I know we are preaching to the choir here with our bunch of readers, but you would be surprised at the people who would be pulled into buying an overpriced HDMI cable that promise outstanding transfer quality.

Is there any argument for expensive HDMI cables at all? No, there really isn’t. A big part of the claims here are that HDMI cables need to be “special” to do a good job of audio.

Bought 4 yesterday before this thread was created.

The only people who need even moderately expensive video cables are the companies and manufacturers which test and certify equipment compliance. Even then I doubt the cables are more than $100-$200 for longer lengths if it's not made in-house. $13,500 for a cable = "I am stupid and/or very gullible."

If you need a cable, Monoprice always has the best deals and their premium cables are cheap and still work great.

In before the "audiophiles" start spewing marketing speak with no clear understanding of how digital signaling works. :D

I no longer buy monoprice cables, I got tired of their low quality connectors falling apart. Cheap enough, but I splurged for slightly better cables and I haven't needed to replace a cable in years now.

Whoever created the HDMI connector needs to get his ass kicked.

PCHcables are local to me so I go there. Bought two 100ft Cat5e cables for 10$ each. hard to beat that. And yes, they worked fine.

Electrical engineers think they're God's gift to the Universe, it wouldn't dawn on them that they should defer connector design to mechanical engineers. So most electronic cables and connectors suck.

My favorite blind test is the $100 "high-fi" speaker wire vs a coat hanger.

I work with tons of electrical engineers and I'v yet to come across one who actually believes the hype/marketing... that seems to only work for wanna-bes or folks in other fields like IT or editing or apple

I have one of these cables.
I put on some High Def Porn and the next thing I knew, I was surrounded by Hot Teen ********* Amateurs.
Took me a week to get the stains out of the carpet."

LOL, if the cable is good enough to not have any data loss, then it is as good as it can get. Spending more gives you nothing. So anything past about $8 is too much for most any cable 10' or under.

They should have at least put a damn locking tab on it.

one day displayport will take over the universe and then we shall have locking connectors on everything!

Wait don't all HDMI cables perform the same regardless of price? It will still serve the same basic purpose, regardless of materials put into the making of the cable.

Only thing that may make one better (only at long distances, like 100FT or more) is an "active cable". AFAIK a passive cable will not work very well at long distances. The only thing you can really improve is the materials and make sure it lasts longer, but that isn't really a huge issue.

There are reasons to get more expensive (not obscene "monster" like prices) and that's for longevity of the connector and outside shielding. Otherwise a 1 is a 1 and a 0 is a 0.

I you plan on running cable over a bunch of fluorescent light ballast units then all this advertising about signal integrity super-shielding would be useful.

Funny thing is I remember when Audioquest was the reasonable alternative to Monster and other interconnect manufacturers. Looks like their cheap cables now start at $35.00. A lot changed in 17 years.

I got around active HDMI by running Cat6e through the house and ending with HDMI room to room. Maybe I could sell this for $30k?

Please dont buy even a $20 HDMI Cable.

Hahahah, they were saying that on the news before Christmas. I was laughing because "Monster" always sells "TOP QUALITY" Hdmi cables for 20+ dollars....just seen one for $300....WTF.

I think the last HDMI cable I bought was $25....but it was also 50ft

Yeah, length adds price, but in general for anything under 10ft one should not be spending more than $20.
