PNY GeForce 6800 Ultra for $350 at CompUSA!!!

I just got a email from the sales manager saying.

To: ***** ******,

We currently do not carry the 6800 series pny graphics card. It is a new item that should be arriving in our stores soon. If it gets in the store before the end of the advertisement it will be included in the 30% off price. It is not available to be sold at this time. If you have any further questions regarding the product feel free to contact me at gregory_groves@compusa.com.

Thank you,

You may with to inform him that other stores, listed in my list and here, that they ARE being sold right now...

1-page complaint sent.

Denvers.Killers, reply to him and ask him why the card is sold out online?

It's because it has beem purchased through the stores.

It went form a "coming soon" status (like one or two days ago) to a "sold out" status, and there was never a "buy now" status.

have u guys taking law. if u go in to buy a shirt lets say through an advertisement that its on sale, the company has the right to honor the offer not you. they do so to bring more customers into the store selling shirts on sale. if u go into compusa and they say all pny cards are 30% they have the right to limit that offer because what you are saying to compusa i am offering to buy this product for 30% off and u may or may not have to accept it but ur telling me u will because u put this offer in a flyer. you are the offerer not the offeree. thats how they make money they buy goods and sell them to at their offered price which u may or may not accept based on the deal. so if no deal gets done with receipts u have no case against them. their not losing money and neither are you, you'll just have to go someplace else

Yes, an adveritsement it classified as an invitation to make an offer, and not an offer itself.

However, when we the customers make offers, CompUSA refuses to accept the offer (in my case, it is at any price).

It also refuses to honor it's 30% off, but since this item is a pre-pay/pre-order, there technically can't be any bait and switch (or rather it would be hard to prove).

Also, there were two reciepts posted in this thread.

exactly, plus these cards aren't even on sale, so how can u purchase something thats not even available. Its also very bad business for a company to refuse an offer, but they should have thought about that before they posted and approved the ad.

i can understand them refusing but not when they already allowed some to go through.

The cards were technically not on sale, but why does it say "Sold Out" online?

That means they must have been on sale sometime between Sunday and today.

Anyway, I agree that it is a bad business practice.

Your prepaying for them.. as in, buying htem before they get them.. Basically, it is a preorder, without a specific card reserved in your name. The fact that they are in their system, and available for prepay (illregardless of the discount), means that we should get the prepay...

And if the cards are listed as out of stock as they are on their website, then they must allow for a raincheck at the 30% discount. There is no way around this... they're screwed.

What was the exact reason they gave you? Once these cards are in stock, I don't think they'll be able to say crap... I'm gonna give them an email.

Woodland Hills gave me some crap about not being able to prepay for an item which isn't in the system(which I know is) and that the deal wasn't for 6800s(which I know was for all of them anyways) and the Burbank one just told me how they couldn't do it unless the card was in stock and pointed to the page where it said that it must be in stock. Which means a lot of people are getting away with murder :p or that the fine print was only meant for the phones on that page and I was hosed.

On which page does it say the item has to be in-stock?

Page 6... but I'm still going to try again since I was fed a load of horse shit the first time.

whatever the employee says has to go, u as a customer can't fight the offer especially if thats what it says in the official compusa book, they have absolutely nothing to gain by giving u that card for that price, for computer hardware especially i'm not so sure but i don't even think they make that much money off the cost of the sale (well thats the way it is for computer sales at least BB only makes a hundred off each computer) so if they eliminate a sale by 30% off the retail price, their profit must be lessened at least. Also if they do accept your pre-order for the card and give u receipt and don't offer u the card at a later date but refund your money, i still don't think u have a case they'll probably say well we ran out of cards which they'll be buying for u to sell to u at a lower price again cutting their profits. Granted i'm still gonna try this deal, what do u have to lose, nothing except your reputation as a SANE nerd.

is it under the price policy? that's the only one that i see.

if it is, that shouldnt apply. that's for when they're trying to beat competitor prices. not their own

What would be their basis for selling one person the card at the sale price, and not another person (both have money ready to pre-pay)?

Isn't that some sort of discrimination?

Puh, I laugh like a madman in the face of reputation... and sanity... I'm just mainly pissed off that the workers at compusa act like it's coming out of their pockets. They made a mistake, they must honor it, or the BBB will have a field day with them.

Yeah, page 6 has no limitations/restrictions for the PNY 30% sale. Neither does the last page.

Son of a... I think you're right. Oh man, I'm going to raise some nerdy hell!!!

They were MORE than helpful with me.
I walked right in and asked for the 6800U, and they told me it was A07, meaning that they will NEVER get stock on the cards. Thus, if they were to take my money, they could not guarantee me a card at all. They didn't want to risk it. I can, however, buy all the 6800GT's that I want, which is why I'm writing this post. Although I do not have the money to front for it, I would be more than willing to buy a card and ship it to someone for $20 plus shipping. that would come to roughly $330, assuming shipping is $10. I'll take non-credit card paypal as the payment, and it'll of course have to be before Saturday.
I'm more than willing to give my phone number, several email addresses, heatware's under Stealth5325, as is Ebay. You can call me all you want, trace my IP, send me mail, I'll give you 4 different email addresses. I'm not trying to screw anyone here, just want to help my [H]ard|Buddies. You guys make the call really, don't trust me and it's no skin off my back.
Just an offer.

What do you guys think about some sort of petition?

If we have 50-100+ people, maybe our voices will be heard (and CompUSA will probably NEVER have a %off sale on video cards again :) :()

I don't see where it mentions about items being in stock on page 6.link

I have the ad next to me, and I read it 3 times, and couldn't find one thing relating to the deal. I'm sure this situation will change when the products do show up in their computers or when the products become in stock. That must explain why when I called them to check the availability of the 6800 GT, typed in the six digit product code, and the computer told me that it didnt understand the product code.

That makes no sence, seeing that the stores will be getting cards. I bet on the 1st, that A07 will change... If it looks like it wont fly, ill just demand a GT for 280 instead on the 2nd...im not really worried though..

A few words of advice about pny. Every product i have ever gotten from them has been crap/died/ or failed quality control. I had the extreme heat problems with my 6800ultra due to them not installing all 4 heatsink screws around the core. I am still awaiting them to get more in stock so i can get a replacement. Just be carefull with them. I don't want anyone else to get burned like i have. Its really not worth it.

They aren't doing anything more than slapping their sticker on at this point; they don't even make the cards.

Scott

What is quality control then? I would have thought that they would at least look at the card they are sticking their sticker on.

Yep.. everybody has referance boards right now... so there is no point in brand loyalty (unless one offers something another doesnt, etc)...

Hey will my MAZE4 fit on these cards? I can't for the life of me find out.
I don't think so...as far as I know the mounting holes are completely different.

dude that only applies to their price matching policy. They are just saying that the competitor has to have it in stock in order for them to pricematch it. am I wrong?

Yes. They still have to honor the 30% off as it is NOT price matching.

i think COMPUSA has listed the cards as out of stock and they're going to do that until after 7/3 so that you can't use the 30%. good luck guys... i'm gonna try elsewhere.
