I'm getting an irritating sound from my desktop computer, one I've built... ASUS mobo. There is a sound that has begin in the last few weeks, sounds like a cork pop, or when you put your finger in your mouth creating a "pop". The pop even occurs when no apps are open, occurring every few minutes, or sometimes one right after another. It is through the speakers, and would appear to be a .wav file of some kind. This is not the kind of popping occurring from static or anything in the sound hardware.

I check every system sound in the Win7 control panel and it is none of those. There are no notifications popping up and nothing obvious that I see in the notification panel. This is getting fairly irritating and I'm not sure where to go in finding and disabling this sound...

I even had one occur before logging in right after a restart right after clicking the login button for my profile., got to be something on the system level I would think... I did do a cold start by powering down and restarting, at the login screen nothing... but right after logging in, it began immediately.

I've checked settings in the BIOS, an ASUS motherboard, and am leaning towards a low threshold setting, but nothing pops out at me and no temp or fan warnings. I'm lost on what it could be, but it is getting on our nerves... any ideas or advice appreciated. Sorry about the cross post from General Hardware, but I think it is software related.

I've had this before and it's pretty frustrating if it's anything like I remember. Guess it will happen at random times, sometimes feeling like an interval, even when you're just idling?

Forget how I fixed it, but I think I did try reinstalling the audio drivers and unplugging and plugging the cables back in multiple times and IIRC it just went away.

I'll try reinstalling the audio drivers, anything... this is driving me crazy.

I had a similar audio issue once and the only way i found to fix it was re installing windows 7.

Re-installed drivers, that didn't fix it, this is very hard to troubleshoot and I would dread re-installing Windows (ugh)...
