i have :
p4p800e-deluxe mobo
p4 prescott 2.8e
512 ddr400
ati 9800 pro 128mb

will these settings let me run far cry smoothly(above 45 fps)

i run mine with 3200+ and 1gb and 9800 pro at about 50-80fps at 1024 with all eye candy. 1280 makes it drop to about 35-45. so yeah

oh.. no aa/af

It's playable on a 5900nu at 800x600 w/ the eye candy up, 2xAA, 4xAF. Well, at least in SP. I'd have to drop the eye candy for MP. 1024x768 w/ the same settings is actually ok most of the time, but I get really bad framerate drops indoors due to NVs lousy PS 2.0 implementation. Of course Radeons do way better than 5000 series NV cards in Far Cry. Usually they gain FPS indoors. You'll be fine.
You could use a little more ram though. Far Cry will push mem usage up to about 800MB, so you'll swap & studder a bit once in a while.

lol course it will run fine on that system- if you turn down the eye candy it runs ok on virtually all systems . . . i was playing it fine on the xp1700, 512mb pc133 system in my sig (albeit with a gf4200ti 64mb until that died again- back to the radeon 7000 :() runs ok at 800x600, perfectly playable. So yeah, gonna work fine on that rig.

I ran it nicely on medium settings... I think I could have gone with higher settings if I had more RAM, on my system, p4 2.6ht 512 ddr ram and a 9700pro 128mb.

Still looked damn nice, tried it on highest settings, but it took so long for the gfx to smoothen out...

EDIT: oh yeah I was runnin 1024 x 768 :p

I ran the demo on a xp2200 with 512 of mem and a GF2 vid card, of course I didn't turn everything up, but it ran. I did take a while to load, but after that it was all right. I'm runing it on an A64 3200 now with 1 gig of mem and a 9800 pro vid card, and I can run everything at the highest with now problem.

medium @1024x768 on my 1600+/512pc2100/gf3-ti200 works reasonably well, slows a bit when you have huge view distances with lots of people. Happened maybe 3-4 times throughout the game.

man! this game is awesome
running smooth //
while indoors it stutters for just a second sometimes but the game runs very good
graphics and scenery are awesome
thanks for the reply's group!

what settings in the control panel of ATI are the best performance and graphics balance
for the game based on your settings
im running it at 1024 * 768
2X AA // 4X AF
performance oriented in the ATI control panel

??

One thing that helps a little is to run the same rez on your desktop as the game. If you run the game at 1024x768, set your desktop at the same rez. I sometimes disable AA and AF completely. Doing so may allow you to run a higher rez. It depends on what area you're in and a personal preference basically.

with my stupid 5600 I can't even run it DECENTLY with all settings on low, pos

I can run it at 1600x1200 4xAA 4xAF with the frames occasionaly slipping into the annoying, though never unplayable.

Honestly though, at this res, AA/AF is more about being a machosict than any real noticeable in the heat of battle image improvements.

mines high enough to see stuff through an unzoomed scope. some of you will know what i mean ;)
