Path of Exile

I've shelved the game until new leagues. I've put my 1000... I mean 2000 hours into it, really enjoyed the ~70ish hours I put into my summoner in Ambush, but I've pretty much seen it all.

Currently I'm playing marvel heroes which is a completely braindead IWIN button game, but you get blow stuff as a superhero, and a change of pace from path's gloomy nature.

I also have grim dead installed and waiting to be played, just haven't bothered...not to mention Van Helsing 2 came out...

funny, i just stopped playing DDO and ESO to jump back into this game. My discharger witch is still op even after the changes. I have a lvl 83 marauder that has a blank skill tree. Was an infernal blow facebreaker build but I think I am going to turn it into a righteous fire guy and try that out.

did I loan my Bringer of Rain to someone on here? Been so long I can't remember who I loaned it to.

Yep. I have it and some of your gems. My online time is reduced to almost nothing these days due to work, but PM me and I can get your stuff back to you.

Got my righteous fire marauder up and running. clear speed is faster than my discharge witch - which is already pretty fast. I can certainly take down bosses much faster. Dominus' final form is dead in under 15 seconds.

However, this seems to be the most uber OP build I've seen http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/917173

It combines righteous fire with discharge and arc for extreme killing speed. The downside is it requires over 350 exalts worth of equipment. Don't think I'll ever play with that build.

I went back to Poe after eso but I was getting massive de-sync so I gave d3 a chance and loving that. If poe can get the desync fixed that would be awesome. Van Helsing 2 is also great fun.

Yeah I came back after half a year to see how the game progressed and quit after 15 minutes because the lag and desync is now worse than ever. Even worse than when it caused me to rage quit. I'm not going to put up with it again.

I'm still playing - can't seem to stop - the game just rubs me the right way. The ambush league continues to be cool with strong boxes making wealth acquisition a little easier. I started out the league with a poison arrow fire trap ranger that was total rubbish. I then moved onto lightning coil / eldrich battery / mind over matter / arctic armor scion which, while obviously immensely tanky, could only muster about 4000 dps. Clear speed was painfully slow in maps so I went the opposite direction for my next character. Now I'm doing a cast on crit witch who is a bit of a glass cannon. DPS is psychotic while the defense leaves a bit to be desired but I think I can get that sorted out.

I made a first try at Atziri on Monday, knowing that I wasn't quite ready for her but I wanted to get a feel for the mechanics. The "double Vaal" boss wasn't too bad, just keep moving around and you're sort of ok. I then made it to the "trio" bosses and got totally wrecked. I died a bunch of times while trying to figure out the rhythm and mechanics of the fight. I sort of got the feel for it but ran out of portals before I could finish. A bit more defense and I'm hoping to be able to finish the area.

Oh, and the day after the patch that rejiggered the unique drop ratios I had a Crown of Eyes drop. Sold it quick (for a very lowball 25 ex) and all my gear problems were solved.

I, too, am enjoying Van Helsing 2. I can't believe desync is still an issue in this game. That shit is completely game breaking for me in an aRPG.

then you've never read what the developers have said causes it *hint* the guy above linked a lengthy dev post about it. It will never go away completely.

So the game is always going to have a laggy feel to it, no matter what? Guess that saves me from ever reinstalling it again then.

I may sound a bit brash, but I don't even care to read a dev article that explains something wrong with your code/servers or whatever. I'll play it again if they can fix it.

It won't be fixed. Its the nature of the game, sadly. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial.

I'm still on my Marvel Heroes kick, which is attempting to "relaunch" itself with a expansion type patch "Marvel Heroes 2015", in hopes they can save their metacritic score (which is like 55 or something). Its a very very easy game, with a ton of grinding and repetition, but it is fun.

The expansion is touting a "first ever raid for an ARPG", 10man Molten Core type dungeon, with your typical "don't stand in the fire" "stack on X player, Run away from Y player" type stuff. I haven't played it yet but I'll prolly make a post about it later and necro the marvel thread once again.

I'll come back to PoE in the new 4mo league and give it another 40-100hrs, I'll likely be going melee that time, I've done way too many casters. It really depends on what they add into the league though.

Well multiplayer in Van Helsing 2 is P2P so as long as both of you have a solid connection everything wroks great. Diablo 3 just makes certain things unavoidable to mask the fact that you moved out of the fire, but the server and you are desync'd. In PoE it is server based so you might have some jackass DDOS'ing the server or something between you and the server.

The charm of PoE is the various types of attacks and the ability for your character to avoid them. That's why it is inevitable to have a certain degree of desync involved with it.

What I don't understand is that d2 had accuracy and the ability to dodge things, but never felt like poe does with regards to desync

Having never played D2.... Was it persistently online like POE was, or were all the calculations done client-side?

I play fairly regularly, right now working on a 72 summoner in standard. Might give another league a try eventually :p

I'm at 85 on my Scion right now and making good progress towards 86. It'd be faster if I didn't constantly run outta wisdom spells to ID blues but that's because I hate selling blues (from maps) to the vendor without Id'ing them first. If I concentrated only on rares I would not have this problem, lol

Just started playing again about to hit 70 on my summoner witch, can't wait to start running maps. also having fun running corrupted areas. seems like they spawn about 50%-33% of the time.

Have to haul some more commons and trade them for moar scrolls :p.

Still playing this now and again.. I'm still poor (surprise..,) but things are looking up.. All of my chars have had passive resets since the last time I played, and I'd love to get around to doing maps.. Need some guildmates tho.

I'll be back for new 4mo leagues (which will be a while since they are doing a 1mo league atm), but it really depends on how much new stuff they have in... I haven't touched the game in a while so I haven't tried out ball lightning or spell echo, two things that would probably make my currents chars much more powerful.

I guess I got my fill of the game mostly with the 2k hours I put into it.... STILL playing marvel heroes, have like 7 chars to 60, its just good mindless fun. The "raiding" is awful though and I hope they don't emphasize it in future updates.

I've been thinking about trying out some different builds lately other than my Scion but I'm undecided on which type of character to roll.

I have a 6L searing touch so I'll probably search for a build which utilizes it and see how it goes.

I told myself I'd take a break during the 1 month league but I caved pretty quickly and gave it a go. It's very fun having all of the various league mods mushed together in interesting ways. Having a rouge exile, an invasion boss, and a zone boss all show up in the same spot is hectic fun. I'm excited to see what the new 4 month leagues will be - ambush was by far the best one yet and I'm hoping they will step it up again.

After about a 4 month break I've really been having fun checking out all the new stuff playing in the 1MHC league. Between the Rogue Exiles, strongboxes, and Vaal corrupted areas there is certainly no shortage of loot or chaotic combat situations. At first I thought the Vaal skills were kinda useless but there are definitely some awesome panic-button or nuke skills you can use.

My first character was a lightning Witch focusing on Arc and the new skill Ball Lightning. Arc is beastly now, btw. Ball Lightning is cool but I RIPed at 49 on a strongbox before I really got it going; I had it linked with Slower Projectiles, Lesser Multiple Projectiles, and Lightning Penetration...it was great on large packs when I needed huge AoE.

RIPed a couple of other characters on strongboxes as well when I was tired and didn't bother ID'ing them...it's an easy way to get killed if you get walled in or frozen, etc. Now I'm running a Shadow focusing on buffing a Doomfletch bow that I found.

New "mini-expansion" comes out in under a month, which should bring us two new 4-month leagues. Definitely looking forward to even more content!

Some say that Dominus exiled the dregs of Oriath to the shores of Wraeclast. No, he exiled anyone who was going to give him trouble, who was going to cause ripples in his progressive theocracy.

Seven men and women, masters in their fields, stood against Dominus' tyranny. Some with words, others with steel. Seven masters forsaken, sent to die in a corrupted land. Seven masters who lived, learned, and now thrive in Wraeclast. Seven Forsaken Masters who can train you... if you choose to help them.

We've announced two of the seven Masters and will be revealing the other five over the next few weeks. Along with many unique mission variations, each Master has its own specialised crafting options, a different Hideout tileset and tiers of Hideout decorations to unlock.

Train with the Masters

As you roam the wilderness of Wraeclast, you will sometimes cross paths with the Forsaken Masters. All seven of them have their own unique missions that they either need your help with, or want to train you to handle. Haku asks you to cleanse an ancestral area and recover a lost Karui spirit. Vorici will train you in the art of assassination.

Completing missions for the Masters will increase your reputation with them. As you progress through the eight levels of reputation with each Master, you gain access to more of what they can offer you.

Dozens of Mission Variations

The seven Masters each have their own style of mission and each of these missions has many variations. As you explore deeper into Wraeclast, the pool of available variations increases to challenge you in new ways.

The Master Assassin, Vorici, may task you with aiding him in an assassination against one of a number of well-guarded targets, leaving no survivors. The guards may have powerful mods, or be protected by traps or Rogue Exiles. Or he may want to simply send a message by grievously harming his mark, or incapacitating and robbing him, or leaving a witness to the bloodshed. Perhaps you'll have to free and rescue a helpless hostage.

All of the Missions and their variations can occur anywhere in the game, including within end-game Maps.

hideout.jpg

Customise Your Hideout

In their extensive travels throughout Wraeclast, the seven Masters have discovered ideal locations for an Exile to use as their own secret Hideout.

Once you've earned a Master's trust, you may be taken to a Hideout, where you can create your own personalised town. Masters residing in your Hideout offer you daily Missions and train you in advanced crafting options.

Use your Hideout as a quiet place to craft after battle, or expand it and use it as a personalised Guild Hall with hundreds of decorations.

crafting.jpg

Upgrade Your Crafting Benches

Each master specialises in crafting different types of items. As you gain reputation with your chosen Masters, they train you in their various specialisations. At a Crafting Bench in your Hideout, you can manipulate items in new ways, such as modifying their sockets or crafting special mods.

As you level up your Masters, you gain access to more crafting options and special abilities such as being able to modify the sockets of corrupted items.

New Items and Mods

Not only can the Masters help you craft new mods onto your items, but they also function as vendors that sell you items ranging from Skill Gems to Unique items.

Mods added by Crafting Benches appear in a brighter blue on items (pictured to the right) so that it's clear which mod will be replaced if you craft another mod onto the item.

At higher levels, each Master also sells Magic items with a specific, new, build-defining mod. These can be used as-is or crafted further with either the new Hideout Crafting Benches or the traditional Orb system to create powerful items based around these mods.

The expansion also includes 16 new Unique Items, some of which are exclusive and may only be found in one or the other of the new Challenge Leagues.

skills.jpg

New Support and Skill Gems

Tornado Shot fires a piercing arrow that fires arrows in all directions upon impact.

Herald of Ice and Herald of Ash are self-buff skills that reserve some of your mana pool to add elemental bonuses to your attacks.

We've also overhauled many of Path of Exile's Curses and added some new ones such as Poacher's Mark.

The new Support Gem, Generosity, increases the effect of your auras on party members but prevents them affecting you.

leagues.jpg

New Challenge Leagues

With the release of Forsaken Masters, we're starting a pair of new Challenge Leagues - Rampage and Beyond. These leagues are self-contained economies and provide an opportunity for players to demonstrate their mastery of Path of Exile.

The new leagues contain eight difficult challenges. Players who complete five of these challenges will be rewarded with an exclusive microtransaction effect. Completing all eight challenges rewards you with another, different, exclusive microtransaction effect. The first 50 players to complete all of the challenges will receive a Rampage/Beyond t-shirt.

These challenge leagues last for three months. We'll be starting a second set of challenge leagues in December.

passives.jpg

Updated Passive Skill Tree

We've redesigned large portions of the Passive Skill Tree - mostly focusing on the Witch, Shadow and outer Ranger areas.

We've also made extensive balance improvements to the core game that are supported by these changes.

All players will receive an optional one-off passive tree reset so that they can adjust their characters to these changes.

Revamped Existing Content

During the development of Forsaken Masters, we've revamped many of the existing boss fights in Path of Exile. Encounters with Merveil, Brutus, Captain Fairgraves and other bosses have been made more intense and surprising.

We've also added more lore for you to discover as you explore Wraeclast. Snippets of Wraeclast's history can be unveiled as you discover lore scattered around the existing acts.

Coming on August 20!

Path of Exile: Forsaken Masters will be released at 3pm on August 20 (US Pacific Time). This is midnight in the CEST timezone and 10am on August 21 in New Zealand.

This article is not the full patch notes for Path of Exile: Forsaken Masters. We'll be releasing those patch notes a day or two before the expansion is released. There are dozens of other changes included such as a new Quest Tracker, Tutorials and PvP Spectator Mode.

We're so proud of this expansion and can't wait to share it with you. There are so many interesting mission variations to explore and powerful new possibilities with crafting. Half of our development team is addicted to building custom Hideouts! Over the next three weeks we'll be updating this article with reveals of unannounced Masters and other content. Enjoy!

This is looking damned awesome so far!

this does look pretty good. Basically, they're rolling out housing and dailies.. good deal. I do wonder how the passive reset will work and what all's being changed in those areas, tho.

I'll be rolling a new char in the new leagues either way, I'll be excited to come back after my stint in Marvel Heroes... poor Divinity might never get finished if I don't give it some time before Augh 20th though!

That looks really good. Looks like I'll being putting marvel heroes down as well. The aug 20 release date is in that range that blizzard can put out 2.1 for d3. My arpg time will have to be managed wisely.

Might come back to try out at that time. Maybe this new content will offset my disdain for the lag issues.

I love new content as much as the next player but when you cannot even fix server sync issues, you have no business adding more content that would cause even more sync/lag issues.

there is no fix to desync, so if that is preventing you from enjoying the game, then you're outta luck.

I know this has been beat to death, but I am still curious. How did D2 do it then? Was it not all server-side calculations?

What would be great is if they just had the clients request a resync to the server every 2 seconds or something.

D2 had lag and desync/rubberbanding.
