So it took this long for Google to release this stupid 6a. Can they do better than that? So many corners cut on that 6a, I don't really see a point, but maybe Google does..
It's a Pixel with the latest chip (for now) and still-solid cameras for $150 less than the regular Pixel 6. Think that's all it really needs to be. Now, sales might make the standard Pixel 6 a better buy in some cases, but those might only last until the Pixel 7 arrives. There's a certain allure to knowing you can buy a reasonably speedy Google phone for under $500.

Well, I wasn't going to buy the 6a, but then they offered $300 trade in on Pixel 3a and Pixel Buds A for free. Hard to say no to that when I had a 3a sitting around. They also don't offer that high of a trade in on the regular 6.

As you said- solid camera. But 60hz, poor screen, slow FP reader it's just too much too swallow even for that camera.

It'll be a sufficient upgrade from my 3a. I'll give it a few weeks into phones-in-hands to see if they'll budge on the straight 6 price at all. If not, then mint green here I go.

Google Fi is offering the phone for $15 a month for 2 years. Which will save you $209 overall. I'm a fi user so im thinking of doing that and upgrading my p3.

The slow reader is something to think about, but I wouldn't mind the so-so 60Hz screen for $449 new. Unfortunately, the Galaxy A53 has its own compromises at that price... and in North America, at least, you can't easily buy one of those Poco/Realme/etc. phones that offers a 120Hz screen at a ridiculously low price.

Depends what you value most
I am using the regular P6 and I am sick of slow ass FP reader. I am waiting for the P7 just to see if it offers anything better and if not I will dump this thing even though I like the software experience, but that's about it.

I can see the 6a being a decent upgrade from older phones. 60Hz gets an immediate "NO" from me...but that's because I'm used to 90/120. If you're coming from a 60Hz phone, it's no big deal. Everything else seems fine IMO. You're still getting a lean device that isn't losing 10GB to bad apps you can't get rid of, and it has a few of Google's superior apps (like the dialer) that don't carry-over to other OEM's.

Yep. Whoever is coming from the 90/120, this is an automatic no go..
I am more interested in the Buds Pro. Wonder if it offers any significant improvement over the regular Buds that I got it for free with my P6.

Same. I like those considering they didn't cost me anything. They lose out to the Galaxy Buds in a few ways, but I like how they integrate with the system much more. If they can improve the battery life and bass, I'd be down to grab some in the future that aren't free.

I got a 4a pixel for my gf and am impressed by it. Definitely going pixel route now that LG is out of the picture.

I'm hoping Verizon start offering me trade-in on my pixel 2 soon - finally a modern Tensor with a sane weight / size .

But I don't need to be the first to purchase!

Agreed... I'm alright with the Pixel 6 whatever happens (for me it's a secondary device), but I'd really like Google to get its act together and make a Pixel phone that any enthusiast would enjoy.

My fingers are still crossed for a decent Pixel Fold. My plan is to buy either a Pixel Fold or an iPhone Fold. Basically whoever makes a decent folding phone first gets my $.

I mean with the trade-in value right now on the 3a, I'd jump before they pull that offer. Final cost is ~$150 + tax or so with the Pixel Buds A included. Pixel Buds are going for ~$60 or so on fleabay NIB if you really don't want them driving the price down to around $100.

Honestly, I wish I had more Pixel 3a's lying around to trade in.

Remember 6a = replacement for 5a and 5a 5g. I am guessing the supply of 765g chipsets are running dry and it make sense for google to use Tensor crossed the line up. I have not read many reviews but the 6a has a newer FP sensor vs 6 and 6 pro. To me for normal people, the 6a is a great phone. Smallish, solid software, great camera, long support and other good features that mostly just work. 60hz would be a no go for me and I would rather have the 6 vs the 6a but for the wife, family, and general foaks I would rather it over any other Android device period.

Dang I have two of them sitting in a drawer. I have a 6 and my wife has the recent iphone. No need for new phones but temped to do the deal and flip the 6a's. Probably more trouble than it's worth.
Does google do the wait 6 weeks for a mastercard thing on the phone trade in?

They refund part of the purchase price on whatever form you used (e.g. credit card refund, PP, etc.)

I saw that, pretty tempting, might net about $600. I have heard horror stories about trade ins. Not personally but on the interwebs.

Personally, I've never had a problem trading in phones to Google. They are really only looking to make sure it turns on, is factory reset, and the screen isn't cracked. As long as those three things are met, you should get all your money.

Not thrilled with the 6a overall but ex's 3a needed replacing so ordered one tonight. $189 after taxes in theory if they take the trade in and free ear buds. Not a bad deal.

I just don't know. I could get the 6a, move on from the P3, but P7 is coming this year too...
I just upgraded from a pixel 2 XL / p20pro to the p6pro. Quite frankly, I don't see why I bothered. Same amount of space (my carrier only offered 128gb (not that I use that much anyway)), same relative speed, I mean, I am just browsing and stuff. Who is doing things on their phone that needs 8 cores and whatever else? Are people using these things for production or gaming or something?

Pretty vague. The battery life I agree with, though. I can usually get away with a charge every two days on the p6p while the others needed daily charging. Daily wasn't game breaking though, as I charge at night anyway

if you like the weight of yiour pixel 3 I would recommend the 6a. I doubt that this first really successful pixel platform is going to shrink in size / bulk anytime soon

I only want to wait so I don't lose out on the 7 if it's great. Haha. I think the size of the 6a is fine compared to the 3.

I guess for me it's about the security updates and battery life. I would think that after this amount of time you replaced the battery and might even be using an alternate OS.

I didn't like the Pixel 2 XL but the plain pixel 2 was one of my favorites.

I had the original battery in both my previously mentioned phones. Both last the same duration. Kids are using the pixel 2 XL, but the p20 screen damage makes it hard to use.

Whered you find that deal? I've been needing to upgrade my partners Pixel 3a.

Google trade in, they are giving decent return on all pixels. I got $300 for each 3A, we'll see if that's what they award. I assume they'll come through, but one phone does have a scratched screen.
