Post a screenshot of your linux!

os-X is based off Unix, so its basically the same

Would've been better saying that OSX is similar to Unix where in turn BSD is a derivative of Unix. Therefore, you can somewhat make an argument for it being here.

That's more appropriate than saying something based on Unix is similar to Linux.

Is a linux that will install easily on my system

The Intel version of Leopard is certified Unix alongside Solaris and a few others. Really, it belongs in the other section (and it is) but he is right, he is running unix.

hmm the backgrounds sorda crappy but i just made it to match with the theme:

but i do like the outcome

This is my Server running Ubuntu Server, this is the closest thing to a screen shot i can get.
linux.PNG

There will be more screen shots soon once my vmware box that im building is done, running linux in a vm.

This is my Gentoo 2007/OpenSolaris dual boot. The screen shot is of Gentoo. I don't have a screen shot of the Solaris side of things, but it really doesn't look any different. Gentoo is tolerable for a linux distro. I was not impressed with Ubuntu when I used it. And of course, none of the OS's are anywhere near as nice as Windows is.

I'm also thinking of moving to a different Desktop Environment. What do ya'll like/recommend?

Posted in a couple other threads, but here's my latest.

Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy".
WM: XFCE
Dock: Avant-window-navigator
System monitor: Conky with customized config (original is on conky site)

(there's lots of other stuff running, but I minimized it all haha)

click for fullsize

What icon's are you using?

And thanks for folding.... keep it up!

the icon set is called oxy-gnome, I probably got it from gnome-look.org

You're welcome about the folding, its become compulsive and I feel guilty if I forget to start it going and discover this hours later.

my laptop ( stock ubuntu JWM configuration, I just changed the colours):

my 2nd HP visualize workstation:

I've been messing around with my desktop a lot recently (just installed gentoo on the new drive I got) so no updated setup yet.

:D I know - total geek and compiz fanboy right here haha. Sadly its the only thing I have uploaded...I'll grab some more later - hopefully more "normal" ones.

It's a pretty cool and unique setup.

Not everyday do you see someone with a system setup like that.

its not useful at all day to day....i like compiz just for the virtual desktop switching over the defaults and stuff....but its always fun to show off a little. who doesnt like some eye candy? :p

even so, the rest is a very simple clean usable setup, just the way i like it :D

I think it's retarded. I'd be much more impressed by a functional, yet aesthetically appealing desktop.

Compiz-Fuzion is one of the many reasons I love the Open Source community. Innovation like that from non-corporate developers really sticks it to the men (Microsoft and Apple.)

One of my professors got a brand new iMac the other day. He was showing the multiple-desktop manager and was touting how cool it was.

I said "welcome to <insert number of years> ago in the Linux community."

Innovation is at its best when its done for the sake of innovation, not for profit.
