Holy crap, they ain't messing around over in Poland. Suspected of illegal file sharing? The cops over there just go to your house and take your computer.

Copyright trolling is usually handled in the civil courts but over in Poland, things are getting out of control. Police have reportedly visited hundreds of homes and seized hundreds of computers, each alleged to have shared a movie without permission. There are fears that up to 40,000 people could eventually be affected.

Irony level, over 9000.

"According to several reports in local media, police have visited hundreds of homes across the country, seizing hundreds of computers alleged to have been involved in the sharing of a comedy movie titled “Screwed“."

I don't see how the point of an IP being an address and not a physical device isn't common sense here, but I guess we'll see the outcome of this. If their goal is to stem piracy through making people go through a giant pain in the ass process this may work. At least here, the legal precedence has already been set for this being a non-issue.

Poland is getting out of control period. They just proposed a law which would prevent women from terminating their pregnancy even if there was a high chance that they'd die in labour due to foreseeable complications. And even if they detect abnormal development of the fetus.

I don't intend this as a knock on the Catholics but maybe they are having a Renaissance of sorts.

As of 2005 a majority of Poles, approximately 88%, identified themselves as Roman Catholic, and 58% said they are active practicing Catholics, according to a survey by the Centre for Public Opinion Research. According to the Ministry of Foreigns Affairs of the Republic of Poland, 95% of Poles belong to the Roman Catholic Church; however, this survey bases the number of adherents on the number of infants baptized, as provided by the Catholic Church. The CIA Factbook gives a number of 87.2% belonging to the Roman Catholic Church in 2012.

Yeah it kinda sux living here...
But the movie thing... yes Police visited and took HDDs - now they will search for a movie (that was shared 4 years ago if my memory serves) and in most cases will not find it as the movie was worth shit :)
All those cases will end in judges issuing verdicts of "low public danger" (or however it translates into English) and small payout - about 250$ in most cases. Unless they find child porn or something there, then criminal investigation will start to get serious.
It's mostly a scare / inconvenience tactic though it will be hardest on judicial system - so many cases will flood the system for years - normally each case requires a copy of a HDD to be made to preserve evidence, then scanning, inventory and someone must view it to decide if files found are indicative of breaking a law. It requires time and workforce, at best hours for every case, at worst - days. So it will be millions of workhours to do it properly - then it is documentation and the case must stand before judge - as it is with Polish law all such cases will be held close to place of residence of accused so it will bog down the system for years.
Or they will go the easy way and only check the hard drives for the presence of the offending file using write blocking USB interface - from there and only if such file was found will they go forward with building a case. It would be easier on preparation and much less cases to analyze and send to court. But it means much less people actually affected - though the scare tactic worked...

As to the proposed law on abortion - over 90% Poles are against the law, it's just a government hiding in black purses (of the church) and finding popular controversies to hide real problems of our economy, that is using such tactics to control population. It is scare tactics in other clothes...

In the US, this type of asset seizure (via warrant) has occurred for years.

Thing is, the Roman Catholic church is based on Mother Son worship and really has nothing to do with God or Jesus.

The Catholics basically just take whatever the religion is in the area they infiltrate and incorporate it into their control of the people scheme.

Jesus was the hardest on the "religious" leaders of his day as all that they were for the most part were power hungry hypocrites. He called them "fools, hypocrites, blind guides, whited sepulchers, murderers, a generation of snakes".

Here is a really good page that outlines it:

Labor issues are a non-starter as C-Section births pretty much eliminate that. The whole "high chance of dying in labor" is a complete scam as it can be prevented very easily without murdering a baby.

However, other potentially life threatening problems should be left up to the mother to decide whether or not she wants to risk it.

Someone needs to do something about Poland... oh wait...

I need to get into the no-logging VPN business, I think the industry will take off soon.

Ruling party is Law and Justice, right? Even the name tells you they're a swarm right wing crazies. You can't even argue witch such people - they can justify literally everything. Man, history repeats itself too fast.

Pregnancy related risks are not restricted to just giving birth which is only the last few hours of the 9 month process. I'd rather murder a baby that has no self awareness, and no human connections, than even risk loosing the mother. Unless it's her explicit choice to go forward with the pregnancy regardless of the implications.

Dude... dude... you're going to start an abortion debate in here. I'm just saying okay? It's going to happen at this rate. It's going to be horribly inconclusive for anyone not eating popcorn instead of participating.

Isn't that what I said?

I specifically referenced "labor", said that can be dealt with via C-Section delivery, and then said that anything besides that that could be life threatening should be the choice of the mother.

It's just a scar, they can fix it in post. Said no woman ever.

And I know women who specifically have C-Sections because they don't want to go through labor.

So you think that not having a scar is better than not murdering a human?

Did they just propose the law or did they pass it? Last I heard, there are idiotic proposed laws up for consideration all the time in the U.S.
