Predator X34 Owner's Club & Discussion.

Just received my monitor, as a replacement for my old Dell U2311.

I think my panel has major issues, but to make sure this isn't normal behavior (it's been years since I bought a new monitor), I'd like your opinion here.
I'm experiencing narrow, vertical lines on my screen, depending on what color it displays. White and pure black have no issues most of the time, while blue, yellow, gray and other colors show them all the time.

I made some pictures in Windows:

I even have it when the screens shows its boot logo or during Windows boot:

I also took this test picture for color banding:

(only the tiny vertical lines are unwanted, the curved lines are due to the picture quality)

I don't think this is standard behavior, right? Should I return the monitor or is there anything I can try to fix it?

I tried G-Sync both on and off, using a DP cable (@60Hz) and a HDMI cable (@50Hz). Same results.

I waited so long for this monitor, but I'd be very disappointed if this are normal findings!

Thanks!

Greetings all... OP here.
I have had zero issues with my Monitor. I run my OS and games at 90hz.

The only Issue I actually have, is occasionally upon waking my system, my icons on my desktop are all relocated, to fit what seems a smaller monitor. Like the resolution changes when I wake my system..

That happens on my Samsung 34". I think it's a Windows 10 thing.

I absolutely love to have this monitor. Wondering if the wife would notice is I swapped my current with this thing. :). Maybe when Pascal launches.

X34 Owner reporting in.

Pre-ordered it the very first day it was originally available on Newegg.com

Very happy with the monitor.

Minor Issues:
BLB or IPS glow, whatever you want to call it, in top right and bottom right corner is noticeable on a black screen (but generally not seen in gaming, which is the sole reason to buy an X34 in the first place). It was about the same as my previous LG 34" curved which uses the exact same panel as the X34 so I guess its pretty normal for an IPS panel of this width

I have the same wake from sleep bug where I get a black "spray paint" effect on the screen that many others have. However, I dont use sleep (have it disabled) anyway so I personally dont care about this

Gaming at 100 FPS with 2 x Titan Xs in SLI has been really nice compared to my previous 60 hz IPS panel

Edit:

To the guys have the rearranged icon problems there IS a fix for this. I was having the same icon rearrangement issues as you guys. Windows Fences totally solves this problem:

No way that's normal. Looks like a faulty panel if I had to guess.

Yeah, I returned it to the store today and after checking it (twice! - they wouldn't believe it at first) they ordereda new one. The Benelux distributor has nothing left in stock so this could take a while... :-(

BTW the store I ordered from was Alternate.be. Pretty good service though.

Ya if the screen is driven properly, the scan lines are basically a zero issue. ;)

I just bit. $1400, fuuuuuuu.

Thanks a lot! It's all your fault!

Well I got one too, I'm really worried about the Scanline issues thou. I have 3 980 gtxs, didn't want to buy Ti's with Pascal less then a year away.

Can you guys enlighten me about this so called Scan Lines?

I can't.

I'm getting pretty high frame rates while gaming (2 X Titan X SLI) and I refuse to run the g-sync pendulum demo with a locked in low refresh rate (which is where most people are seeing these so called scan lines).

I think if you are getting decent frame rates while gaming, it's never an issue

So basically as long as you're running powerful cards in sli or xfire you're a ok :d

I ordered another one last night from newegg. If it has scan lines I will be returning it for the 2nd time. There are people reporting no scan lines at any framerate. I refuse to pay $1300 for a defective monitor and when it comes time to sell it the last thing I want to do is put in a disclaimer stating the monitor has scanlines, I would imagine there wouldn't be too many buyers for that.

If you don't see them, then don't worry about it. They are very faint grayish horizontal lines. They are most often seen on a gray backgrounds when running Gsync at low framerates (60 or below). It is one of those "have to look for it" kind of problems. Some screens appear to have it more than others. I will say I have never noticed it on mine even at lower framerates. If you have the display and haven't noticed it, don't go looking for it. I have the same philosophy with backlight bleed. People go to great lengths to find everything wrong with BLB in the worst conditions possible, instead of just using the monitor normally and seeing if BLB is noticeable under normal use cases. Once you see it though, it is much easier to notice it under all conditions and it just ruins what would have been a perfectly fine monitor.

I cant say if this is the case for all X34s.

All I can say is my X34 doesn't exhibit any distracting lines (or excessive BLB / IPS glow) while gaming and/or regular windows desktop use.

But, I have to point out, that I'm driving it with 2 x Titan Xs (moderately overclocked +220 hz under custom water) so gaming frame rates are pretty high.

The people who seem to notice the scan line thing the most are the people who run the g-sync demo and lock it (I guess you can specify the frame rate) at lower frame rates.

I will admit I have NEVER run the g-sync pendulum demo and I dont WANT to because Im afraid if I see these "scan lines" in it, then I might start to "see" them (real or not real) in games or desktop use.

My X34 DOES have the wake from sleep issue where the screen looks like someone hit it with a can of black spray paint BUT I dont enable "turn off display" in Windows 10 anyway (just did it for testing purposes) so for me this is moot.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on the X34 been waiting for months now it seems but with us being close to the Asus variant coming supposedly in jan I feel like I should just wait it out to see if that's a better piece of hardware QC wise and if anything maybe they each come down in price a bit. I just think waiting for the asus review at this point is wise. Back in Oct when this was supposed to be readily available not so much but now? Ehh I'll wait. 1300 bucks is a ton of money for a gaming panel to not be perfect.

Same boat here and hoping ASUS will up the refresh rates too to at least 120 OC. but then again, I'm gonna need at least a Titan X to drive that resolution. It's a chain reaction.

I agree it may be wise to wait for the Asus. I don't expect much better QC based on how the 279Q turned out though. I mainly took the jump now as I have a lot of free time for gaming this month. If anything is wrong, Amazon and Newegg at least have extended returns till the end of Jan and the Asus should be out by then.

Good Idea ,lol.

Reading all these horror stories makes me wonder if I won the "panel lottery."

I don't have that wake from sleep issue. No scan line issues. No dead pixels or backlight bleed. OCs to 100hz without any issues whatsoever. My only gripe is that some games have some issues with the 21:9 resolution.

Was hesitant to buy but I'm glad I picked this particular one. Would hate to have bought a dud.

I don't mind the 100Hz OC I can drive enough fps to the display with system to make it worth it. The problem is this display is big wood and if I'm gonna spend that type of money I want it to be perfect out of the box. Ie: no scan line bullshit, no dead pixels, no wake from sleep issue and no other weird shit.

As far as gpu power I'm really not worried since my 3 980's rock everything with high fps maxed out and I plan to get 2 pascal's out the gate when they launch to replace these 3 cards.

The more I think about it the more I realize for some reason I just have a hard time swallowing the price of this monitor. For some reason I can swallow 500-600 per video card. I can handle an SSD being 600 when I built the rig last year but yet 1300 pisses me off for a monitor lol. I guess I have a percieved value in my head as to what I feel this should cost and 1300 is NOT it heh. I guess to me it should be priced somewhere in the 800 ish range. Doesn't matter what I think obviously since the market will determine where it's priced but thats my feeling.

I'd think that a monitor would last you quite some time, unlike GPUs. So use that when considering the massive price. I also don't think these will take the massive price hit that GPUs do in a couple years. So you'd be able to sell in a couple years and not lose a ton of money.

Just my opinion, anyone feel free to correct me.

Oh I get how ya feel. I'm the same way with buying running shoes, it kills me spending money on them even if it's like 80, but for whatever reason I have no problem dropping 100's on PC parts, or dropping lots at a casino.

Another thing is, you can always keep returning if the product is faulty.

Anyone play FPS on this as of yet? I'm hoping I can still play CS:GO on this as good as I can on my 120Hz PLS 1440p Korean monitor.

I play Bf4 religously and it is just as good as my previous Asus Swift.
