Personally I don’t get why dyson gets so much attention, I find their vacuums to be very on-par with the rest.

    Their battery stuff is cool

I'm not sure what position that Windows guy was put in but the sys admin roll has changed in the last few years with companies and people expecting to much out of that one position.
Everyone expects a Jack of all trades and a master of everything. They no longer want a specialist on specific subject with a little of cross training in-between. So that Cisco , Linux , Unix or windows admin has been pretty much pigeon holed into being an all in one admin.
You're better off having a group of specialist with some cross training than an all in one person mentally and physically stretched out all over the place.
BTW I see no problem with just MAC and Linux or a single OS but exceed 150 or 200 head count and at some point you have to bring in windows... I could be wrong :p

Replying from an iPad right now. It's what I use for basic web and YouTube all the time.

I got double laughs out of this, first from the post, second from the likes.

There are plenty of uses for tablets. You'll get a lot of heh heh he out of your comrades here simply because of the slice of the audience H commands is an echo chamber of your own small minded viewpoint. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

Let's play a game. It's called "When was the last time Dvorak was right about something?". It's really tough!

Wall St would love to see it because it frees up resource and allows more concentration on the parts that bring in 85% of the revenue.

Mac is a anchor as far as Wall Street is concerned.

e.g Dump something worth a $1 billion to make $2 billion.

    Yes it is that crazy.

I run a MacBook pro as my daily driver and have done so for years. If Apple would release a windows iMessage client I'd dump it in a second. There was a time that no windows laptop could compare to a MacBook but that time has long passed. That combined with the fact that Apple thinks a notebook with ONLY USB-C ports resembles anything even slightly "pro" just confirms the fact that they've completely lost touch with reality.

Please Apple, kill the Mac and allow your software services to be used from Windows.

Apple hasn't seemed to care about OSX for a while now. The desktop line gets a bump in specs every few years or so but the OS development has slowed down quite a bit. They have become a company that sells phones and occasionally a desktop and laptop. I was in an Apple store this weekend to kill some time and no one was looking at the desktops or laptops. Everyone was there for a phone or iPad. I asked one of the sales people if they sold many of them and she laughed, said most of the people in the store were there to get a phone fixed or buy a new one.

I can see Apple ditching x86 for their own ARM chip, tossing iOS on a desktop/laptop and modifying the interface a tad. Add an emulation layer so that people can transition to the new OS. They have done it before and will do it again. There is also nothing to stop them from selling a dock for your iPad Pro to make it into a desktop.

As for the development side of things, how hard would it be to toss some dev tools out on the iPad, have to have a pro and buy the app.

This is Apple, they don't care about what is best for the consumer, they care about what the consumer will buy and put up with.

iPads are dying fast. And iPads only outsell more expensive Macs by 2:1.

10.3m iPads, and 5.4m Macs sold in financial Q4 2017, straight from Apple.

I have to use a Mac for my line of work. I've gotten used to some of the quirks - but there are some parts that are not terrible. (I'd argue the same with any operating system - they all have issues.) But, I'll agree Apple doesn't seem to be doing much with macOS. I think it will be minor changes over time and nothing major. They consider it a mature platform and sales are not enough to justify spending too much on the platform.
My money is on them having macOS possibly move to ARM at some point using their custom processors.

Normal tablet functionality..nothing special at all. Just consumption of media and gps (google app). The iPad has just honestly given the best overall experience over all my android tablets and I've had everything from several Asus Transformers to samsung Galaxy's. It isn't saying they aren't good as they are perfectly fine. Just saying that the 16gb iPad air I've had from my company has just overall been better across the board, at least enough so to justify the little price difference. Which is rare for apple as almost none of their crap justifies its price premium imo.

My Wife had an iPad for about a month and tossed it. At her job, she carries a Samsung tablet everywhere. It is easier to use than her phone, especially when reviewing hospital construction plans. A phone is just too small.

She also has a laptop with docking station in her office, but she rarely needs to use it.

On the iPad, she concluded, "Biggest waste of money ever. Too many restrictions [I am paraphrasing this one as the list is long]. Too many compatibility problems."

Good thing a lot of people use Mac's for professional multimedia production... Only to be thrown to the curb, yet again...

It's your job, you should be a jack of all trades where anything IT related is concerned - Otherwise you're not a real tech.

This - I remember his arse from the late 80's when I lived in AZ. One of the main guys in my Amiga User group locked horns with him over some stupid remarks he published. Apparently, not much has changed...
