?) so these boxes wouldn't be able to contribute much by then.

Awesome! Thanks, Bill. :)

Oh, and I see there's still 1 day to go. I'll try to bring a few more boxes on line if possible.

While I wait for the EVGA forum server to send the password reset details... here's what I have going right now. There's more hardware that I could bring online but, you know, that thing called work. :) Since this morning two 4P 4640 and two 2P 2680 systems were brought online.
X5680 x2
E5-2640 v3 x12
E5-2680 v4 x6
E5-4620 v1 x4
E5-4640 v1 x16
E5-4640 v2 x4
E5-4650 v1 x4
E7-8867 v3 x4

Know this isn't the badge thread, but added ~2,455,000 points in the last 15 hours with 865k still pending. (Currently at 3,464,654 points)

fastgeek, Holy s***. You are now number one! Not easy to dethrone the zunewantan and Scott Brown.

Well... had first place for a few hours. Zune just leapfrogged me big time. Am suspecting he (?) is likely an IT guy or something similar, and is able to bring on a ton of systems during certain hours. Just finished spinning up another 4P 4640v2 and a two 2P 2670's as well. I have another 2P 2680v4 that's not doing anything, but don't think I have time to deal with it.

Zune jumped over 500k in one shot. Maybe it's just a big dump; but will be interesting to see how things stand at the end. :)

And I've done all I really can tonight. Just added two 2P 2620v1 and one 2p 2620v4 systems. Such as it is I might be late getting to a movie with my family... so lets hope it works out. :p

I do seem to be catching up with him though! :D :D

Bunkering perhaps to see if there is any threat from someone like you.:sneaky: Like I said it is not easy to dethrone Zune. This is going to be an interesting clash of the titans. Less than 18 hours to the finishing line.
BTW, Zune hardware can be found here. Yours here, if that's ok with you to post it in this forum.

We finished at 5th place. All thanks to fastgeek. Finally we have someone to dethrone Zune. Can fastgeek defend his throne in the next month Summer paralympics challenge? We will find out next month.

Individual standings:
Rank Name Score
1 fastgeek 8,213,748
27 RFGuy_KCCO 910,076
62 pututu 487,656
161 HighTech67 150,057
372 Coleslaw 11,654

Some obvious observations:
1. We are low on the number of participants relative to other groups. EVGA has 13 members, while we only have 5.

2. The first team CNT has the highest number of participants and they took the top spot.

3. If you take out fastgeek contributions, the team will finish at 16th place. Hopefully we will see more [H] members joining the next summer paralympics challenge.

We'll just have to see what's going on in September. I should have access to most of these systems still... but never know. Thing02 might be gone; but should have a 4P Broadwell to hopefully help make up for it.

Im still out of town for a few days and only have cellular internet. Great job guys. Thanks fastgeek for stepping up with those rigs. Thanks pututu for the updates. Thanks to the rest of you for just being awesome.
