I was planning on selling this PC, not sure now. I originally left everything on auto and just "unleashed" it, it was stable as far as I could tell. I went in and disabled CnQ though. Didn't think to do that before unlocking it. I'm going to let Prime95 run over night.

I tried the onboard Turbo Key to up the CPU w/ Core Unlocker (all 4 cores)... got it to 3.7+ but was unstable using the default AUTO settings (upon reboot, it gave errors saying can not unlock cores). So... I'm running with 3 cores enabled and at a stock 3.2

Bios unlocks it and sees all 4 cores, but it auto-restarts while at the Win7 loading screen. Tried disabling cores 3 and 4 individually as well as ACC -12% on the 3rd and 4th core with no luck. Tried voltage up to 1.396V (and 1.18V NB) with same issue.

3.12GHz (260x12) isn't stable on stock volts using Intel BurnTest, but 3.0GHz (250x12) seems perfectly fine so far. 29*C load temp so far (22*C room temp) using BurnTest. This HSF is AWESOME.

Was hoping for a stable unlock, but its not a huge deal as it is in an HTPC and will not really be used for much besides playing Blu-Rays and other media. It'll get the occasional game thrown at it, but I don't play anything recent enough to stress it anyways.

EDIT: Corrected BIOS version

Here is my current Phenom II 555 unlocked chip. This chip has been running at this speed for about a year now, without a single issue! Wow, I wish I had several of these chips!

20x multiplier X 205 FSB = 4.1ghz :D

All of this at the stock voltage! running this chip on an Asus Crosshair Formula III motherboard with GSkill RipJaws 2@2gb DDR3 1600's

Stability test application(s) used: Prime95
Amount of time passed in stability app: 4 hours (didn't test more than that)
Any other pertinent info: Not only did it unlock the fourth core, but it unlocked the L3 cache as well. So I have a Phenom II X4 that I bought off of ebay for $42!

UPDATE: Although it passed the Small FFT test for 4 hours, I had trouble getting the whole system stable when I ran the blend test. It would fail in about 30 minutes. I finally was able to get it stable in the blend test by lowering the ht lnik and the nb clock speed to 1000mhz. However, this left me with no overclocking headroom and diminished memory performance. Although I was able to get my system stable with four cores, since I couldn't OC it much at all without it failing the blend test, I disabled the fourth core. However, I kept ACC on Auto and that left the 6mb L3 Cache unlocked. So essentially, I have a Phenom II X3 as oppossed to a Athlon II X3. This left me with lots of OC headroom and let me OC the NB as well.

In short, without lowering the HT link and NB, I couldn't get the system stable with the fourth core unlocked so I disabled the fourth core with ACC still enabled and now I have an Athlon II X3 with 6mb of L3 cache.

If you have the same setup as someone else, would it be safe just to enter their stable settings strait in to your bios? Or should you work up to those numbers?

Each CPU is different. You can use a lowest common denominator of others experiences as a starting point if you must, but it's best to work your way up.

edit: just remembered this is not a discussion thread. Sorry guys.

As long as it isn't a long drawn out "I'm new help me unlock my cpu omfgz" thing, discussion in this thread is encouraged. It helps others troubleshoot.

EDIT: Corrected BIOS version

I saw the same issue when trying to unlock. Nothing I did could get it into windows, and I tried a lot of things. I have an MSI 785GM-E51, so it must be an issue with the MSI BIOS and I am using the latest 12-02 release. I don't really care about the unlock either as it is enough for my server already, but it would be nice to have the quad with a few more watts used at idle. The only other issue I had is that it only does up to 1333 on the memory and I would like to have used the 1600 frequency of my memory. It also doesn't save any lower timings I enter in BIOS when I check in cpuz.

Alright, replaced the cooler with a Scythe Mugen SCMG-2100 with a 133.6cfm 120mm fan.

Now running at 4.2ghz @ 1.552v with a prime-95 load temp of 43C.

2 cores @ 3.2Ghz -> 4 cores at 4.2Ghz = teh awesome!

Core i7 may be faster at the same clock, but at 4.2ghz, who cares? Especially since I paid $80 for the CPU :p

At this overclock it is beating my $300 stock Core i7-920 by a good margin in most applications.

The rig I built for my stepson (see above) seems to want to go no higher than 4.2 regardless of load temps. Right now it maxes out at 43C under Prime95. at 1.552v.

I might be able to go higher with a higher voltage, but I have been told if you go much above 1.550v it can damage things, so I have been reluctant to do so.

BIOS Version: 1101

Amount of time passed in stability app: ~24 hours off and on
Any other pertinent info: The 4th core would unlock in the bios but not boot into windows until I upped the vcore to a minimum of 1.5V, this was at stock 3.2GHz. Windows booted and crashed ~5 minutes after loading. I upped it to 1.55V and winows ran 3dmark once and prime95 for a little while and crashed. Updated the bios to latest version for good measure, same results. I dropped the vcore down to 1.41V and kept it at 3 cores and was stable for 22-24 hours total combined time in prime 95 @ 3.7 GHz. I have not had any crashes since. If I had water cooling I would consider upping the voltage to try and see if that 4th core would "work" but on a sub $90 cpu it's just not worth it to me. I am happy with the performance I currently have.
