Photochop Gawds, posers, people alike! $10 for best banner.

Then why are you trying to justify it to me? I don't care if you want to do a banner for nothing. I said that I , as in ME, thought it was bs. People want something for nothing, especially when it pertains to artwork, and I find that annoying is all...that's my opinion.
you are entitled to your opinon, i respect that. but i dont respect the fact that you had to result into flaming and a childish thing like mocking the whole thread with a banner that looks like it was made in ms paint.

you were right about the copyright'd fonts, but i said that first.

other than that, don't be jealous just cause some high school kid learned how to use photoshop and is willing to work for free just because he has no need to put his own food on his plate and would be honored to have his creation displayed somewhere, anywhere.

So chill out.

but as I was saying and was mentioned on the first page of this, you'll have to be very careful about the origins of the artwork and fonts since this will be for some organization.

and although some of you may not like his logo, maybe his organization does... maybe they paid to have that designed some time ago and like it, or maybe it has recognition and changing it would be a bad idea. Either way he asked for a banner not a new logo or some rant about the ethics of generous, bored artists.

Jealous? Of what? Wth are you talking about? I said I don't like it when people try to get artwork for their business, website, or other type of promotion, for nothing. He's taking advantage of other people's kindness IMO. My original post had nothing to do with anyone who has submitted a banner...it was directed to the starter of this thread. Please get a clue.

Then you say "Either way he asked for a banner not a new logo or some rant about the ethics of generous, bored artists." You're not talking about ethics? Copyright infringement (using non-commercial fonts) doesn't fall under the ethics category? You're not even putting together a coherent response.

My response was plenty coherent, nothing said it was all directed at you. And on that note, i'm done with this side chat, I wouldn't consider it productive in any sense.

Relax people, here's another try:

It doesn't matter if it was directed all at me...you still contradict yourself, therefore my opinion that your statement was incoherent is based in fact. You make accusations of me being jealous of something (I have no idea of what you think I am jealous of, and you never clarified yourself) then when I attempt to get clarification on you're ramblings, you say you're done with this side chat, which further adds to the incoherence of your post. Anyway, I'm done with this side chat as well. Noone can take a joke apparently. I thought my banner was funny. Made me laugh anyway, and in the end that's all that matters.

quit making this a pointless thread ... submit your artwork if you want. dont submit if you dont. this flaming and thread jacking is getting old .... quick. copyrights have nothing to do with you so send a polite PM of consideration to the thread starter as i can see your life depends on looking out for this guy while modestly standing back as an awestrucken harmed individual because someone reguarded your comment as truthfully arrogant.

my submission will be here shortly. im not in it for the money, recognition and self pride still exists in some people today. then again ... some people are all for communism and none for socialism ..... move to china and then repost your message if you want me to acknowledge it.

a little more professional animation?...

using The_Tooth's much improved logo...Hope that was ok.

To whomever was requesting these submissions, I would personally suggest that you try out Photoshop yourself. With just a couple hours of do-it-yourself learning, you could be making banners that are just as good as any of the submissions you've received. In addition, you'll find that even elementary skills in Photoshop come in handy very often. Trust me, I've been there.

If you can't afford Photoshop, it's pretty easy to download a free 30-day trial or even the full version. If you were planning on using artwork submitted by a stranger as your official banner, one little download could end up being the least of your legal problems anyway. ;)

Nasa/Govt peeps? And you're offering $10? How generous...I think you're pretty lucky to get anything period. I hate these threads where someone comes in offering basically nothing for artwork...as if a graphic artist does what they do just for fun. Offering $10 is an insult IMO. Stop being a cheapskate, and pay a professional to do your artwork...I'm sure you have some type of budget and I find it hard to believe $10 breaks said budget.

Also, you'd be doing yourself a huge favor if you read up on current copyright laws. It seems you haven't even taken that into consideration. Most of the submissions I've seen use fonts that are NOT free for commercial use. Who knows where they got the pictures they're using. Everything is copyrighted from the moment of "creation" whether or not it has a copyright symbol on it.

Also, if you're going to have a new logo made...why use that logo you already have? It looks like shit. The text isn't even lined up/centered on the top. It looks 2nd rate to say the best, but if you're offering $10 here for a new logo then I see why.

Here's what $10 gets you from me: check it.

Are you a jackass or something? Most of the people who made these images would have done it for free. If you think $10 is not enough payment then don't post your logo and keep your comments to yourself. Although you do make a valid point on copyrights for both fonts and the backround images used. If you read the thread you will see the vtrac is concerned aswell and this was already said.

I just wanted to point out that you should be careful as to what you use as a background picture in these logos. I'm assuming that the background picture for this logo was taken off the web somewhere and copyright owner of that photograph wasn't asked for permission. As a photographer, I consider these things. I also don't want ARIM getting in trouble in the future when the photog sees that, and sues for copyright infringements.

Yes but, then isn't that illegal as well.

Welcome to ignore, fagtard. My opinion: I'm paying for this out of my pocket. ARIM, is not paying a cent. It's a reward for those who I (we) feel can do the best work. For those who like to show off their talent/skills for the rest, and get a little something for doing a DAMN fine job.

You don't like it, move to Canada.

As for copyright, I'll deal with that when we get there. There is no "commercial" use here. We're a non-profit group in ACD, and organization of a Government Research group. There is no commercial gain involved at all, so there is no worry about copyright under the current interpretation of the law when it comes to the internet. You can get off your high horse now, he's ugly.

AND be credited for it. I WILL credit the creator, ON the front page of the new site, with the image/logo work. If having your name on the front page of a group in one of the largest research groups in the world, as well as $10, isn't enough, then sorry. It's the best I can do.

Thank you ALL for the wonderful submissions! They're INCREDIBLE. Really! You should all be very proud for your hard work and good jobs!

Nice! Added to the list (it's growing too much!)

I've done a fair bit of photoediting, but never really graphic design, it's mostly with cleaning up pictures of people.

In that regard I was wondering if some of the people who have made submissions would mind, not necessarily a tutorial, but kinda going over the techniques used? I think that would be appreciated by more than me if anyone was willing.

Lopo, that's a really good point about the non-profit use, I had forgotten about that. Thanks for clearing it up :)

Nothing commercial? That's funny...I could have sworn you offered the winner ten dollars. I love how I'm told to move to China or other parts of the world, suggesting I'm Communist I guess? But the funny thing is, I express my opinion, use my right of free speach, and you can't handle it. I'm assuming the people telling me to do that are you're run of the mill arrogant Americans, who parade free speach and the right to say whatever you want until it offends them. I expressed my opinion, that's all. I'm not moving anywhere, but thanks for the suggestion.

It's SPEECH. Looks like a mistake a communist would make to me...

Dude just get the hell out of here. You seriously need to relax and take life A LOT less seriously.

After seeing all of the great stuff here, I decided to dig through my camera's pictures, but I had no good pics of the sky to use, so I thought: why not use the moon? :p

BTW, I have a full 3.34mp version of the moon image if anyone feels like they want to print something out of this world for kicks -- for now they're <DEAD>. Tell me how it goes :)

Edit2: The moon pic used in the logo exists on my new gallery. I'd suggest a search for "moon" but with how my senior year might go I think I'll just point to the correct pic to be safe... http://photos.timaxe.com/outdoors/DSCN5165

Edit: Got the spelling fixed now...although nobody mentioned mine... :p

Hmmm, I am contemplating closing this thread ... just sad that some people actually
delivered some sterling work! Thank you to those who tried to 'moderate' the thread in my
absence, your names have been noted. ;)

I like schr3pF, Jackalope and cuemasterfl's work ... the latter is my favourite sans the
utterly hideous logo (over which I assume we have no control).

Speaking of fonts. I assume any font I have on my system, that were installed along with software I own (Office 2003, etc) is ok to use. I don't go downloading fonts from the web, so I should be ok in that respect.

i can take that primary news source out if u want .... im too lazy to repost another pic w/o the text :D
