More than 2 million US retailers will start accepting Venmo payments for online purchases. Originally started as a platform for friends to pay each other for cab fares or dinners, the digital wallet app as been a part of PayPal since 2013. Users can link cards and bank accounts to shop on most mobile sites that accept PayPal payments. The service has come a long way since its investigation by the FTC.

San Jose, California-based PayPal has been expanding its services to gain advantage over rivals in the digital payments market, particularly in P2P payments, where competition has intensified.
 
So is it like Paypal where both sides of the transaction get hit with fees?
