June update seems to really improve the battery life on the Pixel 6. I am also not having any issues with the fingerprint reader. I guess I'm the only one.
I can report the same! I have noticed it does not drain nearly as fast

Yeah the update has improved the battery a bit. The update has made the fingerprint reader a bit better. Some update to audio as well.

I appreciate that they keep adding things to "At a Glance" and those things are (luckily) carrying over to Google's widget and not just the Pixel Launcher. That way us Nova folks are still getting the benefits, too.
Initially they mentioned the June update would have an on-screen notice if your device was set to vibrate. Seems that's only on the shade menu. Odd choice IMO. There's a plenty of unused space in the upper-right, might as well use it.

I've noticed that the fingerprint reader on my phone is slower, too. I never had issues before. Now it drags. It still always works, but it takes 2x as long.

I might have missed it, but just in case- here is a link to the Ars article about Pixel parts availability, including a link to the Pixel fingerprint calibration tool. Nice to see this rolling out.

Picked up my Pixel 6 Pro today. I knew it was big, but still. Replaced my P20 Pro. Great phone as well but the screen broke about a month ago and it's been brutal to use. I never planned on upgrading, but even I have my limits.

+1. I noticed it a few weeks ago, the fps /fingerprint sensor is really good now.
Still wish it was on the back but I no longer regret buying this phone.
Pretty happy. :D
I loved the location on my Pixel 2 XL. The rear was the perfect location when holding the phone.

I have the Nord and liked gettign the back sensor back after the underscreen of the OP6t, but at the end of the day I just want it to work. I don't want bleeding edge anymore, but I'm glad the 6/6 Pro/6a is shaping up to be a good phone. The 6t really ruined my perception of what a phone should be and I can't see spending 1K on a phone ever. But the Nord is Ssslllooowww at times. It's all I can do to not go play with the demo Pixels at Best Buy.

Got my 6 for 450$ used in basically mint shape and a nice screen protector already pre-installed from Swappa. 500$ is my limit for a phone these days now

Will Android 13 ever theme third party app icons? Would love to see the Material You themes work on apps like Twitter, Reddit, Telegram, etc...

I know I can use a launcher and theme away to whatever I like, but for some reason I kinda like the stock launcher on a Pixel.

The lack of theming to like 2/3 of my apps is why I never bothered with that functionality. It looks ridiculous when only some of your icons are thematically right. Feels like something they could implement pretty easily based on icon colors, but they haven't bothered.

The Pixel Launcher has gotten way better vs. at launch, though. If the phone rolled out today, I probably would have stuck with it. At the very least, At a Glance works as advertised now. It's tough not to notice how much better looking Nova can make things, though. By default, the Pixel launcher only sizes icons and object in a certain way. If you use the zoom functions to make things a little larger, everything gets bigger. It makes text get cut off and it generally looks sloppy or like someone with bad eyesight set it up. Nova lets you control icon sizes, grid arrays, etc. to maximize your space without having tiny icons. Plus, since the At a Glance widget has all the Google stuff baked in, you don't lose any functionality. I don't know if I'll leave Nova even with future Pixel revisions. They'll have to deviate in such a way that I have to. Either that or the At a Glance widget would have to be killed off. I like the way it works, so I'd go wherever it goes.

Anyone agree with this article? I will say my 6 Pro network connection is poor a lot of times. Was wondering if it's T-Mobile in the Chicago area? But maybe it's the phone hardware?
Yup. My pixel 3 worked great, swapped for the 6 and same areas that the 3 worked in, the 6 is trash. 5g only works in KC and everywhere else I have to manually set it to LTE. Data and phone service sucks even then.

Seriously considering going back to the 3

My normal 6 has been fine via Verizon. That's throughout the mountain states, but also when I've traveled to both coasts. Haven't been to Europe with it yet, though. The places where I've lost service have been the same places previous phones lost service, too. "5G" means basically nothing, though. The 5G speeds are no different than what LTE used to pull in the same spots. I'm half convinced it's kinda like the iPhone just renaming 3G to 4G back in the day.

I still haven't figured out how to turn off 5g with out turning the battery saver on. That's more of an android 12 frustration than hardware.

I bought the Pixel 5A a week ago. I almost got the Pixel 6, but the fingerprint reader issues was a deal breaker for me.

While using the 5A, I swiped to the news feed screen and an article headlined "Right now is the worst time you can buy a Pixel phone". I tapped on the article and the reasons why you should wait to buy a new pixel was that the 6A and 7 are about to be released, which means a price drop should follow.

I initiated a return on my Pixel 5A and just got home from FedEx.

I also want to use the Titan M2 security features that are built in the Pixel 6 models and beyond. I just bought the Titan USB C security key for my desktop PC too.

I'm probably going to get a 6A.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the 6's once the 7's hit the market. The 5's got tough to find around the time of the 6 announcement. I was initially thinking of getting one, but Google yanked them off their store completely. Places like Amazon and Best Buy were selling them at the initial MSRP even though they had been going for several hundred bucks less. There's a deal on a 6 and you're not set on a 7, it might be worth buying sooner than later. Then again, the world of tech gadgets was pretty different in 2020/21 vs. other years, too.

The 6's FP reader issue is blown out of proportion now but agree don't buy any new Pixel phone for full price ATM. Let the dust settle with the 6A and 7's

Honestly Swappa will be best place to get a used previous gen Pixel if thats what your after. The 6A at 450$ if the match the 5A will be a steal brand new, but I would rather have a mint used 6 for the same price. Better camera and screen plus wireless charging.

What reader issues are those? If I believe the quick google search I did, the phone is basically the worst of all time and it will take your daughter out and go dutch.

I've noticed it's slow, and isn't as responsive as the pixel 2 XL I had before (reference fingerprint).

It might be a tad slow but imo it works. I miss the rear fingerprint reader for sure but it's not a deal breaker

The P6/6 Pro fingerprint scanner was pretty bad at launch. After several software updates it now performs much better. It's still a bit slow, but I rarely need to tap it more than once, now. I still strongly prefer a hardware scanner on the back like my P3XL. Aside from the scanner, I think the P6 is an excellent phone and superior to my P3XL in every way.

My fingerprint reader has actually gotten worse with recent updates, but I don't need to use it 90% of the time. I keep my phone unlocked at home, at work, while jogging, and in the car via Smart Lock. That really only leaves a handful of scenarios when I have to even use it.

The July security update is rolling out - just click "update" and it should start downloading. I don't think this one adds any functionality, but you never know.

At 500$ the 6 is a solid device and worth it over the 6a. The only benefit I see is the improved FP sensor but at the cost of no wireless charging and older legacy sensor.

I tried to finance the phone @ $20 a month, but the process kept fucking up. I went through the credit check process in the browser popup windows. The Play Store kept adding to cart at full price. I didn't have any problems when signing up to finance the Pixel 5A. Now my credit card has a pending charge of $500 and I tried to finance it again and the Play Store cart still tried to charge me the full price. I cancelled the purchase. Fucking Annoying.

So it took this long for Google to release this stupid 6a. Can they do better than that? So many corners cut on that 6a, I don't really see a point, but maybe Google does..
