I'm going to build a new good small computer for an RPG Game server, here is what I was thinking. Currently I only have $57 USD.

I was thinking on this:

INTEL PENTIUM 4 P4 1.3Ghz 256k 400 FSB 423 CPU SL5FW
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14293&item=6713599101&rd=1

or

AsRock K7VM2 Socket A XP DDR or SDRAM Video + Snd + Nic
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42012&item=6715049812&rd=1

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Palomino Processor

Help is appriciated.

Thanks & Regards

Hi, I dont know that much about older P4s but that looks to be a socket 423 and the mobo is a socket 478. May work but I would look into compatiblity first. Second, the mobo is $40, plus 10 shipping? It looks like a full featured mobo, but its still an ECS, and on a budget as tight as yours, 50 is too much for a mobo. If I had your budget, Id either find someone I knew that wanted to dump off an old computer, maybe a P3 or something, or I would save up about 20 more dollars and buy one of those cheap mobo/cpu combos at Fry's. Just wait for one of there cheaper specials, ie about 70-80 or so, usually has a 2.0-2.4 GHz P4 or a AMD 2200+-2600+ with an ECS mobo. Then get a stick of cheap PC2700 256 mb ram about 25.00, and a cheap HD like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=56084&item=5130960790&rd=1, and a really cheap case for like 50 dollars. Still gonna run you about 200, from my perspective. Hope this helped. Good Luck.

EDIT: as for the your AMD package, looks better than the P4 one, both the mobo and cpu are new, and cheaper. I'd would definately go with the 1700+ over the 1.3GHZ. And the AMD mobo has really sucky gfx onboard, so it would save you the purchase of a video card as long as an 8mb savage pro is enough for you. This mobo is nice and pretty cheap with onboard gfx http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-150-055&depa=0, but its micro atx.
