I'm sure for me it's not power supply i have Antec true power 550watts.I just think i got a card that dont overclock well but like i said it runs great at stock so i'm happy :D .

the Antec True Power PSUs tend to have droopy rails. the voltages they output is VERY stable but a little on the low side. for example, the 550w True Control i tested had 3.2/4.7/11.4v on the respective rails. they're good PSUs, but when under a lot of stress, the rails just can't keep up.

my BFG 6800GT OC is at 430/1150 right now. i'm using a PCP&C Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe. i'm gonna let it burn in overnight and then see if it'll do 440/1200. :D

Okay, it is my understanding that all the GT cards are the same right? Regardless of brand? Other than the fact that the BFG is overclocked out of the box.

I've seen the PNY for 60 dollars cheaper, why does everyone insist on buying the BFG's?

Real lifetime warranty. Not the BS one PNY's have.

Running

410/1160.

420/1100 running 420 core seems to freeze in some games i.e bf vietnam and UT2004 when playing. Kinda weird just pauses for 10 seconds and then resumes. I lowered it to 410/1160 and its running great.

The memory on theses cards are highly overclockable. I would say its an ultra in a 65800gt oc box

Blows away my radeon 9800 xt.

Oh i am selling my 9800xt for 240 bucks anyone interested

No that symptom isn´t weird. It´s what happen when you overclock the core a bit to much. Happened to me on my ti-4600 too with Mafia. Pause for 5 seconds then resuming then pause for 5 seconds...

edit: read my post update a few posts below. I would say now that the autodetect might be just a tad on the high side and to back it down a few mhz from what it says except for the memory which can go considerably higher.

Holy crap; I just tested my settings up to 435 core, 1.15 memory. suhweet!

Looks like there is alot of headroom in this sample. btw, the autodetect feature is def. conservative, it auto detects at 420/1100

tests stable in real time HDR demo too; which is like Prime95 for the vid card. after about 5 minutes my temps maxxed at 80! Sweetness, looks like the AS I applied yesterday is working great.

the BFG was actually in stock at Fry's, whereas i couldn't find the PNY anywhere.

Hey guys, im new to the forum, but I had to come on here and discuss becouse I am so impressed with my 6800 GT that I cant contain myself any longer. I bought a PNY 6800 GT on friday night, and I pushed it right out of the box to 400/1100 (Ultra Speeds) and not a SINGLE problem, I want to go further, but I dont know enough about overclocking, and im worried of possibly damaging the card. Is heat my only worry in this respect? And what is the heat threshold I should set an alarm for, what will damage my card? I really think i can go much higher.

Thanks everyone, AWESOME CARD!

1 more question, are you guys using stock cooling? What is the best aftermarket cooler to keep my temps low, without liquid or pelier.

Thanks!

argh...i have to revise my settings. I ran game4 a few times and noticed artifacting. I actually had to drop my maxx setting to 418/1150 to eliminate all artifacting. I noticed it too in Far Cry.

So I guess my sample isn't all that after all. STill, my standard setting for gaming will only be 400/1100.

oozish, you took your HSF and applied AS. did you happen to look at the RAM and see what kinda chips they're using?

Same here. Mine overclocks higher, but what's the point? It runs great at 400/1100 in everything I've tried so far.

UT2004 looks awesome at 1600x1200 8xS, 8x AF.

You know, when I was doing that I really wish I took pics and looked really carefully at everything..but truth be told I was nervous as hell and just didn't think about it. I really started questioning how to put the thing back together and started freaking out a little and just wasn't thinking about anything else, lol.

In retrospect i wish I'd done a thorough investigationand took pics, but hindsight is 20/20

looking at mine, the heatsink appears to be attached with thermal tape. i hate taking that stuff off because it always leaves a layer of goo on the chips. is that what is really on there?

thermal tape ya, it's not done well either. It comes off easy with isopropyl alcohol at least 90% strenght.

maybe i'll have to take a peek for myself.

did you put the AS on the RAM too? if so, does it actually make good contact with the heatsink?

I just took mine off and put some acrtic silver ceramique. My idle temps dropped 2C thats it.

Autodetect gives me the same overclock which is around 408-415 core and 1070 core

i cant push it any furthur than that or the test fails.

I dont think we will see anything higher than 420/1100 stable in games i.e unreal T 2004 and battlefield vietnam which i play alot. I get major artifacts in battlefield once in awhile at
410/1100 . I will see if i get any now i will reply soon

I took a look at the ram chips this is what it says

Samsung 422
K45553230F GC20 AWD317PAS

all the chips are samsung

The new VGA Silencer looks like it will be a good aftermarket cooling solution. I picked up 2 GTs at CompUSA and both run ultra speeds no problem. The highest artifact free core speed is 415mhz.

yes i did, since the thermal tape wasn't even covering 2 of the RAM chips! It was kinda slid off to the side. I saw a real 4-5C drop doing mine, it's amazing to me to peak RTDRIBL @ 80C; I'm really proud of that, cause when I first got this card it peaked at 93 and then I stopped it, lol.

I think the heatsink makes good contact with the RAM. I don't understand their cooling solution with the fan blowing backwards tho.

i don't have any AS, but i've got some Shin Etsu which should work just fine. i don't even know if the RAM really needs the active cooling.

Couldn't hurt.....;) Shin Etsu is supposed to work better than AS by all reports I've seen.

I just ordered some of the Shin Etsu G751. My eVga has the thermal tape on the ram, and some silver compound on the GPU. Since adding AS2 which I had laying around, I can no longer run @ 420/1200 like before. Now it's 410/1150 max. I noticed the Ram was making more contact with the HS when I pulled it apart today. I think it's not even, and the thermal tape was making better surface contact.

I will post reports of the Shin Etsu. It's a thick compound that supposedly works very well after 3 days of burn in.

depending on the Shin Etsu you've got, it'll have different texture. i've got the x23 stuff and it's not nearly as thick, but it's still less runny than AS.

I just added acrtic silver ceramique and it works great.

It helped reduce significant artifacting but i can not run any higher in my overclock.

Ceramique stuff sticks great. I would think acrtic silver would be running

Stock BFG
429/1120

Coolbits did a good job of finding my best rate. Going higher made it a little unstable.

I run 435 / 1100 all day long. I did the HDR Testing and the temps topped out around 82-83C at full load, around 56C at idle and 40C ambient. One hell of an overclock :D

After I had to drive 35 minutes both ways to pick mine up at UPS, because they wouldn't leave it at my apts main office, I finally got it back and immediately I ran it at 400/1100 without a problem. I didn't try taking it any further, mainly because I wanted to see how stuff looked in different games, (I had a TI4600). The games are beautiful. I'll try and up the clock later tonight.

Have it clocked at 400/1.10/

About 52-53 idle. 78-80 at full load.

Very nice card. Very stable performance vs. temperature ratio.

Have to love buying a card $100 less than an 6800GT Ultra and get the same performance :D

anyone know when the silencer is coming out? im looking into makeing a new gaming rig( a64 3000+, 1 gig mushkin ram, and posibly this replacing my 9800 pro w/ vga silencer rev 3.(only 128 :( )@XT) it'l have a zlaman 7000-ALCU, and a fanbus so its going to be quiet b/c it's replaceing my current 24/7 folding rig in my room

anywhay, any idea as to an eta for the nv4, and how much it'l cost?

fyi, i was using AS2 in my 6800GT for 2 weeks (this is in a shuttle SFF) and got 82-83 in the light demo after 1 hour. I swapped in Shin Etsu G751 tonight (gpu and memory). I heard it takes 50-100 hours to cure and really see the difference. Anyway the room temp is the same as last night (70f) and I max @ 79 now. I'll report back in a few days to see if goes down anymore once it cures.

Great stuff init? ;)

I use the Coolermaster version that contains Shin, little easier to spread.

after letting my Shin Etsu cure i bumped my core from 430 to 435MHz. i haven't been able to overclock the RAM past 1170MHz though. eventually i'll see how it does without the RAMsinks.
