If you disable the variable backlight and pull up a dark grey or black background, can you see what looks like a faint orange pressure mark around the size of a pencil eraser on the upper right quadrant of the panel?

All three of mine have had this issue in exactly the same place, with my first one having two additional points on the lower left.

For what it’s worth all three monitors were manufactured in April. At this point I’m actually starting to think that almost all of them have this issue.

Would someone be daring enough to check their monitor for me please? ;)

My first one was indeed from MC and had the pressure spot on upper right. My 2nd one that I still currently have is from Amazon and also has the same spot in upper right but it’s not orange, is easiest seen with fald on, and is impossible to find during actual use. It’s actually easiest to see when booting up the display when the asus symbol lights up the screen. I’ve debated keeping this one since the spot is so hard to find but not sure.. Is it worth another return? I dunno at this point..
 
Anyone with an Acer X27 or the same Asus monitor that can give a comparison?

I assume this one is substantially better for HDR given that the local dimming zones have more than tripled.

Does this one have a noisy fan? Etc.

You should. For the asking price, this monitor should have zero issues. It's because consumers overlook these type of defects is why these monitor manufacturers continue to have shitty QC on monitors.

I had the PG27UQ before the PG32UQX. The 32UQX has a imperceptible fan just like my 27uq had. HDR is night and day difference between the two. The only downside with this monitor is that blooming is more noticeable in some scenarios, but overall the blacks and contrast is a big step up when compared to the 27 inch models. I do hope that the overly aggressive FALD algorithm can be tweaked with a firmware update to combat the bloom, but it is something you have to go out of your way to notice, so therefore not a deal breaker by any stretch.

Why even include a monitor stand?
You guys don't need a stand for your monitor, come on, you'll buy your own or a mount anyway.

Why include HDMI/DP cables with the monitor?
You guys are gonna buy your own anyway.

Why include a monitor status LED?
You guys know when your monitor is on/off anyway.

Why include 3 HDMI ports?
You guys will buy a splitter anyway.

Why include a downstream USB port?
You guys won't cable USB through your monitor anyway.

Why include a OLED utility screen nobody asked for?
Ok I don't have a cheeky answer for this one.

If Asus is trying to save $$$, let's just have them cut all of the above, might save a couple hundred $$$.

Im more pissy that it only has ONE display port...that is fuckin GHEY as some of us have more than one computer they like to use.

Speakers in monitors.....well...I remember a time....a time called CRT, where the monitors were bigger than fuckin dinosaurs and internal speakers were taboo

Maybe you should go and make a thread dedicated to integrated speakers, if it's that important to you. I don't think it's helpful to devote so much space to talking about speakers in a thread for a monitor that doesn't have speakers.

lol I also like the FPS counter and that's what I'm using the screen for too but I can also do an FPS overlay, so meh?
It would be cool if the monitor nailed literally everything else assuming it were only like a $20-$50 add 😂

I'd def understand the speaker argument if it tripled the monitor size, every monitor I've had with built in speakers since 2012 have been slim AF though.

I had this issue over the weekend where my Bluetooth audio from my 3.5mm -> BT transmitter was super low.
Like, some sounds were normal but voice was whisper quiet.

Eventually, I turned the 3.5mm plug in the back of the monitor about 90deg and the sound went back to normal.

I love 3.5mm

The FI32U has internal speakers....you should consider it...it does everything the PG32 can do, yet nothing like the PG32 be do!

You know, I momentarily considered it, but HDR400? Blehhhhhhhhhhhh

I really like the pg32uqx pq, I don't notice the blooming as much as I thought I would either.

The sound thing just left a bitter taste in my mouth since it's avoidable and is a PITA for my setup.
 
I’m curious are most of you turning fald off for sdr content like the tftcentral review recommends? Or do you just keep it on all the time and if so does it seem to make much of a difference in sdr games? I’ve only been using fald for hdr content to this point.

FALD is off on my SDR desktop. I use a lot of dark themes and it's way too distracting with it on.

without FALD you lose all powers, no more contrast and monitor become a simple monitor.
 
Yes the blooming is terrible on any SDR/desktop solid dark colors/earthtones.
 
Just picked up this badboy. Contrast settings and many others are greyed out. How do I make setting more accessible?
 
I tried it both ways but couldn't get contrast or brightness ungreyed out HDR off/on in windows

Thanks celwin for recommending I return my 2nd defective unit. I was considering keeping it since the pressure mark on upper right was really faint and almost indiscernible. This prompted me to do some more in-depth testing and I think I figured out how to best assess for a defective unit.

Change desktop to black background, hide all desktop icons, hide taskbar. Turn off HDR, change variable backlight (FALD) to level 1 which makes blooming most evident. Turn off the lights in the room and close the shades. Then slowly move the mouse cursor across the screen left to right.

Within the blooming next to the cursor I could see the round pressure mark. I also discovered a patch of permanently lit tiny red pixels in a cluster toward the middle-left side of the screen. I think these are blown mini-LEDs. These manifested while playing AC Valhalla one time and looked like tiny black spots but don’t show up during dead pixel testing.

This panel is now on a truck going back to Amazon. My 3rd one should arrive later this upcoming week. I’m hoping it was manufactured later than the first batch.

I'm interested in getting this monitor and have been reading the thread. So it seems there are a lot of faulty units. Where do you guys recommend ordering this from? I wouldn't mind if it's backordered and can definitely wait even a few months.

Hi everyone!



First of all, sorry for my bad English it's not my native language. I received my screen two days ago bought in Switzerland and I also fell on a defective slab.

In addition, my panel has a lot of BLB. This is unacceptable for a screen at this price. I am also very disappointed by the blooming. For me it's much more visible than on my old screens. (PG27UQ and PG35VQ). I am really surprised to see all the reviews saying that there is much less blooming than on the two older models. It is also possible on my screen that the BLB also causes a little more blooming.

What is strange is that on a lot of review videos it is very complicated to determine the blooming while on a lot of user videos it is very present and it is also present on my screen.

I am very hesitant to return the screen and get a refund. Is there so much blooming on all the panels? Or is there really a defective series as Asus apparently told this user? (By launching the game with the steam command "-deependark" the blooming is almost not visible anymore but it's still very bad on many other games).

For me the biggest flaw of this miniLED panel is indirectly caused by its biggest strength. It's the number of backlight zones! On the PG27UQ and PG35VQ which have less. To display for example a starry sky on the PG27UQ, a zone will display several stars, the contrast of the scene will be globally less good but the blooming will not be or very little visible. With 1152 zones on the PG32UQX, each zone will display its star, so the blooming is really more visible. But this is also true in many other scenes and for me, all screens have the same problems. What do you think about it ?

Is that a yellow pressure point in the that picture on the top right or a stuck bright pixel? You might have the same issue a lot of users have been reporting with this panel. It's interesting while I don't have the yellow pressure mark or blown mini led's that a lot of users are reporting I have a single bright/stuck blue pixel in almost the exact same spot you have your dot.

I have very little back light bleed or IPS glow tested with FALD disabled and high brightness on a dark background. I actually find mine to be one of the better IPS panels I have seen or owned when it comes to that. I have similar results a lot of the youtube reviews did when they showed their back light bleed examples and gave props to it.

As far as blooming goes in games I have found that you will have to adjust settings on a per game basis to really get the optimal experience. FALD 2 typically is the best with contrast between 50-60 and dark level boost at 1 that I can see. However some games I have found look better with FALD 3 and a different dark level boost to minimize haloing. You also have to make sure you adjust the in game HDR settings properly as well. I have found going a little brighter then when the "symbol disappears" seems to help in most cases at least to my eyes anyway.

It seems like some of these youtube videos popping are making the haloing worse on purpose. I am not sure if they are generally trolling, have faulty displays or are just uneducated on what ideal settings they should be using. I tested RE8 in the same spot as the recent youtube videos and mine looks nothing close to as bad as that video shows.

Generally I don't find haloing noticeable roughly 90% of the time when gaming. However that 10% of the time when it does pop it is really bad and disappointing. It also always seems to be when I would least expect it based on the scene. For example in ME2 in the Legendary edition the small lights on the ship against the dark backgrounds look great with no haloing and excellent contrast. Then I will hit a scene that's semi dark / grey and Shepards armor in a cut scene takes up 1/6 of the screen and I will have a giant halo over and around the entire armor piece and I am like WTF really?

I am really hoping Asus can fix the haloing a little bit with a firmware update because it seems to be really bad in just very specific color gradient lighting conditions but I assume it's just the limitation of the tech unfortunately.

The backlight management is really one of the worst I've seen on a screen that uses this technology. Maybe the Acer Predator X32 or the ViewSonic Elite XG321UG will be better. After that I have little hope because finally, a computer screen only interprets what the computer sends it. I don't see how a firmware update could solve this problem.

I have also attached below a picture closer to the defect of my screen and also a picture of the blooming on The Witcher 3 in SDR.

This monitor has significantly worse blooming than it's smaller predecessor. Anyone who thinks otherwise is blind but also read the prior pages and make sure you're not on the fastest FALD mode which is way too aggressive.

TBH nobody should consider purchasing this display unless you are OK with FALD/blooming. Buying it and than being shocked that LED zones emit light against a darker surrounding is kind of absurd. It's just where we are technology wise.
 
I have taken note of the previous comments regarding the adjustments to be made. I have tried several things myself but nothing works with my current screen.

I sent it back this morning and hope to receive the replacement model again this week. I am still hopeful that a panel with less BLB may produce less blooming. I obviously knew what to expect when I ordered this screen but I didn't expect such a bad result as this

One thing is for sure, there is really a problem with the reviews currently available. Maybe Asus gives precise instructions on what can or cannot be said...

There is a lot more to it then "the monitor just interpreting what the computer sends" like you stated in your post. The firmware could absolutely be updated in order to adjust the aggressiveness of the FALD algorithm. On a firmware level, this would be done with voltage adjustments at the PCB level most likely. Do I think Asus will release an update like that? I would think not as blooming in an unfortunate side effect of FALD tech. Of course there is also the possibility that the speed to which the mini leds can turn off is already maxed and that this is actually a hardware based limitation. If thats the case, no firmware update could fix this "issue."

I just can't understand, how it is possible, that on a monitor of such magnitude, including mine, and of many users that I read around the web, there are those huge "burned" points.
really can not imagine how sleazy is the quality control service of this company, and I can not understand in the installation phase what they used to produce that defect on a 70% of these monitors

My monitor has the same defect, and you can only see it by deactivating the fald on dark screen, so with fald active, which I use practically all the time, it is not noticeable
The blooming also for me is worse than my previous x27p, I could have sent it back but I decided to keep it because I would like to try this following strategy, tell me what you think
Since Asus covers 3 years of warranty, what if I in 2 1/2 years, write and point out the defect?

Will they be forced to replace the panel, but since it is very rare could it happen that you are compensated? Telephoning Asus have assured me that the panel will be replaced or will be given a superior model, I continue to be skeptical that in 2 and a half years this solution will be so trivial.

What do you think?
