rumor has it the 480 will rival the 290 in pure power and slaughter it in temps/efficiency. My reference 290x is lonely and I was wondering what people this the GPU's price will come down to? Or just temped on buying 2x480's for 400 bucks.

just get 480.

2 480 probably use same power as 1 overclocked 290x and will be twice as fast.

290 and 290X will definately be under $200. I predict $140 for 290 and $160 for 290X

I'd either sell the 290x right now and then upgrade later or buy a 290x after the 480 comes out. Maximize your value, but I'd prefer the RX 480 route because reference 290x in Crossfire are very hot and loud.

hmmm..

In all honesty, the 290x is about 13-15% slower than the 390X.
The performance of the 480 is unknown, but will be less than the 390X (based on released hardware specs).

If performance of the 480 < 290X by 10-15%, then 290x used prices may be ~$160-180
If performance of the 480 > 290X by a little, then used prices should drop below $150

If I had a choice between a 290x for $150 and a 480 for $199, assuming the 480 is just as fast or faster than the 290x, I would go with the newer architecture 100% of the time. The 480 has H.265 hardware encoding and decoding just for starters.

I only gave $265 for my 290x new (Tri X New Edition) and it will be hard for the 480 to slaughter it in temps as it ides at 38c and VRM 1 and 2 41c .. games at 60c with 100% clocks (1020/1350) so I plan to keep it , but I will buy CX 480.

I got the launch version at 1040/1300 idles little higher 43C gpu 37C VRM. And in a way getting 2 RX 480 prolly has the same power usage as single R9 290X. I'm defiantly waiting for Vega ;)
