Hi all,

I was just wondering since this is my first Quad, as well as SLI build for myself, does this system setup look okay to you?

Although after the review of the 9800GX2, I'm pretty certain I'll ditch the 3870x2, and the Gigabyte board and go for these few changes:-

what resolution do you play at? lower than 1920x1200 sli/crossfire not recommended.

will you be overclocking? i assume that you are because you have a cpu cooler. ill recommend getting the zerotherm nirvana nv120 or thermalright 120 extreme w/ scythe s-flex fan for overclocking on air.

and if you overclock, you will need nothing higher then 800mhz of ram.

if you go sli/crossfire then get the 750tx unless you sli 9800gx2. if you go single card a corsair 650tx, corsair 620hx should be sufficient and in some cases the corsair 550vx will do as well.

and also avoid ddr3 motherboards. by time ddr3 is worth buying, nehalem will be out and youll need another motherboard for that.
 
At the moment I'm using an old 17" Hercules Pro 920 set at 1152x768, I have been looking at HDMI capable monitors, the Samsung 24" in particular (the one on sale for 499 at newegg). I might overclock the CPU a little bit, I don't want to push it too hard as I want it to last a while.
 
I agree with crhscoog. Ditch the Zalman, and Dominators are a way overpriced -- and you don't need them.

Since you're getting a Q6600 and SLI, you'll be better off with the MSI P7N Diamond instead.

+1. You won't have any issue pushing your Q6600 to a 333MHz FSB (3GHz) at stock voltage. Also, I have owned MSI motherboards for years and have never had a problem with them, so I would recommend an MSI over an ASUS any day of the week. Lately I've heard that ASUS boards are kinda flaky, but YMMV.

I was kind of thinking about a Q6600 OC'd to a cool 3GHz as well. Keep us informed on how your build turns out and don't be afraid to shout for help. :)
