Whatever happened to these? They used to be a good option (although one could argue better ones exist now) for cooling, between noise and static pressure. Now I can't really find any anywhere.
 
It seems like there weren't nearly as many companies making fans then and if you wanted a high quality fan you bought commercial grade panaflo/delta/etc fans. Panaflos had huge fan hubs, I remember using a gutted fan as a spacer to limit the hub dead zone.
 
Oh they are still around. So are the mad deltas. I wouldn't drive any one of these from the motherboard.

Yeah that gutted fan frame as a spacer trick was a really good one for killing the dead zone.

Sidewinder has been out of stock on the old awesome fans for a while, Panaflos and Deltas both. Almost makes me wish I kept my hands on my old ones now. Those are expensive!

That's a 48 volt fan though, won't work without a fairly beefy boost converter.

If your goal is high end cooling opposed to quietness, these are VERY good fans for water cooling, especially with thick rads :

Don't mistake these for the 66 DB 38mm thick delta screamers though. These are a LOT more civilized. There are far quieter fans but I doubt you will find any that can shove more air thru a rad than these. Also @ .5a / 6.36w they work very well with pretty much all fan controllers. At lower speeds they will compete just fine with any of the static better pressure fans.There's an enermax enermax twister storm fan that is a little quieter and pushes about hair more pressure, but those are damn expensive ($36 US each) and I don't believe they are PWM fans.

I have 3 of them on the way. @$8.00 US each I couldn't pass them up :D

And here I was all excited about getting some 80Pa Ultra Kaze DFS123812 for under $12, premature bearing death and all. (On my client's insistence) :p

They are still around. Think I saw some on Amazon recently. Have a few of the 80mm Panaflo hydrowave fans from the old days. Great airflow at low noise levels but the large center hub makes them better for case fan use than CPU cooler.

Papst is another good one.
 
I remember Pabst's being reviewed on the quiet side.

I just miss thick 38mm+ fans that were still quieter. Gave better pressure numbers than 25mm fans.

I'll likely end up with a case full of Noctuas now.
 
I still have a couple of 38mm panaflows that I used with early liquid cooling of my old core 2 duo overclocking builds. When spun down they were pretty much inaudible, but spin them up and they pretty much drown out any other nose within 30 feet. I suspect they are still in a box somewhere in my basement. The old pabst fans were pretty nice for sure.
 
Those are the really slow speed ones. Haven't found a vendor for them that will actually put up a static pressure figure :(
 
I replaced the stock H115i fans with a pair of these https://noctua.at/en/nf-a14-pwm and replaced all my deltas with 4 of these mounted in my case (1 in the front, 1 mounted to my Sea Hawk on the front, 1 in the back and 1 on the bottom next to the PSU). https://noctua.at/en/nf-a12x25-pwm

Now my system is DEAD quiet, and water temps are in the upper 30s under full load running BOINC PrimeGrid 24/7, which is cooler than it was before. The 2 loudest components on my system now are the pump for the H115i and the PSU fan, unless I go full throttle with the Noctuas, but there is never a need for that as water temps are only 15C warmer than ambient.

I'm a huge fan of Noctua, worth looking into if you are looking for a quiet and powerful solution to your cooling needs. My Deltas were just waaaay too loud and provided the same level of cooling, if not less.
