I have a presario F572US with a 1.8ghz TK-53 cpu in it. What I can't seem to figure out is what socket this CPU is, and to what limits can the mobo support. Are there any more battery friendly options? What about performance based options?

Basically I'd like to know how far I can take it.

I figure I'm stuck with the Geforce Go 6100 video

Google, download, unzip and run CPU-Z to find out more about which socket your laptop has.

Ok, but would it adress the question of upgrade limitations in the sense that it'll run any future cpu based on that socket?

I'm assuming that empty post was suppose to be a bump? That was a bit premature. Should've waited a few more hours to do so.

As for upgrade limitations, no idea. I recommend going to the Compaq's/HP's site, look up the family or model that your laptop belongs to and find out what was the fastest CPU that was made available in that particular model/family line.

FYI, it looks like you have a 1.7Ghz TK-53 because there is no 1.8Ghz TK-53. At least from what I can see from this wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors

For a bit more battery life, albeit at the expense of performance, a sempron might do:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...2_.28Socket_S1.2C_F2.2C_90_nm.2C_Low_power.29

But then again, despite the lower TDP, since the Sempron doesn't have any downclocking features like the TK-53 has, you may end getting the same battery life.

Sorry, that wasn't supposed to be a bump. I guess that uploader isn't [H] friendly.

My bad on the cpu, I generally have it plugged in most of the time, so battery life isn't that big of a concern. Just wondering if I'd be able to slap in a 2.2ghz (when available in S1 socket) and run just fine.

I wonder if the GFgo 6100 is upgradeable as well.....

As long as it's the same socket it should work. But you might have to have a BIOS update. As for teh GeForce 6100, the chip is probably soldered onto the motherboard and therefore wouldn't be upgradeable.

Updating laptop bios....now this should be interesting

/edit: Looks like I should be able to fit a TL-62 (maybe a 66) in this thing. Now if I could just find a place to buy one. Google isn't being much help (amazing as that is)
/edit:2 Found some on ebay....would rather go through something a little more reputable...but oh well

What would be interesting about it? It's the same as updating the BIOS on a desktop. I've owned several laptops in the past and updated all of their BIOS' to fix compatibility problems. My newest laptop even has a couple of BIOS revisions to fix problems. Luckily it was already up to date when I bought it.

Seems mine is too. There are 2 updates posted, but they don't fix anything that's relevant to me, so I'm good.
