Post Your Workstations 2015

Initially the floor standing speakers sounded like crap until I angled them downward. They sound better now.

If your lava lamps failed, contact lava lamp on their site and tell them they failed. They will replace them by sending new ones, and you won't have to send the old ones back.

Even better, try to get lamps from the 90's from eBay. They flow much better and typically don't cloud up like the ones made today. The lamps in the 90's were made in the USA, while the ones made now are made in China...
It was last summer, so I tossed the dead lamps. I probably should've made the effort to get replacements. Oh well. I'll buy another if I see a cool color combo. Good to know about the old vs. new lamps. I'll try to avoid the Chinese ones.

"Today I play, I am not sorry"?? Well, that's approximately what my Word Lens app says at least...
Nice cubicle cave.
Thanks! They outlawed my custom desktop at work. Good thing I figured out how to make the best of the damned ThinkPad that they stuck me with :D

Сегодня я просто playa

Jesus H Christmas there's some [H] motheryouknowwhaters in this thread already. You expect people to have the bad arse home entertainment and gaming setups going on but not my damn data center at the office in people's basements! :p

What the heck do you all do with that many computers (besides the mining operations - that I get). I just can't imagine what you'd DO with all those PCs and servers! At work - ya... But at HOME!

Some people bring their work home ya know ;)

I've got a computer for you.

This is the radar that I maintain, Each one of those modules converts 440 to 500.

This is 1 of 15 circuit breaker panels

In the back you can see the nest I set up, I tether my laptop to my phone to get internet while in the shop. Normally I can get 40 Mbs, When the radar is not on I aim the antenna at the cell tower and set my phone on the waveguide and can can pull 90Mbs.

Some of the guts

lol yes, in fact I am able to bring anyone into the shop, as long as they are not Chinese nationals. Don't ask, long story.

what the heck, heres my "study":

Im gonna go hide in a few vents now ;)

Some people bring their work home ya know ;)

But WHY! :D Shoot - work can pay the electricity bills, I'll just make sure I can remote into everything! My favorite is actually operating equipment on the manufacturing floor from my smartphone, grilling burgers with one hand - playing plant operator with the other.

Work stuff can stay at work - my house is for fun.

I work about 2 minutes from my home. I'm happy to keep work out of my house, when I come home, (around 330 every day) I'm work and stress free.

Here is my desk. I'm one of 7 people in the IT department. I run the HelpDesk.

I like the idea of working from home.

If I may ask, what king of work do you do?

Did that for 7 years at my last IT job. Bosses and coworkers were over 1000 miles away. I serviced clients outa my house as needed/on call basis. Long ass road warrior days though and after 7 years, it got old and rather lonely. Work for a large university now. Happy to have my own office and social circle again.

Forgot how much office politics suck though....

Been a writer for the last 10+ years. I've worked in several different fields (politics, IT, financial, marketing) and get a lot more done on my own. I head into the agency for some meetings and when important clients are in town. Otherwise, it's just me in my loft office hacking away on my desktop or laptop. Working at home isn't for everyone. If you enjoy and are productive in a social environment, you'd have a tough time with the isolation.

We better end this side conversation before people start bitching about no workstation pics. :p

Figure i'd join in this year. My actual work station at work, need more space for damn plans (40x32's dont fit well :( )......Once the new monitor gets in the home work station will get uploaded I think..

2008 - when the setup was in the closet and was only 2x1 portrait on $20 target folding table.

Added 3rd in 2010, but still in closet.

2013 Finally with a window and on a proper table with cable management :)

2015 Replaced with 21:9 34" Dell!

@rpc180, I love the monitor setup (even the old one), but I seriously have no clue how you prefer that keyboard. That looks like you ripped the bottom half of a Thinkpad off, which has to be my least favorite laptop keyboard.

Nice view though :)

It might be the worst keyboard to you, but if you prefer rubber dome, that keyboard is one of the holy grails.

Hehe - yeah, its different for everyone. I like narrow layout and its quiet - also my dad had a 300 series thinkpad which I thought had the best keyboard ever so there's my bias. I have a Filco tenkeyless with cherry browns and while I love the lighter actuation I didn't really like the key depth and it was still loud compared. I was thinking of trying Matias switches as my second favorite keyboard was a Zeos brand equipped with Alps Whites but the monitor purchase is going to delay that for a bit :)

Love those monitors. Still highly tempted by that one and the LG. While I love the clean lines and simplicity of a single monitor, I'm not sure I could give up my dual 27's. I'll have to try and check one out in person to see if it would work for me or not.

I posted this in Workstation 2014, But since it was late in December I thought I would post again. The lab hasn't changed much since this was made except for a new router to replace the wireless bridge that I happened to fry when installing a Home Automation Lightswitch I did incorrectly. (Thankfully that was all I broke). Anyways heres the video:

Enjoi!

Looking forward to getting one of those once the PPI on them increases near 27inch 4k PPI's for my Gaming PC, I think these would be awesome for F1 games.

Question for you: Do you play games on this? Does it increase your peripheral vision in the game compared to 16:9? (Would I be able to see further right and left in game, not necessarily my eyes vision but my character's vision in game?

It should increase player FoV over 2560x1440 16:9 if the game supports 3440x1440 in 21:9 (widescreenfixer or something like that is a utility that helps unlock some games support of 3440x1440).

Also, in terms of immersion, the Dell is less immersive than my old eyefinity setup because the 3 monitors had about 4 more square inches horizontally and vertically in addition to the extra pixels.

It would feel like a downgrade against dual 27s for sure. But I really liked the idea of leaving eyefinity, bezel compensation (and the bezel's themselves), and display issues every now and then. Microcenter's carry the LG on display (saw 21:9 34" there before pulling the trigger) and I think Fry's also.

Do I game on my dual 27s? Not really any more. Used to more a few months back but even then it was minimal; probably less than 8 hours per month.

My setup is work oriented first and foremost since I work from home. Lots of Excel spreadsheets open, Outlook, Thunderbird, Word docs, and browser windows. This is why I'm not sure I could get away with just one 34" monitor...and I can't afford two of them. :D

Good to know, thanks. I have a Microcenter 45min or so away. I may have to head over and check them out.

A couple crappy pictures of my home work station (I hate my phone camera...) My Denon 3313 is on the bottom left, and my HTPC is on the bottom right. HTPC is an i7, with 32GB of ram, 8TB of caviar black storage space, 500GB SSD for the OS, and a 770GTX video card.

All speakers are Polk. Fronts are Rti-10's, center is a Csi-3, rears are FXi-3s, and there's a 10" sub to ice the cake. Beyer Dynamics DT990's for ninja listening, and a PS3 and PS4 for sports gaming. Bluetooth logitech KB in lap, and logitech mouse and Func mouse pad on a pillow to my right make for a lazy gaming set up. It's good to be single gents. :)
