Potential RTX 3000 buyers...what monitors will you be driving?

GIGABYTE G27QC

Just put together my first desktop build in several years.

That montior with a 3700x setup and a 3070 when it becomes available.

Very excited.

I went from 1080p 60 to 1080p 144hz to 1440p 144hz within 1 year of experiencing high refresh rate. Once you go 144hz + you wont ever go back. I can wait for 4K120 . That’ll probably be 2 more generations of videocards of waiting for me. I’d like to max out 1440p 144hz before I move on to higher pixel density display.

I will be driving 3 4k screens for my flight sim rig I recently built, hoping I can get an order in for a 3090 once they are available.

Mine fits on my desk just fine..

That case glare aye caramba

I bought the LG 38GL950G-B 38 Inch UltraGear Nano IPS 1ms Curved Gaming Monitor with 144HZ Refresh Rate and NVIDIA G-SYNC, Black in anticipation of getting a 3080 (hopefully Ti) from EVGA with an AIO. The monitor is a remarkable upgrade from what I had been using, whilst being ridiculously over priced.. but hey.. gaming! The monitor seems a bit buggy to me, but I'm new with it so maybe some user error going on. I debated going 4k, but I like having way more frames than are really necessary, and I'm addicted to 21:9.

I used to LOVE 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 before 16:10 went the way of the dinosaurs. 16:10, we knew thye well. vertical real estate is too neglected.

Prolly gonna keep my 144hz 1440p on the desktop and drop a 48cx next to it for 4k action depending on how the 3080 is when i get my hands on it.

55" LG OLED C9 for 4K, 120FPS, HDR, 4:4:4, 10~12 bit, G-Sync goodness. Getting 1 or 2 RTX 3090's after benchmarks comes out to see if I need to splurge for a 2nd GPU or not.

I went through that same cycle of monitor upgrades, but being old, I have to say that getting my first 21" CRT was crazy fun. I have a pile of monitors in my garage that I need to clean-up and donate to charity. I have one spare GPU in the event of an emergency. The rest of them were donated to my less fortunate gaming friends. One of them is going to get gifted soon..

3090 mated to a pair of 1440p 144hz display. I know it’s overkill but that just means I won’t need an upgrade for a long while. Once I get a new desk I may buy a 1440p ultra wide for my primary flanked by my two existing displays. Should make for a good FS2020 setup.

Dell is putting 16:10 back in the new XPS laptops, and the 38" 21:10 panels have the same 'height' ratio, more or less, with 1600 verticle pixels.

I'm still flipping a coin on one of those 38" IPS panels versus the 48" LG OLED.

At the moment, a Veiwsonic 27" 2560x1440 144Hz Gsync display. I love me some high FPS and my 1080Ti just can't push everything up there. It usually can hold 60ish+, but I'd really like it to be pushing everything well above 100. I'm just addicted to high framerates.

If it ends up being as powerful as I hope/they claim then I have my eye on an ultrawide.

My ancient Dell U3011 still looks good at 2560x1600 60Hz.

Maybe next year will get something with higher refresh rate, but for now I have an excuse for sucking in Overwatch :)

Just bought the LG CX 48. I wanted to like the LG 38” 144 Hz ultrawides because of the more reasonable size for a desk top but couldn’t get over the massive picture quality upgrade at the same price point.

Using 2x Dell 32in s3220dgf Curved 1440p 165hz. I got a Watercooled 2080 Ti now so waiting for reviews before knowing if i am going to get a 3080 or 3090. Leaning more towards a 3090 and keeping my 2080 Ti as backup.

Yeah the state of affairs with PC monitors right now is terrible.

High priced LCDs with slow response times and poor IQ just look ridiculous next to the reasonably priced 120Hz VRR OLED TVs available now.

Your water cooled card is 10%-15% already over a 2080Ti FE, If the 3080 is 25% faster than a 2080Ti FE it won't be that much faster than what you already have. 3090 seems more of a real upgrade in my opinion. Of course you will probably water cool your 3080 but don't see that much of a big improvement.

I'm planning on getting a 3080 and at the moment I'm only using a 60 hz 1440p monitor. The 3080 will pretty much be bananas overkill for most games on that setup but I want the headroom there so I can really crank the settings including ray tracing in the games that offer it. Plus I can use DSR or in-game resolution scaling to effectively run higher resolutions and give the 3080 a workout.

The 3070 just doesn't make sense for me because for $200 more the 3080 is offering so much more performance. I mean for 40% more money you're getting almost 50% more cores, tmus, and rops. And you're getting 70% more bandwidth and an extra 2 gigs of vram. The 3070 really should be priced at $450 instead of $500 when you look at what the 3080 gives you for $700.

either the new LG 27" 4k 1ms monster or the LG 32" 5ms 4k screen

Picking up a 3090 so either the LG CX48 or any other good HDMI 2.1 display in the 43-48” size range.

3080 for 60hz is real dumb, sorry

Yeah I'm sure you're real sorry about that.

Maybe actually read a little bit closer as I'll easily be able to push the 3080 in demanding games at the settings I will be using.

well yeah, you'll be getting 60 more frames you won't even be able to see - You'd be totally fine on a 2070 super @ 1080p if you're happy with 60hz, even with everything cranked up - On modern titles

Take a look at this, even a 1080ti doesn't dip below 60, ON ANY GAME @ 1080p..

Again you need to read a little closer. I am at 1440p not 1080p. And again I'll be using DSR or resolution scaling within a game to actually run at a much higher resolution than that.

Until 34-43 inch 4k IPS 144hertz+ gsync monitors come out, I ain't doin shit. I have a LG 27GL850-B 27 inch that plays games just fine and it looks really good. I just spent 500$ on it.

I really like 34 inch plus displays. Unfortunately nothing is out there right now for 4k and high refresh rate. So I'll use this for a year and see what comes out. Today, there is nothing compelling to get. Other than waiting outside Microcenter on the 17th. Hope I snag a 3080. We'll see.

There is LG 38GL950G-B. 38” 4k IPS Gsync 144hz and oc to 175.

This is what I was thinking as well after seeing all the benchmarks and the numbers. I am just not sure about the 3090 now knowing it is only 10% to 20% over a 3080 for over double the cost. I just bought a new Display which is a LG OLED48CXPUB. Its a 48in OLED 4K TV. Reviews show it to be really good but I want HDMI 2.1 which we all know the 2080 Ti does not have. I am going try all the work a rounds and see if i can get it to work, but that is what may force me to move to a 3080. TV will be here in a few days so time will tell. I am ok with waiting a few months for stock to start to show up if i need too.

Well the 3080 at 4K is more like 35% faster and less at lower resolutions, The main problem I have is the 10gb vram. I mapped out memory footprint of Crysis Remastered, it has 8k textures, something which will be more and more used over time. Long draw distances with extremely dense vegetation and so on which will be used more and more like Flight Simulator 2020. Software RT which also needs more memory to work, something that Nvidia says takes 1gb-2gb more with their Hardware RT is used. Anyways here is at 4K what this one game takes with the five presets, I worked from the highest quality reset to the lowest, the game reduced the vram usage as the quality present was lowered from one to the next. it did not have any indication of loading up the vram if available as I lowered each present vram went down and stayed relatively consistent Level 2 here. Other levels I would assume would fluctuate some but should be in the ball park.
  1. Can It Run Crysis - 13 gb (RT is set at its highest level with this preset) =>Unless you have a 16gb+ card this will be off the table, when you run out of memory on this game it is a slugfest like going 50fps then less than 10fps. With sufficient vram it is extremely consistent in frame rates
  2. Very High - 11.2gb (RT - VH)=> Once again very consistent on the memory footprint during a level. I would say as a minimum of 12gb card unless using 1440p with a 11gb card or DLSS at 4K
  3. High - 6.7gb (RT H)=> Need a 8gb or better card for 4k
  4. Medium - 4.8gb (this turns off RT as a note) - 6gb card or better
  5. Low - 4.4gb (RT off) - 6gb card or better
Anyways you mentioned you have a 48" LG CX OLED monitor which is 120hz VRR 4K HD- A 20gb 3080 or the 3090 would be my recommendation, maybe a Radeon 6900XT (whatever the highest end RNDA2 card is) if it has 16gb+ of memory and performs around a 3080 or better.

For me, just one. But it's a really good one. The Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q-P 27" monitor. Got it on sale earlier this summer from Newegg and they didn't mistake the monitor in the order for say...a motherboard. Out!

I bought a new Dell S2721DGF 165hz Freesync Premium-G Sync which is just awesome, the GPU, well I have no idea hopefully I'll get one by Christmas.

Alienware Ultrawide 120hz 34" IPS. This card is super overkill for 1080P. I won't switch back from ultrawide now that I've experienced it personally. It offers the most immersive visual experience.

If you're driving a 1080p monitor just grab a used 2080TI for $500 that's probably the best deal now or wait for a 3070. Although who knows how much stock will be available on initial offering because of the damn bots!!

I have a 43" LG 4K 60hz and a Rift headset. I am looking at upgrading both at some point to get higher refresh and some variant of VRR

I think the Rtx 3070 will be the way to go once that comes out for the lower rez monitors.

Im still gonna use my aging 4k60hz IPS Dell - P2715Q. I've never had any problems with it.
