Unless you run into one of the hundreds of almost awesome items where it won't let you craft another prefix/suffix no matter what (but will allow you to throw exalteds at them all day long)

like the +24% Damage sash I have with +40%fire/lightning/chaos resists that won't take a +life mod...while I have 3 other dropped sashes in my stash with the same mods (slightly to moderately lower resists) but they have +life or +ar or +both +stun recovery on them...

Or like the blue moonstone ring I found with only 2 mods (+24 ES and +32% IIR) which is not craftable at all. (but I can throw regals and exalts at this one all day long, too)

Or the AR based chest I found which is not craftable...even though it's only got 4 total mods on it (+300AR +145%ar +92 life +38%fire resist)

There's no rhyme or reason to why they allow what they allow and why they deny what they deny.

Don't get me wrong...I love the addition of the masters, in general, and I do appreciate being able to add stats to some items to improve them. What I hate is the inconsistency of the rulesets governing crafting.

Oh damn, I didn't realize this. Glad to know now so when i go to craft something and can't, i'm not too put out. Still sounds really dumb. A bug perhaps? or just a way to limit good gear like with the light radius addition?

Any time a mod is not allowed on an item the crafting bench will tell you why. Just hover over the mod you want and it will explain the problem. Wrong base. Too many prefix/suffix. Etc.

To build on what alyosha said,

Blue items can only have 1 prefix 1 suffix, so if it has 2 mods you can never master craft more onto it until you regal it. Once you regal it you can then master craft onto it since it becomes a rare ite.

Rare items can only have 3 suffixes and 3 prefixes. Lists of what is a suffix and what is a prefix are available on the site for normal mods and on the wiki for master-crafting mods. You are also restricted from having 2 mods of the same "type" (as in, you can't roll life twice on an item).

Any time you can't craft something onto an item, the bench will tell you why, as alyosha said.

I've been slowly leveling a new Flameblast/Discharge Templar because, well, they've always looked fun and I've never tried it before and I wanted to give a played out build a try. I just scraped together enough currency to buy a Searing Touch and, holy crap, I now do all the fire damage. Flameblast is immensely powerful but slow and clunky to use. Discharge is just about as powerful but low mob density can make charge generation difficult. I think I'll probably end up switching back and forth between the two of them quite a bit. Either way, the ignites are real.

Flameblast is pretty cool. I hear throwing a spell echo on it pretty much charges it instantly.

I've yet to try spell echo but, yeah, it deals with the main drawback of flameblast (channeling time) at the expense of some damage. It does such absurd damage, though, the trade-off might not be too bad.

At some sort of low point in my humanity, i was watching global for a few hours last night and it was one of the topics of discussion. Real-time testing said it was pretty good, and definately worth a shot. Now i want to try a flameblaster.

Man. What a day. 40 dominus kills, nothing to show for it except for an acton's nightmare and a fuckton of currency, and then about 15 maps with a 6-man group. I'm.. tired..

Atziri farming is some nice variety :)

Well, that's part of the plan at some point. I needed to load up on currency to purchase a few things I needed for a RF build i've been working on. This should be the icing on the cake once i'm done leveling and get a few of the bugs worked out. We'll see.. In any case, to hell with Dominus, i'm tired of 'Gahd'.

Edit:

Messing with the equipment i picked up today for said build, i was tinkering with linking a belly of the beast.. I think i broke some sort of record. 1 jew for 5sockets, 4 fuses for 5links. I'm.. amazed. GGG has broken something.

I'm enjoying my flameblaster for the most part. I haven't logged in in a little while, been busy with other things, but the nice part is that he does well with truly crap gear. That being said, I don't know how much the damage would scale up *with* gear. Decoy totem and kill the whole screen at once...that's my defensive strategy lol

The offering to sell/buy in Global is getting out of hand.

GGG needs to implement a frikkin marketplace or Trade Tabs for your stash or something, and do it sooner rather than later. I'm pretty regularly watching global but all I see these days is people offering stuff for sale and people cursing them out for offereing stuff for sale in global chat.

I've taken to doing the following:

Jimmy_Ice(in global): Anyone got a really high Mana Regen Ring?
Me: Yeah Jimmy. I do.
Jimmy (in PM): Can you link it?
Me: Yeah I can! (goes back to playing game)
Jimmy(in PM): (about 30 seconds later): ?
Me: What?
Jimmy(in PM): Can you link it?
Me: Yeah I can! (goes back to playing game)
Jimmy(in PM): (about 30 seconds later): ?
Me: What?

Repeat until he stops asking and goes back to asking in chat...then I PM someone in Global to ask them to do the same thing...Me and a few other people were doing that to the guy and kept him tied up all evening until he rage logged.

Alternatively, I'll see a request for something in global, like, "WTS 5L lightning Coil. PM me offer!". I'll send them a PM using very broken english and usually offer things like slugs, or a dead fish, or a colossal leg from the masters decorations.

Oh...forgot to mention the guy who linked the 6L 800+DPS 2H sword in global and asked for a PC.

I told him (in all seriousness) that it's worth at least 10Ex and don't let anyone low-ball him.

He was like, "10Ex is a joke! I'm asking at least 100"

I was like, "Oh...so you were offereing it for sale? I thought it was just a PC."

him: "Nah...I was offereing it for sale in global because GGG can go fuck themselves with this fucked up rule about selling in global"

Reported with the note that "'Joe' said you guys can go fuck yourselves. He'll sell in Global if he wants"

Receive response in yellow "Thanks m8. we'll take it from here"

Never see another post from 'Joe' the rest of the weekend...

I've been watching global the past week or so, and this just made me laugh my ass off. Good job. It's not too bad, but usually when people ask in global, they either get a heckle, or actually get a little help. More of the former, though. I've been watching global 1. it's always worth a laugh.

+ infinity. I've been saying this forever, and they said they're 'working on something,' though apparently it's not very high on their priorities.

Trading just takes SOO damn long with the current system. Half the time the person thinks you're selling if you want to buy, or buying if you want to sell. Then you gotta spam a bunch of channels to get multiple responses from people in order to find a reasonable deal. It'd be SOOO friggin great to just open up someone's gem page and peruse their offerings.

Also, LOL at your interactions.

I've had positive experiences trading with poe.trade.. it's been pretty smooth. I decided i wanted to do a RF build, so i bought everything i needed that i didn't already have in under an hour.. and cheap too. Maybe it's just me.

Pretty much. Trying to buy/sell through trade chat is a mess. Contacting people to buy things listed in a shop thread is pretty painless. It often takes me a couple tries as you'll often catch people in a map or AFK but I seldom don't get what I want.

I'm not online enough to get much traffic from my shop thread, though. That and I'm not selling anything particularly good, so that hurts my chances too.

I'm right there with you...

I have a few pieces that are decent but I can't seem to get a good unique to drop no matter what I try. I've even taken to equipping IIR and IIQ items at the expense of HP/AR/resists just so I can improve my chances but at the map levels I run, it's not conducive to retaining a 10% chunk of XP

I haven't played the game in months but have you guys read the posts from GCPMan on the reddit sub?

He makes some really crazy insight into the RMT / Hardcore Trading world, it'll blow your mind just how much currency is circulated on a daily basis. (Like 1000x what I've ever gotten in the game)

Yeah, I saw all that. I just like killing monsters and getting loot. Well, and trying to dream up unorthodox builds. But there is a whole world of people playing a completely different game than me.

So what is the secret to running multiple auras? I'm trying to use only 2 and it's pretty much impossible. Do you just need an incredibly large mana pool/extremely fast regen, or am I missing something skill tree/gear wise?
Trying to run a lv 8, 11 or 15 clarity and lv4 haste leaves me with less than 100 mana, not even enough to cast a bear trap.

Are they attached to reduced mama support gems? Also there are talents which reduce reserved mana for running multiple auras.

oh shit I forgot all about reduced mana gems. The reduction nodes on the skill tree all seem so insignificant at like 3% and out of the way to even care about getting.

Yeah, reduced mana is pretty much required for auras. And, it's only slight hyperbole to say that there are only two ways to manage mana usage - either run skills off a blood magic gem, or use Eldritch Battery (plus clarity and discipline). I know there are other ways to do it but, to eliminate mana problems that's all I've found that works.

You've gotta stack glorious amounts of life/mana regen and run a higher level clarity/red mana once you get your mana pool up. it kinda sucks, but overall, it's worth while.. also, I science'd some Goldwyrm boots today.. ended up 4l(1 r, 3 white!) and i can't get a price from anyone on the damned thing. Ideas?

Goldwryms aren't particularly expensive to begin with and, while the 3 white sockets are nice, I think it's only worth much to a person who is trying to get a very tricky off color socket setup. I don't see any on poe.trade with three whites, so you have rarity going for you there. And there are a few with one or two white sockets which people have priced up near an exalt, but I don't think they'd ever sell at that price. You might want to trying throwing it out on trade chat for an exalt and see if you get any bites and then begin to lower the price if there's no interest. Or you might want to price check on the POE forum just in case I'm totally wrong and they're actually really valuable:eek:

I grabbed a reduced mana immediately after posting here, and it's working good atm. I can throw three fire traps, three bears and spell totem perfectly just as the pool drains to nothing. Had a ring in my stash the has 43% mana regen also, so that is helping aswell. thanks for the help.

Another quick question for all the poe pros here....Is it possible to get three red sockets on a dagger?

Is it possible to get three red sockets on a dagger?

Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

Vorici can roll 3 red sockets at level 6
At Least Three Red Sockets: 285x Chromatic Orb

Alternatively at level 3:
At Least Two Red Sockets: 25x Chromatic Orb

Damn that's good to know, I think I might have him at 4 or 5 by now. Thanks again!!!

Yeah, so tonight, I finally got around to upping my infernal blow gem's quality to 20.. so I did what any poe player should do.. Science! 23% quality baby! Stoked. All in all, it's been a good week.

My burning discharger is really hitting it's stride now. The tree looks like this at 76 and will probably look like this as I finish it up.

It's unbelievably strong at cleaning trash. Just walk into a room, pop enduring cry, curse with flammability, discharge and everything is gone. I use flame surge for cleanup as it does "more" damage to ignited enemies so it's good for helping bosses die more quickly. But, if you don't kill the boss with the first ignite, things get dicey. You need to get your charges back up with only one enemy in range and that can take a while when they're trying to kill you. For a lot of map bosses I'll switch back to flameblast to be a little more flexible. Flameblast may actually be more powerful than discharge but I just don't like all the standing around, waiting for it to charge.

Defense is mostly taken care of with a Lightning Coil and Arctic Armor. AA and a Ruby flask also seem to pretty well negate reflect. I've yet to kill myself on a reflect pack, or even get myself into trouble with it, so that's good.

And, if I can get the links worked out, I'm going to try making sporadic use of Righteous Fire. It adds a few more steps to my process but it gives an extra 5X% "more" damage which is always good. Basically, the process becomes, Enduring Cry - Flammability - Ruby Flask - Righteous Fire on - Discharge - Dispel Burning flask. Yes, terribly complex, but so much damage.

don't forget whenever you walk around with rf on, flame surge also gets a good 55% boost in spell damage. it's.. brutal. add to this the discharging, or in my case, the vaal molten shell i tick off on bosses, and it just gets sick.

I don't actually do any walking around with it on - having only 1% life regen. It's just for the quick moment before I discharge to give my ignites that extra potency.

you can save a point if you path via the int node touching avatar of fire instead of going the "inside" route.

Thanks. I had initially thought about taking the "Elementalist" node along that route at some point (and maybe the power charge) but I think the point is better spent elsewhere. I ought to change that around now.

how's that work?

A larger radius at 23% is the best possible corruption, since the scaling with level is somewhat pitiful. I blow up rooms now, just.. larger rooms. It's still just as fun, but it's always nice to put a 'prestige' piece on a char you enjoy playing. Also it bumped up the value signifigantly.

I just started playing this game a few days ago, slowly trying to learn all the stuff. I randomly picked a witch to start with, but I'm thinking of going back and trying another type of character. What is a good choice for solo playing? I'm interested in just doing the quests and stuff for now more than anything so I want to do it by myself and take my time with it.

Any character if you ask me. They all can kick ass alone.

Well not scion... But that's just my opinion. Their skillgem rewards are too unfocused

Has anyone noticed changes to weapon swapping? RF's benefits no longer seem to stay, even though the effect is still showing and my life is plummeting.

Not sure if this is intentional.

Yes, this is intentional. One of the last major patches fixed "snapshotting" such that only weapons and skill gems which are currently equipped will have an effect on your character. So if you want the dual Redbeak damage buff, you need to have them equipped and be on low life. There may be a few exceptions to this but it's pretty much completely fixed now.
