Dial 1-800-Facebook and you'll get a recorded message for a sex hotline. How can this be? I don't know but I wouldn't call 1-800-Twitter, 1-800-Hotmail or 1-800-Metallica either if I were you! Thanks to J. Schoenstein for the heads up.

Dial 1-800-Chicago and instead of reaching a tourism hotline for the Windy City, you will hear a woman offering "one-on-one talk with a nasty girl" for $2.99 per minute. A similar thing happens if you punch in the initial digits of 1-800-Metallica, 1-800-Cadillac, 1-800-Minolta, 1-800-Cameras, 1-800-Worship or 1-800-Whirlpool.

i've had this happen to me too. I was calling some company, accidentally inputted the wrong number by a digit, and got some random porn voice actress asking me if I wanted to continue.

Well I'll give them this, at leats when you fat finger on a phone you dont potentially get your entire life exposed to some hacker unlike fat fingering a website name.

But either way, I think we need to loosen up on the taboo of skin. We want it because we can't see it. Were satisfied with violence cause we can see that anywhere and everywhere....no allure there.

Apparently, a porn company has a partnership with a phone company, else this would not be a viable business strategy. Having a phone number means paying for a phone line and 99% of a million random porn numbers wouldn't pay for themselves.

I once forgot to notify my credit card company that I would be going on a road trip and after a few purchases in different states they closed my card, thinking it had been stolen. When I called the number on the back to re-open the account I mistakenly used 1-800 instead of 1-888 and a lady answered saying, "Hey, sexy guy . . ." My first thought was, "Wow, my credit card company is awesome".

Do we need an anti-1800 number-squatting act?

I'd say no. I don't think facebook or hotmail are overly concerned about a 1-800 number. There'd run into odd situations too like where 56456454 or whatever number stands for both 'HusdonBay' and 'Hotmail' or something odd where two companies would have the same digits. Whose squatting whose number in that case? etc etc? What if one company is a mega corporation and the other is a small business? etc etc?

I think its better this be one area the government doesn't 'legislate' for our 'benefit' at the cost of ____ tax payer dollars and the funding of the ____ organization to enforce that legistation at a continued cost of ____ per year in employee salaries.

Good customer service isn't dead. But, it is expensive.
