On newegg seeing:

7950's for 299 no rebate

7870's 239 no rebate (actually HIS model for $222+$7 shipping right now with 7% off code, so 229 out the door)

Saw some Saphire 7850's with bigass fans for 189 no rebate a couple days ago. Dunno if that was pricing mistake. It's now 209 for 7850's, some 189 after rebate.

Anyways great stuff. Prices should fall even more over time and more rebates should come too.

These are really good values! Considering the 7950 is the same price as a 660Ti, you are getting alot more for your money with AMD. $239 for a 7870 is an absolute steal!

the drivers are better for nvidia

i think if your running multi monitors definately go with amd

Obvious flamebait aside, these price cuts are awesome. I purchased a 7870 about a month ago.. oh well. I really wanted the upgrade.

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they're posting flamebait.

Such an opinionated statement as the one said around here is certainly going to be considered flamebait and probably didn't need to be in this thread. This thread is to discuss the deal at hand, there are other forums/sub-forums for <insert brand> has better drivers comments.

Glad to see some stuff dropping in price. Got some aging video cards that need the old heave-ho.

$289.99 after $20 rebate on the XFX 7950 is pretty HOT!

An opinion that even Kyle shares.

i came from 2 6970's to a single 680 gtx

nvidia drivers alot better than AMD at the moment.

Fuel for the fire: My 6950 had not a single driver crash, random restart, BSOD (video related or at all for that matter) in a year.

My other machine with a GT430 not even a week ago had graphics corruption, two driver resets and a random machine reset.

Take away from it what you will.

And now........., back to our discussion regarding the price cuts on the AMD lineup. (Let's keep the flame wars for the videocard forum)

Nice price drops. I think I was excited enough to upgrade when they were released that I would have purchased a 7950 at $299. Now I'm not excited so I'm keeping my 6950. I'll wait for the 8950. I may purchase it if it's $299, but if it's $399, no way.

^ I agree with J Macker. I typically only upgrade if it's at least 3 tiers or more, and to jump from my 6950, would require a 7970 or greater. I am not ready to throw down $400 or more on a GPU. So, I will wait.

Still, great deals for those looking to upgrade! 7870 w/performance of the 660Ti for at least $60 less. Wow! The 7950 is very close to the 670 for around $100 less. Incredible!

Honestly, if I find a 7870 for $189 with Sleeping Dogs come next week, my wallet will be a good bit lighter.

I'm waiting for the XFX DD 7850 to drop to ~$200 so I can complete my crossfire setup. Although the near 50% overclock I've managed to get out of it so far is holding me over pretty well :D

so if I have 1680x1050 eyefinity and a 6870 2GB card, would a 3GB 7950 significantly improve gameplay?

I like the serious sams, dirt3, lego batman, etc.

things like adaptive v-sync are nice things to have. i'm not saying amd is bad i'm just saying right now nvidia seems to have better drivers for their 600 series cards

I'll just say real quick that I never agreed nor disagreed with him. What he said had nothing to do with the topic at hand (AMD price cut), it was flamebait.

I agree V-sync is nice. I have yet to figure out the happy medium on when to enable and when to disable it. Apparently it causes mouse lag issues in some games when it's on, and not in others.

Not sure about the games you mentioned, but I have the same setup as you (with a 7850) and I can run BF3 well on medium... so I think a 7950 would be a significant improvement for you.

1680x1050 eyefinity is 5.3 MP, and is 30% more pixels than a single 2560x1600 (4.1MP).

I found it somewhat taxing for a single 6950 on high details. I can imagine that a 6870 is straining and would not be playable with high details in demading games. It really all depends on what level of graphics details you're willing to settle for in some games.

You may have to turn down a few details in Dirt3, but you can probably still max out details on lego batman.

A 7950 should be a very noticeable upgrade from a 6870 for your eyefinity setup.
There's no benchmarks at 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 in the anand bench for those two cards, but I'd expect at least a 50% increase in performance, perhaps as much as double the fps.

So then I guess the next question is -- should I search for another 6870 2GB or just buy a single 7950....

if you have multi-monitor setup get a 7950 if you have single monitor get a 660ti
thats all i'm trying to say and that i perfer the nvidia 600 series drivers over amd's

i haven't tried amd's latest drivers maybe they have gotten better but i think nvidia has alot of nice features built in

If you can handle the cost difference, single card solutions are the best way to go. You could go Crossfire, and spend less than $150, or sell your 6870 and bite the bullet and get a 7950. Remember if you go Crossfire, to consider your PSU and cooling situation.

jeez 123Lanoix...

DO YOU THINK YOU'VE SAID IT ENOUGH TIMES?

I don't think so!

SAY IT AGAIN SO EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU PREFER NVIDIA DRIVERS.

oh, what's that? You admit you haven't tried AMD's latest drivers?
So you prefer nVidia drivers even though you haven't tried AMD drivers and had problems?

GO AWAY TROLL

660Ti is for fanboys who claim they prefer nVidia Drivers. Everybody else knows the $299 7950 overclocked smacks the shit out of a $299 660Ti overclocked.

That is a ridiculous statement. The 7950 chews up the 660Ti in both single and multi monitor solutions. And, they are the same cost. Gee... which one am I gonna choose?? Get real, troll.

PSU is a CORSAIR 750 TX iirc...
CPU is a phenom x6 (not oclocked)...

With that processor, you will be close, if not bottlenecking on the 7950. Overclocking might help some. To be honest, you would be better to upgrade your mobo/CPU first, then consider your GPU needs. Otherwise, I would just stick with what you have.

both cards don't even cost the same?

one is like $50 more than the other has 3gb of frame buffer?

iam not a fan boy of either company i buy whichever product is better

your benchmarks are for a really high resolution which the 7950 performs alot better
this where you would want a 7950 over the 660ti
the 660ti is for people that do not want to spend more than $300 and game on a single 1080p monitor.

WTF are you smoking? Did you read the first post?

AMD price cut 7950 to $299.

Here, let me link one for you since you're incapable of finding a $299 7950:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161407

FREE SHIPPING. 3GB.
many other cards after rebate are $299. most likely all will be $299 without rebates in a few days.

Seems like the same cost to me. Oh wait, a 3GB 660Ti is $339. That's right. More money for less performance.

Uhhh... where have you been?? Have you read ANY of this thread??? The MSRP on the 7950's are now $299!!! Do your homework before you come arguing your troll filled nonsense on here.

Here is a link to current Newegg 7950 prices, since you seem to damn lazy to figure it out for yourself: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6767 600286739&IsNodeId=1&name=Radeon HD 7950

Now, as J Macker said, "GO AWAY, TROLL"!

Are you even reading the posts in this thread?

I was answering a question for somebody who has an EYEFINITY setup with THREE 1680x1050 LCDs.
here's the math:
3*1680x1050= 5.29 MP
2560x1600= 4.096MP
1920x1080= 2.55 MP

HENCE the 7950 would be the better card for the high resolutions. 660Ti would suck nuts for his eyefinity setup at over DOUBLE the resolution of 1920x1080. I don't know why anybody would buy a $300 card for a single 1920x1080. All you need is a $200 card to max details at 1920x1080. Maybe spend your $300 more wisely and buy a 27" Korean LCD with 2560x1440 resolution.

Step away from the keyboard dude. Man up and walk away.

I think the point he's trying to make is that the 7950 is the same price as the 660ti. The HIS right now is $299 for the 7950.

lol iam not trolling

is this boost clocked version of the 7950 or the vanilla ?

shit didn't realize they drop the price my bad lol

i keep thinking its $350

totally bought a 7950 like a week and a half ago

maybe its time to go back to xfire :D

edit: not yet, need to wait for the next rebate period on the MSI TF....one rebate per household

shit didn't realize they drop the price my bad lol

This thread is about the freaking price drops of AMD... how the hell did you miss that?

Did you just see "AMD" and decide to come in here and threadcrap?
