Penny Arcade The Bully?

Kotaku has an interesting editorial posted today that sure seems to blame Penny Arcade for bullying that poor, poor man from Ocean Marketting / Stratagy. Wait. What?!?

Krahulik did not back down from that a bit when I read it back to him and asked for a deeper explanation. "I have messed up, and I will definitely hurt myself if I think I can hurt someone else," he said. "I'm not defending that as a noble statement, I'm just being who I am." It's especially sad to consider that, for the millions who enjoy Penny Arcade, the thousands who attend its expos each year, and yes, I'll go here, because I've met them, the hundreds of sick children, many of them terminally so, given games and toys by its charitable foundation.

I dont know how ANYONE can defend that total Dbay in ANY WAY. He is getting 100% of what he earned. Nobody in PR should ever treat there customers like that, or threaten to run a smear campaign on another web page. Now the dirt bag is holding his former employers accounts as hostage for ransom!

Let's just forget about the part where the customer didn't get what he paid for and was being trampled like dirt for having the nerve to ask for what he paid for.

Penny Arcade had every right to stand up for their reader, especially considering the MARKETTING/STRATAGY guy name-dropped PAX while attempting to steam roll the guy.

Matter o' fact, imagine what would happen if one of you were being screwed over by a PR turd that was using the [H] name in the process of trying to screwing you? Yeah, that would go over well.

How exactly did Gabe "bate" this guy? He's the one that brought up PAX in the first place as part of his little name-dropping tyrade.

Kotaku is just trying to milk this story dry, and I really don't understand the people who have been defending the Ocean Marketing guy. "Sure Paul was being rude, BUT REALLY you have to admit that it's Dave's fault for not being nicer in the first place. And also Penny Arcade is to blame for some reason. Come on guys, let's look at this issue from BOTH sides." Sorry, but that is dumb. It's all pretty simple to me: Paul was an asshole and got what was coming to him. End of story.

This Kotaku guy is either trolling or he's friends with Christoforo. I don't even know what is worse.

Kotaku always tries these sensationalist articles, they are worse then Fox News.

Read the article, read everything you all posted that lead up to this. There is NO WAY that anyone from PA is in any way a "bully". I would probably have come down MUCH harder on Christoforo.

And anyone who in any way is siding with him or trying to justify his actions, read what he's trying to do now: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114994-Ocean-Marketing-Attempts-To-Extort-Former-Client

This Paul Christoforo is just digging a deeper and deeper hole for himself. Only now with an attempt to try to extort N-Control, might just be time to call in law enforcement. Would like to see how big a man he thinks he is when he's led away in handcuffs.

I don't want to give Kotaku any of my traffic so I'm not going to RTFA, but I'm not surprised that they would side with Christoforo. I bet that Brian Crecente wrote this article himself.

Well, I don't know this Owen Good guy but I can tell you that Brian Crecente is a 110% stand up guy. That said, this is an op/ed piece and this Owen guy is entitled to his opinion. Who knows, maybe stirring the pot was his intent all along and we all took the bait.

One thing is for sure. Ocean Marketting's name is MUD. Not just for the bad PR, but how he is treating his former client after the bad PR. He's washed up.

The only reason why Kotaku posted that story was to attract page hits by taking a contrary stance.

Journalistic trolling at it's finest.

Don't ask me how I know about trolling :p

I've never been able to take Kotaku serious because of their name. Makes me think I'm going to stumble onto some anime porn.

well thats why hes making threats now
he knows he will never get another job in any thing but cleaning bathrooms now

Ok, I'm pretty sure Kotaku is taking this event and milking it for what it's worth. Sheesh...

I think you meant to type

Kotaku always tries these sensationalist articles, they are worse then CBS, NBC, MicrosoftNBC, CNN, Associated Press, and Reuters.

Easy mistake to make. Anybody could do it.

I disagree with kotaku. It's about time someone stood up for the customer.

Customer service is dead.

Maybe Mike Krahulik should point his pointy stick at the writer instead for defending for one moment that Ocean dude.

It was good editorial. I actually read it.

It was spot on: everyone involved behaved as absolute childish asshats. Mike had the opportunity to take the high road. He did not. He behaved like a fucking thug.

Did you read the article? They defended no one. They condemned them all for being childish thuggish entitled ass-hats.

Needs more Bro. Oh, and, 4chan is calling you back.

The guy name dropped PAX, a show Mike co-runs. Mike had every right to jump in and say he would prevent the douchebag from having a booth at HIS show. Mike has never been known for being meek and mild about his opinions and he had every right to retaliate when he was verbally attacked. The ONLY person at fault is the douchebag from Ocean.

In this thread we discuss on article on accurate and irrelevant facts.

Not sure if you guys saw the other link I posted. But even today, Paul is still acting the part of the douchebag!

Man it sure seems like Kotaku has been going steadily downhill. I completely disagree with Owen Good. The only one at fault was Paul. That's it. No one forced him to behave in the manner he chose. Dave the customer had every right to be upset and Mike did not go overboard in my opinion. He was able to help and he did.

QFTMFT

It seems like customer service is long since a thing of the past. People just assume they have the next best thing and consumer's will bend over backwards for them. I've been dealing with a company for 4 months now over some BS. The Ocean Marketing dude started this shit with the way he treated the first customer and I'm fairly sure that customer wasn't the first. He was probably just the first to do something about it.

Yea really. Rereading those emails I give props to penny arcade for bringing this to light.

The moron who was angry is an idiot but the penny arcade guy who is begging to be hero worshipped for his valiant defending of the poor little guy while being all martyr-y. It's kind of weird how noone else seems to see it. They're all attention seeking annoyances. Really what did this guy do? All the "emails" are more about himself than the issue on hand.

You know I'll be fair and say that yeah Mike from Penny Arcade was a bit of a bully. But he was bullying a bully who had shown himself to be unwilling to even admit he was in the wrong. In my mind that makes PA the good guy in this case. Besides by the time Paul was actually willing to say, "I'm sorry I was being a douche" which in my opinion could have stopped this before it got anywhere, it was out there on the internet and gaining momentum every millisecond. As Mike said to the "please stop this request", there was no way he could, it was just too darn late by that point.

Too bad this point goes over some of you guys posting in this thread, but the entire point of the editorial wasn't to articulate the viewpoint of Owen Good, but it was to ATTRACT PAGE HITS to get more advertising revenue, and what better way to do it than to troll the Internet with an article that takes a contrary stance to the one the Internet has mobilized against?

Yeah . . . .

Where is Mike begging to be anything? He did the right thing by posting the information in full and letting people see a horrible example of customer service.

He's stroking his own ego the whole time. The crap about "id burn everything I own" is like some dumbass 12 year old. I bet when he was writing the whole thing he was imagining himself on a white horse. Oh and read what fail said too. It's all publicity crap under the guise of heroic actions so people worship this guy and his wonderous replying to one of the vast number of companies with bad customer service. This isn't some unsual incident, but he's spinning it into some epic for all the fan's.
