I really think my optical drive is a bit to noisy when playing movies. It's a Plextor PX-755A, is there anything i can do about it?

Nero DriveSpeed.

Makes a huge difference. Decreasing read speeds from 16x to 4x may make things slightly slower when seeking or skipping chapters, but drive noise itself is dramatically reduced.

Tried it out, not sure, but it doesn't seem to work right for me. It keep automatically switching back to "maximum".

Did you click Apply, minimize it? It doesn't always kick in immediately. Also, try setting manual speeds.

I've had this program work with my Samsung SATA DVD-RW, a Plextor ATA DVD-RW, and a Pioneer DVD-ROM from 2002.

Apply? There is no apply button?

Er ... yeah. Sorry, I was going from memory, it's been a while.

I just ran the program ... while the disc is spinning, I am able to slow the Read Speed. It takes a while for it to take effect, but it does work. It's possible your drive isn't compatible with this program...

FWIW, I am using a Samsung SH-S203B drive.

Sorry if this didn't help, Nero Drive Speed's the only program I know of offhand that does this.

Yes there is. In Nero 8 essentials there is a setting called DNC (dynamic noise control) enabling this feature decreases the noise your drive makes while playing discs!

Hope this helps!
