PG32UQX - ASUS 32" 4K 144 Hz HDR1400 G-Sync Ultimate

So..... does this new monitor have the same POS fan the PG27UQ had? I have had my PG27UQ for a little over a year now and that cheap fan rattles like crazy now in lower speed. Sometimes it will not run at all and the monitor will shutoff after about 15 minutes thinking it's overheating. After a power cycle, I am good again, but not sure how long that trick will work.

My monitor has the same defect, and you can only see it by deactivating the fald on dark screen, so with fald active, which I use practically all the time, it is not noticeable
The blooming also for me is worse than my previous x27p, I could have sent it back but I decided to keep it because I would like to try this following strategy, tell me what you think
Since Asus covers 3 years of warranty, what if I in 2 1/2 years, write and point out the defect?

Will they be forced to replace the panel, but since it is very rare could it happen that you are compensated? Telephoning Asus have assured me that the panel will be replaced or will be given a superior model, I continue to be skeptical that in 2 and a half years this solution will be so trivial.

What do you think?

70 percent?? I would imagine the real number is probably below 5 percent but that is just subjective.

The Gsync module does have a fan, although I am not sure if it is the same brand of fan as I have not had this panel or the 27uq apart. Just like my 27 inch version, the fan is imperceptible on the 32uqx. I do not have the quietest system in the world though so my AIO fans drown out any noise the monitor fans would make.

I mean, I do not hear it gaming, but when working from home, its very much annoying unless I play music while I work (which i normally do). My main concern is if it is rattling this bad after a year of 10 hours a day of use; how long till it dies and my monitor refuses to work. I have seen a video of taking this thing apart, and it baffles me they put such a cheap ass fan in such an expensive monitor. At the very least, give us an access port to replace the damn fan if it's going to die. Minus the crap fan, I love the PG27UQ monitor and have my eyes on the PG32UQX.
 
The fan on this monitor is 500x better than the PG27UQ. I could not hear this monitors fan under any conditions unless I put my head behind the display so they've greatly improved it. Pretty sure that one review complaining about fan noise was a early sample or was busted because the fan on this is a total no issue.

The PG27UQ in comparison sounds like a laptop that ramps up and down and is super annoying.

Yeah, this is why i've decided to just stick with my X27 until we've got better technology.
 
This is one of the best monitors i've used visually but I think i'll go back to my PG279Q and grab the M model coming out this year.

Otherwise to come back on the PG32UQX, I received my second screen and this time I did not fall on a defective model. However, it has BLB again and a small light leak on the upper left side.

The BLB seems to be less intense than on my old model. On a picture it's still ugly but it looks much better because I can hardly see the yellow glow caused by the BLB and only on a totally black background with FALD off. Whereas before even FALD ON when the zone was not totally off the halo was yellow and not white.

So I prefer to keep it despite the small leak of light because this time it is totally usable FALD Off in the worst case.

So.. just received my 3rd panel. I was initially excited when I saw there was no pressure mark on the upper right corner like my first two had! My excitement quickly faded when I noticed this one has the same cluster of tiny pin-head (red) sized pixels lit up in various areas of the screen. The gray uniformity is also really bad on this one.

I'm having a hard time finding anyone else who has noticed the tiny grid of red pixels like I've had on my last two panels. Does anyone else notice anything like this on theirs?

Synopsis: 1st panel from Microcenter - pressure spot upper right corner
2nd panel from amazon - pressure spot upper right corner. Permanently lit clusters of red pixels in various areas.
3rd panel from amazon - Permanently lit clusters of red pixels. Bad gray uniformity.

Poor quality photo.. but atleast you can see the grid. In person most of those pixels are reddish.

A shame that your still having issues with getting a good Monitor. I have seen a few people on here have to go through multiple monitors in order to get a good sample.
 
I know people have mentioned the yellow spots but does anyone have yellow color distortion in random spots on grey backgrounds with the fald enabled? I didn't notice it when I first got this monitor but it appears to be getting worse or I am just noticing it more. These forums for example on the home screen I have giant yellow bars down the center of my screen with the fald on in settings 2 and 3. If I disable the fald they go away and it darkens and looks uniform. If I move my mouse cursor near them with the fald on they will also dim and disappear and all I see is the normal mouse halo. I know desktop is not optimal for fald but I have started to notice it in games at times also now that I am looking for it but it's just not as severe of an effect.

It doesn't always appear in the same spot but I almost always have yellow distortion somewhere on a dark grey background. I've included a screen shot to show what I am referring to. Anyone else seeing a similar issue?

Can't say I noticed yellowing like that on desktop or in games, but I recently returned so I can't compare.

I Have not seen anything like this at all. This looks like a defect in the FALD backlight.

I have the exact same thing, it's funny, I just noticed yesterday and I see Hypez post today...

It's some kind of yellow ghost reflection created when bright elements are included on a grey background a certain distance away on the vertical and/or horizontal axis.
It's also extremely symmetrical. I changed the monitor view to Landscape (flipped) instead of Landscape and the exact yellow reflection appeared on the exact opposide side of the screen.
See attached pictures. So I don't believe it is a defect, it's one of this monitor's many idiosyncrasies...

I can confirm that on my panel this does not happen which is why it leaded me to believe this is a defect. Grey should be Grey. Unless your bringing the mouse cursor through revealing the backlight "bloom" trail as it passes, the color should be consistent. If your still in the return window, I would absolutely try and get a replacement. At this price point, you should not except anything less then a perfect panel.

I have the same giant yellow pillar that looks exactly the same as what you are seeing for the picture on that link.

You are also correct it is 100% symmetrical a few inches off of a bright object on a grey background where it occurs. I can now replicate it in every scenario I have tried.

I can even cause it to occur off of the OSD. While on a grey background (default firefox screen works) if you > open the OSD > turn the fald off > set it to max brightness > close the OSD > re-open the OSD so it's at max brightness > turn fald 3 on > turn brightness to 0 you should have massive bright yellow reflection symmetrical to the OSD on an almost black background. Once you close the OSD it will disappear because the bright source object is removed.

The way this operates it almost appears to be a error in algorithm for the fald because on a black background with a bright object it functions perfect. It's only in a greyish color with a bright object it fails to dim and almost causes an IPS glow sort of effect a few inches away.

However if only a few of us are experiencing it then I am just going to assume we can add another known potential defect to this batch of monitors. Thankfully I still have 6 days on my Amazon return so it will be going back this week.

That is good news. I really hope that is something that can be ironed out eventually in a firmware update.

I'm with you on the price point. It's odd however that two users get the exact same "defect" on different parts of the panel, unless this is a manufacturing design issue which should affect all users.

Are you sure you cannot replicate? You need to scroll slowly to that specific post with the images to the left to see it and it will show only at a specific point.
You could scroll past it without noticing.

I would gladly RMA the monitor if I was certain to get a better panel.
But at the same time if it is only to get a worse unit I will pass.
I am very happy with uniformity, no dead pixels, no bright spots.
Therefore I am not so keen to go through all the hassle of RMA'ing only to discover that all units suffer from this as, aside from these FALD idiosyncrasies, I am quite impressed with picture quality.

I am not so sure. If you are not experiencing the issue it might just be the fald is faulty on a select few monitors. Like I said mine appears to be getting worse or I just notice it more not sure but I am send it it back because of the price point. Now that I know it's there it's annoying the hell out of me.

Can you try the OSD scenario I listed and let me know if you can see it? That is the most intense effect of the issue I have been able to get it to show otherwise it varies in intensity but it is typically always there.

Make sure you OSD is centered and default size (forgot if you can change size)
1) Go to a dark grey solid background the default firefox page works
2) Turn the fald off and raise brightness to 100
3) close the OSD and re-open so it's at peak brightness
4) Turn FALD to level 3
5) lower brightness to 0
6) the screen should be extremely dim except for the OSD and the yellow glow on the edges of the panel if you have the issue

*edit* re-listed the steps I took so it's a little more clear.

Not convinced that only some units have this issue.
Stuck leds and bright spots in random places (or even recurring at weak points) are one thing, this looks like a design issue.

It really feels like it to me. I cannot think what could possibly cause this behaviour in some units and not others unless they have used completely different components or something.
Since I have limited time to dance the RMA dance only to find myself in a worse position than I am now, I will just keep an eye out for the time being, in any event I am outside the return or DOA period.
And frankly I still prefer this monitor to everything else at the moment.

ok, and here is ASUS support response when I sent them one of the attachments with the yellow reflections:

in relation to the request I inform you that since it is an ips type screen it is normal that there is some blooming or banding in the white writings, it is intrinsic in the construction technology.

Asus support is borderline useless. I am also in their Facebook DIY group and sometimes they fail to even address issues there that are abundant and supported by multiple users with evidence. Luckily we are still in the early stages of this monitors life and we all have a warranty. I am hoping though that there is some way many of these issues can be addressed with firmware. If you guys haven't already, connect your monitor to the PC with the supplied USB cable and update it in armory crate. There have been multiple HAL, HTML and Device DSK updates since launch.

Nope. When you're in it for 3500 bucks you tend to cover that sort of thing as a first resort, to make sure you're getting your full money's worth.

I could have sworn though I saw the same issue in the reviewer's unit in the youtube video of the review referenced by DarkSideA8, when he was showing a section where he was on twitter:

I went ahead and tested this and as I expected, there is no issue with my panel. I guess I got lucky and hit the panel lottery. Uniformity is also really good, the brighter patches in the pick are just reflection from my TV behind me for the most part.

Thanks for testing. Just to confirm you saw nothing with the OSD on screen at zero brightness with fald at 3??
 
Been keeping a close eye on this thread since I was thinking of stepping out of my OLED comfort zone. This is the only monitor I would consider outside a newer 48" OLED.

Probably the most problematic/RMA'd monitor release I've seen in over 15 years on this forum and many others. The same demographic of people who are serious enough to buy a 3K gaming monitor are the same people that will RMA a monitor with just a simple hint on dead/stuck pixels, dust behind the glass, minimal shipping damage, backlight bleed, defects, etc. (I'm one of them). This thing is gonna be vaporware shortly after release just like that first Dell 30" OLED monitor.

Come back to the dark side people...(pun intended) :D

I do feel that this monitor might have a higher then normal RMA or return rate, but that is not based on any data. Asus has a pretty great reputation when it comes to monitors. Funny you mention OLED, I do have a C7 and it is a pretty awesome display. The 32UqX blows it out of the water though when it comes to brightness and overall immersion while gaming. Blacks are very close as well, in fact like I have mentioned before in the thread, some cases the dark level detail on the 32UqX is superior.

Probably the most problematic/RMA'd monitor release I've seen in over 15 years on this forum and many others. The same demographic of people who are serious enough to buy a 3K gaming monitor are the same people that will RMA a monitor with just a simple hint on dead/stuck pixels, dust behind the glass, minimal shipping damage, backlight bleed, defects, etc. (I'm one of them). This thing is gonna be vaporware shortly after release just like that first Dell 30" OLED monitor.

Come back to the dark side people...(pun intended) :D

The apparent amount of problems with this release and that there has been little to no information on the Acer and Viewsonic equivalents does hint that this panel / mini led combo was riddled with development problems from the start. I wouldn't be surprised if they axed their version of the product all together and Asus just decided to throw the darts and hope it sells enough to re-coupe development costs even knowing it will probably have a higher then average return rate. Like you said this panel will probably be phased out pretty quickly with better mini led tech on a faster IPS or VA panel over the next couple years.
 
Finally got around to checking out a lg c1. claims were that this was better because it got brighter. I found that I was reducing the brightness on the c1 so I definitely woudn't benefit from that.
Another issue people had was reflections and Even with it facing a window during the day, I'm fine. I suppose if screens got dark enough it would show more.

I wouldn't bother with this at the price. I'd rather wait for an OLED monitor with high refresh rate. A major downside with the 48" c1 is the size. it seems bigger than I expected it to be.
 
I just spent some time with a friend's 50" QN90A which is also mini LED but only has 448 zones. What's crazy is that it's FALD/blooming is literally night and day better than this monitor even though it's significantly larger and has basically half the zone count.

Goes to show you just how far a good local dimming algorithm can take a display and is IMO the biggest thing holding back the PG32.
