I know a lot of people who've been having this power button defect problem with the i3, i4 and i5 is even worse. Apple really needs to fix this problem once and for all.

Added edit: Everybody should sign the petition and complain to Apple to fix the problem:
I discovered all of this because my kid has a used i3 a friend gave to him after my buddy upgraded to the i5. The power button was a constant problem and stopped working completely so, he can never turn it off. He just has to keep charging it. So, we were checking into upgrading to the i5c and I was talking about this to a different friend who said his own i5 power button had broken down. I checked into it further by calling my local cell phone repair store and asked them about the issue. Their experience with the power button problem is that this issue has actually gotten worse with the i5. For some, the "Assistive Touch" is helpful but, it's not available on the i3 OS (I don't know about the i4 - if somebody knows please post here), so, there's nothing you can do except pay an outrageous amount to replace the entire power button mechanism only to have it die on you again or buy a new outrageously over-priced iphone only to have it break down even faster.
These are horrendous options for such an expensive iphone from a multi-billionaire company like Apple.
Apple needs to provide something similar to a Windows start button to easily allow people to turn on and off without using any cheap buttons that are almost guaranteed to break down on you just after your warranty expires, of course - how perfect for Apple, huhh. These iphones are too outrageously expensive for something as simple as the power button to break down so easily. A button on the face of the phone we can simply hold down for a few seconds would be a great way to turn on & off. A complete re-design of the power button is in order or boycott Apple and the iphone until it gets fixed.
These iphones aren't even worth $50 let alone the $700 they charge.

Hi, I would like to see Apple finally communicate with the public on the issue of the 'power button defect' and let us know what Apple plans to do about it. It is a serious issue and these iphones are WAY too expensive to keep having these issues over and over.
Also, please add "restart" to the "Assistive Touch" instead of just "power off" for those whose power buttons no longer work at all.
Take some responsibility here, Apple, and fix this issue once and for all. You have no excuse not to fix this problem.
