Pixel 9 / Pixel 9 Pro / Pixel 9 Pro... XL?

Huge improvement. Performs as well as you'd hope. I didn't have to register fingers more than once to get reliable sign-ins.
Nice! That's one of the 3 items on my "must improve" list. The others are battery life and face unlock.

When does the Pixel 9 series officially get Android 15? Or should I just opt in to the beta and get it that way?

Really like the rounded corners on this phone, like some of the older Pixel phones and Nexus phones, they were rounded. It just makes it easier and more comfortable to hold.

The display is very bright and vibrant and just clean and beautiful.

Phone feels extra smooth and fluid, even setting up and downloading and installing apps, it didn't stutter.

But I want Android 15 on this phone, will probably go the 15 beta.

And I need a case ASAP, can't use this phone naked, it's another slippery bar of wet soap.

The official cases are supposed to be very good, but I'd also look at Bellroy's officially approved cases as well. They have MagSafe/Qi2 magnets and really look the part.

If the smaller 9 Pro was available I probably would've picked that one up just to try a smaller phone.

I've had all the large sizes Pixels, 6 Pro, 7 Pro, 8 Pro and now 9 Pro XL.

Showed my kids the new nine Pro XL this morning. They're both high schoolers and they're like holy Christmas Dad. That phone is gigantic.

My youngest son. He's still rocking the old school pixel 5 and my daughter has the regular size pixel 6. I asked him would you want a phone like this and they're like no thanks. Not that large. But I get it there younger in a smaller hands than me.

But for some reason I wouldn't mind just giving it a shot a smaller phone for once. I haven't had a "small sized phone in years.

I know it's not a true comparison, but here's a case for my wife's pixel 8 next to my pixel 9 Pro XL without a case.

Funny, both of my kids have a (my old) Pixel 5 and Pixel 6 as well, but my older son has the 6 and daughter has the 5.

Yeah, visually the two phones aren't way too different in size, but in your hand and for ease of use it's a big difference unless you have huge hands. The smaller phone still isn't small by any means. It's just a normal sized phone with an oversized option.

Don't have my SIM in this phone yet ( need a case ASAP ), but man the rounded corners are so comfortable and nice, and the bright display is great.

This is a very nice phone.

My simple homescreen setup to start;

Doesn't look like the smaller Pro is being released anytime soon (maybe very small quantities). Bestbuy has "notify me" and the Google Store says shipping late Sept/early Oct.

Ditto, my carrier is only listing the base 9 and the 9 Pro XL. From what I've seen, sounds like the 9 Pro is just so popular that Google doesn't even want to try selling it through other channels until it's widely available. Not that it's suddenly reaching iPhone or Galaxy levels of demand, but Google is clearly satisfying pent-up demand for a smaller high-end Pixel.

Desperately needed a case, swing by my local T-Mobile store on lunch break and grabbed this for now;

Hey, that case is a good match for it. How are you finding it so far?

Case surprised me, I needed a case today, and this was the only thing locally in stock at the Tmobile store and it looks cooler than I expected, a more matte stealth fighter dark grey color, looks cool. But I had last years version, the bay blue, and it was comfortable and good protection, but man it was sick, almost felt as slippery as the naked phone. This one is a bit gripper, but still slick and both have this almost weird gummy sticky but slippery feel kind of disgusting feel if that makes sense LOL

I have a couple cheap Amazon cases coming soon, but I'm afraid they're the same type of material. We see

Debating on a Mous case or Thinborne maybe, but that may too thin?

Just ordered this, I have the same case for the 8 Pro, and holy cow, the grip and comfortable feel in hand is off the charts. The sides have a ribbed rubber edge and it feels SOOO GOOOD in the hand, and gives super grip, and the back is flush with the camera making it really nice to hold. Overall it's an A+ for comfortable and great grip case.

I prefer to use a phone, naked, it feels great and makes it smaller in the hand. Some phones you can somewhat comfortably do that. A Pixel no, as in no F'ing way, these Pixel's are slippery AF. You just can't use this phone naked, it will fall.

My Pixel 8 pro felt great naked, but man it was super slick with no case. Same with the 6 Pro and 7 Pro all are crazy slick, will slide off anything. So a case is just a must, unless your cool with it hitting the floor now and then.

I feel like something like skateboard tape on the sides might be a thing (obviously toned down a bit to prevent hurting the pockets).

Just got a notification that my $232 Google Store credit is going to expire on August 31. What credit? It didn't show up when I bought the 9 Pro XL I returned, last week.

Called Google and they confirmed it. Decided to buy another 9PXL (128GB Porcelain). With the credit and my trade in, I'll pay $1Ain't a bad deal.

I wanted the 9 Pro, but it wouldn't ship until late September.

Hard to pass that deal down. Looking forward to your 9 Pro XL review. I'm liking it so far, yeah it's not a major leap or way better than the 8 Pro, it's just a bit better overall in the right places. Nicer screen, a bit more fluid and smoother, battery life seems a bit better, etc.

I'm glad to hear the battery life is better. I'm still thinking of trading in my wife's P7, but I don't really want Google store credit that expires in a year. I'd rather the Bestbuy credit (even though you only get $320 instead of $360 for the P7 trade), but you can't order the smaller P9P yet on their website. I definitely don't want the larger XL phone. And I'm not sure that the regular P9 is worth it since they are giving $100 extra credits for the Pro, etc.

I'll probably just wait and see what happens during Black Friday.

What do you guys avd gals like for a homescreen? A vibrant colorful setup, or a stealthy dark themed look?

For a cheap case, this is actually super nice, maybe my fav of the cases I bought so far. It's kind of like the official Google silicone case, but this isn't as slimy feeling, and it's a hair thinner than it. Has a more harder feel not so soft, but it's also not rigid hard or anything. Lot's of colors to choose from, I bought two colors, the greenish/gray color, and the dark slate color.

Off topic, but whatever happened with Material You changing the homescreen font and At A Glance to black when setting a light color wallpaper?

Back with the Pixel 6 or 7 release Google was showing off wallpapers that were lighter and then the font was black to go with it and be seen, as opposed to staying white making it hard to see.

But that like never happens anymore, almost all light wallpapers the font is still white.

Just noticed I mistyped the price. I wish it was only 1 dollar. I paid $100. Still a pretty good deal. I thought about buying the new Nest thermostat with the credit, but mine is less than a year old. New phones are more fun, anyway. :D

I think you'll like the 9 Pro XL.

In my opinion it's just a more refined and polished 8 Pro. Overall a bit better a bit nicer phone in the important areas, like slightly nicer display, better modem connection, a bit better battery life.

I do like the new design, the rounded corners are very nice, and the phone feels a bit more premium.

Is it a night and day leap forward type phone? No. Not at all. But I can say confidently it's a nicer phone than the 8 Pro.

So I got my dad a regular Pixel 9
He is replacing a Samsung S22

The S22 is literally a two year old phone
Both phones are similar in size
The Samsung is 120Hz while the Pixel 9 is 60-120Hz. The P9 felt a bit choppy sometimes while the Samsung is always smooth
The display brightness is very similar as well as the resolution
The build quality is good on both
The chip is 4nm on both

Honestly if you aren't getting a Pro, just don't bother. Basically the Pixel wins in a software category and that's about it.

I preordered my Pixel 9 Pro (non-XL) the day it debuted.... still not shipped -_-
