PlayStation DualShock 4 Compatible with Windows PCs

Not that i'm gonna get either of the two new consoles anytime soon. It just seems Sony is making the all around better product.

I'm gonna totally get one of those controllers for my pc and throw my wired 360 controller in the trash.

keep the wired. It can do things the wireless cant, like work on mobile etc.

While I think it is a very nice thing to include in that controller, I won't be buying any of the next gen controllers until I can first try a Steam controller. My wired controller is ready to go in the trash as well, but if I can get a controller that could play far more games, I'll go with that.

This is great news. I prefer the PS style controller, and this just gives people another option

I like my wireless 360 controller for my HTPC, I wouldnt use a PS4 controller when it has a ton of extra features no Windows game will ever use.

About f**kin time :)

I wanted to have a PS3 controller in windows for a while, but didn't want to run those driver hacks to get it to work. I'd love to be able to have a useable dpad for once, though it might still suck depending on developer support. I got a 360 controller because it was MS made, and I know any games using those idiotic QT events would actually show the button to press instead of some generic button 3 prompt, which makes you slower at having to press a button because you forget which one is button 3 on a generic controller.

Can someone tell me why the d-pad on practically all controllers suck ass?

They started sucking when analog sticks became popular. The SNES dpad was the shit.

Trying to stick multiple 'direction buttons' under a single pad is an inherently bad idea I think. Sony is the only company to get it right because their pad isn't really a pad, it's 4 separate buttons.

Yeah this has something to do with why Software these days sucks compared to not too long ago. They just don't care for depth and completeness now. Its onto the next big flashy buzz word bullet point... to hell with the proper stuff that's still a requirement and a big part of something's usability! Shovel more marketing BS please!

Oh and amen to SNES DPad. That thing was boss! If i had to play SSFII, MKII and KI on the DPads of today... omg! I'd have gone on a killing rampage through Sony/MS pretty quick! How anyone can stand using the 360 DPad is beyond me! Sure the PS3's is at least useable. But as you say.. still not as good as the ones of old.

Yeah I could use the Snes controller to play Street Fighter II and actually pull off all the moves with consistency, can't say the same with todays controllers, fighting stick manufacturers aren't complaining though.

Cool, though I'm mostly hoping the controllers aren't uncomfortable like the previous ones. Enough people must like PS style controllers for them to have persisted with them so long. I fucking hate the things, so awkward and give me cramps after playing for any extended period of time.

PS4 controller vs. Xbox One controller... not sure which one I'll want when they're available.

I had that exact controller. I used it for one driving game and never used it again. It was a pretty good controller though. I bought an Xbox controller for platforming games on Steam. I like it better for the only reason I do not have to set it up most of the time. The games usually "recognize" the Xbox controller and I do not have to map buttons. I did not have a Xbox 360, I had a PS3. I did like the PS controller but I rarely use a controller with my PC, the Xbox unit will serve me fine for now.

I've heard the complaint a number of times, but I've never had any ergonomic problems with DualShocks. Perhaps there's a certain kind of grip style that it requires and I naturally settled upon it — I don't know.

It says in the article that it only allows basic functions. Why would someone pay $60 for basic functionality. Microsoft will release a PC version of the Xbox ONE controller for the PC and it will have full functionality. While I like the keyboard and mouse there are times I want to sit back and enjoy everything from the couch. I have the wired 360 controller for PC and still use it, I actually use the same wired 360 controller for PC on my 360 because it is more comfortable not having the battery pack on the back of the controller. This is good if someone likes the feel of the PS4 controller because they already own one. On a personal note, I prefer the 360 controller for the analog triggers are much more responsive to playing say a race game where you are throttling your gas.

What I don't understand, is why Microsoft AND Sony don't require developers to code for keyboard and mouse, just so users have the option (as it is my understanding it isn't impossible, developers just don't put the code in for it). So many titles on PS3 and 360 I wish I could use a keyboard and mouse for, never bought the games because of lack of K&M support. Those K&M converters for consoles I've found are horrible.

Microsoft has an entire API devoted to the X360 controller (XInput) and requires that developers support it in order to achieve Games for Windows certification. Sony has no such luxury: they have to do the best with what they have.
