I went into my router before for simple things like adding WEP keys and all that. but when it comes to ports i'm kinda confused, i have a linksys router and i also have a game that uses these ports: TCP: 18210, 18215, 13505.
UDP: (outgoing) 18215, 20000-22000; (incoming) 3658
also notes "port 1042 needs to be opened instead of 1000"

with forwarding and triggering etc. listed in the router i dont know what i actually need to do to "open" these ports, any help?

umm..."Let's take Quake 3 for an example. Say you setup your Q3 server on the LAN, its IP address is 192.168.1.11. You have forwarded the necessary ports on your router, Q3 only uses 27,960... so you've forwarded that port to 192.168.1.11 in your router's web admin interface. And let's say your ISP has given your router a WAN IP address of 216.239.57.100... your buddies will be connecting to the router's 216. address, not your computer's 192. address. By the way, that 216. address is Google's... so don’t try connecting for a Quake 3 game ;)"

is all it says about forwarding ports, so i dont think it really helps me, i'll look around though.

It's right in your web admin....port forwarding section.
