So I just got dont playing crysis warhead and the at the beginning of the game I was hoping that they wouldn't include aliens this time around but low and behold about 1/3 into it I see those damn annoying aliens!! These things seriously just game the make annoying and tiresome to play! My favorite part of the game was the last chapter where you get kill all the KPA in the airfield. Just sneaking into their base, hiding and killing them off steathly with a sliencer is the most fun part of the game. I really hope in crysis 2 they don't add a lot of alien bullshit. Let me kill intelligent AI humans!

Given that the storyline is ABOUT aliens, what did you expect? Psycho to get recalled to guard duty at Gitmo?

Wether or not the plot is about an alien invasion you gotta agree with OP in the sense that the parts of the crysis games where you get to sneak around and kill human enemies are the only parts that are actually fun. :(

I didnt like the aliens in Crysis but I think the AI was improved enough in Warhead to make them a little more challenging and thus tolerable..

Yeah the aliens were gay (you could tell that they stole the spaceship part of the game directly from PREY). But hey! we have Far Cry 2 to look forward too :D 100% alien bullshit free! (hopeully)

Crysis = Aliens. That is the story. That is that game. Period.

Medal of Honor= WW2
Brothers in Arms= WW2
Call of Duty = (4/5) WW2
Crysis = Aliens on a Island.

Rofl. I don't see how this was any of a surprise to you.
If you ever played the first one you would understand that the story ending to lead on to a sequel.
During the development of Warhead it was stated that this game happened in the same time frame at the other side of the island as the original Crysis.
So of course it will Have aliens. Its CRYSIS.

Little Hint : Crysis2 will also have aliens, because it too is "Crysis" and the story was never completed.

*spoiler*
Prophet went back into the island (now the orb) and what looks to be Nomad & Physco are going back in for him.
All warhead did was bring up Code Blue, whatever the heck that is. I think this has something to do with aliens waking up in the first place.
But who knows, we (or at least I) will find that out in Crysis2

*spoiler*

Yeah Far Cry 2 will most likely be the first shooter to suck me in since GRAW2. It's gonna rock.

I didnt mind the aliens. granted, they werent as fun to kill as the NK's were. For me, and I dont claim to be a professional hard core gamer, I just love to play, the aliens were much harder to kill than the NK's. When I first played through Crysis last November I died alot when the last part of the game presented itself to me. In fact, the first time I played the game was on Normal and I didn't die at all till I got to the Aliens. Every time I played I bumped it up a notch in difficulty and the results were a game that was incredibly fun to play for the first 2/3rds of the game and and walked the line between just fun and ok for the last third of the game.

Atleast they could make it to allow the player to play the game surgically.

One of the premise of the open system (or whatever the first half gameplay is called) is that you can play as you want. You scout the area first, make your way past guards, do the mission, then escape.

When the aliens came along, you were reduced to only one way of playing, and finess went out the window.

if u don't like aliens you can go back to play COD 4 ;)

That's the problem, the alien levels were linear and the game *became* COD4

The main reason people are commenting on the shitty inclusion of some shitty aliens that contribute nothing to the enjoyment of the game, I think, is that people expected Crytek to have learnt from the shitty inclusion of some shitty mutants that contributed nothing to the enjoyment of the game in FarCry. Nobody seemed to have liked the shitty mutants because they made the game boring, and were disappointed in Crysis for the same reasons. Now, since people made this point when Crysis was released, I think some people harboured a little hope that Crytek would have taken it on board and perhaps swayed the focus of Warhead, since it's played from another perspective. Artisitic license, and all that.

It's disappointing, because Crysis was pretty fun when you were mauling Koreans in villes, and I think people were hoping for more of that in Warhead, rather than less. I'd only played about fifteen minutes of Warhead before the aliens were chucked at me. Tedious.

I think that the implementation of aliens in Crysis:Warhead was 100% better than it was in Crysis. I did enjoy the massacre that was fighting the Koreans, but I found it to be stupidly simple. The only time I really felt worried about dying in Warhead was when I was fighting the aliens.

Being swarmed by aliens in crysis warhead was pretty fun. Try using your other suit powers besides armor mode when fighting them.

IE: Go invisible, regain some health and pop out again
Run up to them and do a point blank shotgun
Well I guess there is not much to do with strength mode

I'm not sure that Crysis devs read this forum, perhaps this would be better posted over at Crytek forums? ;)

Maybe Crysis 2 will have dragons and fairies that we can kill with our magical happyland suit.

After Crysis, I had enough with tropical locations and aliens.

That means I won't be buying Warhead or Crysis II.

I really enjoyed Crysis but I have to say most of the fun I had was before the aliens showed up. I had a blast with Farcry but the Trigens also kind of blew it for me. So I am really looking forward to Farcry 2 because it will not have monsters or aliens.

Im quite sick of games that have to rely on aliens, mutants/monsters, demons etc as a plot device. It seems that the shooters that dont have any are set in WW2, which is ok but Im getting tired of that setting as well.

Ye, i agree with most comments about crytek not learning from far cry. Simply put they cannot make games. I am playing through them and to a degree enjoy them but i much rather just have a generic, game where there is no ice and you have just a plain hostage rescue that it first starts as.

Far Cry was okay, but crysis was like it in too many ways including the pathetic voices, character behaviour and AI as well as the arcady vehicles controls. I would like the AI of source games and the characters done by valve as well as at least theirs aren't corny and comic unintentionally.

If another company were to make a game using the cryengine then you could get a good looking game with actual gameplay and storyline that it deserves.

Criticizing Crytek and using Valve's games as an example, is very funny, especially when AI in Valve games involve the amazing :)rolleyes:) "attack player" algorithm...

You loved GRAW2 also? I though I was the only one!

I have to agree with the OP, the aliens in Crysis and Warhead are poorly done. Dire A.I and the majority look about as scary as a fluffy teddy bear. Still love the KPA sections though.

Totally disagree - the A.I in Far Cry and Crysis is pretty average at best.

The A.I in all of Valve's games is far superior to anything Crytek have done. You've stated in many threads that you won't buy a Valve game so I'm not surprised you think this.

yes but at least the A.I does it's job in valve games. The A.I in crysis were either far too dumb or far too prescient in that they would detect your presence even though there was no way they could know you were there.

There was one 'hilarious' occasion when the KPA would run backwards towards me - I simply shot them in the back one by one and they still didn't detect me!

Yes, or like how i shot one with a sleeper bullet and a couple of them a few hundre metres away suddenly started crouching and then fired a flare for re-inforcements. How those rigfht next to them will look around baffled while someone who can't even see what happened goes on full alert.

The aliens were probably the most intelligent things in the game, even cloak didn't work at times. So clearly, it is not that crytek can't design good A.I but won't for some reason.

There's a difference between saying I won't buy a Valve game, because of ridiculous retail options and repetition in their games and talking about how "wonderful" their AI is. If you can't make it, well...I'm also not surprised about it.

So back on subject, how is AI in Valve's games far superior to anything Crytek have done ? Can you describe anything other than "attack or follow player" in any Valve game ? Anything other than "attack" or "follow" player, is part of a scripted scene...

One of the major leaps in the Far Cry and Crysis is the ability to intentionally confuse the AI. That means throwing grenades and diversions. Eventually, they panic and start spraying. I have never seen that kind of AI in any other game. Every other game has the AI following a pre-scripted actions and do poorly in open terrain. FarCry and Crysis are the first games where the AI actually looks like he wants to stay alive.

As for the AI's running backwards towards you. You were probably using a silencer. One standard tactic is to put on the silencer, and fire at a distant bush. Then pop their heads as they go out to investigate. When one of them dies, they run for cover, but since they're still not sure where you are, they'll likely go to a spot that's hidden from the last place they think you are (i.e. the bush). It's pretty much what a real player would do.

I'll go against the OP & say that I enjoyed having aliens in the game. Screw the complaints, if you bought anything Crysis... its your own fault (or joy).

So you blew off The Orange Box because of, "ridiculous retail options and repitition". Your loss

Not all A.I routes taken in the Half-Life games are full on attack. I have seen flanking, grenades thrown into holes, hiding behind scenery. Sure mutants are pretty dumb and head staright on in but mutants would behave like that. The gunship battles are a classic example of superb A.I as are the strider battles. The way Antlions fight for you is clever scripted A.I. At least the A.I works in Valve's games, more than you can say about many games released - Crysis included.

Personally, I think Far Cry handled having non-human enemies a lot better than Crysis did.
At the very least, there was some tactical gameplay with the Trigens. Once you start getting to the aliens in Crysis it becomes a virtual rail shooter because the gameplay is somewhat slow. The Trigens in Far Cry were somewhat human and while fast, they at least still allowed to to do some unique things. Once you hit the aliens in Crysis, the large "take different routes" levels suddenly become somewhat claustrophobic and the gameplay is akin to Doom 3.
I don't mind the aliens, just don't make the game suffer because of them.

How can I lose something I didn't want as a whole ?
And it's pretty ridiculous, when the only option in retail, forces me to re-buy games I already own...

LOL, so "better AI" means "clever scripted AI" now ?
Scripted Events != AI...I thought that was clear for a long time. So no, Valve games (and most other games for that matter) don't have better AI than Crysis.

I played through Far Cry after getting it with the FC2 pre-order on Steam, and I have to say I didn't hate the mutant sections as much as I remembered from the first time around. Although the rocket-launcher ones are a cheap design, and the whole Volcano level is awful.

Funnily enough I didn't hate the aliens in Warhead as much as I remembered from Crysis. Maybe that's because of changes Crytek made, or maybe because I knew what to expect so they didn't spoil the game like they seemed to in Crysis.

I don't agree with the other comment that Valve does amazing AI though. It's just that like everything else Valve does, it's simple but highly polished and there are fewer examples of "running backwards" or whatever bugs that you might see in Crysis. It's not especially sophisticated AI though, however much more you might enjoy their games.

So far, I've been able to outsmart & abuse every AI in all FPSes. HL2 was quite easy on hard if you knew what to do with the AI. Warhead wound up being easy by cloaking for the aliens & KPA. I used to be all out run & gun when I first started playing FPSes but now I prefer stealth & snipe.
