Overwatch Hits 10 Million Players

I'm not surprised. The game is rather well polished and even supported crossfire out the door with great scaling. Been having a lot of fun with a more casual multiplayer experience.

Impressive. I know several people playing it - haven't tried it yet. Will have to check it out (even though I suck at FPS).

Blizzard is really really good at capturing the kind of distilled fun that's almost simplistic, like great NES/SNES games that you could play forever. Overwatch is a great example of this. It's just super fun to play.

I want to play this....I just don't know if I want to spend $60. Looks fun.

I picked this up soon after release. It's fun and very polished, but could use a few more maps. I imagine they'll add more as long as those microtransactions keep coming in.

It's $40 for PC, don't bother with the special edition. It's a waste of cash.

I can't get into Overwatch. The character design is too simplistic (the characters really need at least one more weapon / skill), the 6v6 format is slow and boring, and it just feels like its a waiting game for using your ultimate abilities before anything interesting happens.

I thought $60 was too much to ask for a multiplayer only game without any character customization (other than skins and stuff), but I have already got my money's worth out of it. Great job Blizzard!

been wanting to play this, but the game does not support 21:9 resolution. I hope they would eventually support it.

now if only DOOM on the PC had that many I wouldn't have to wait between sessions for games

slow? where you been playing the matches? its a twitch fast run and gun game.

I like to play support classes, but my god is that a thankless task in this game overrun with Super LEET HEROEZ who run headfirst into the objective alone and die. Repeatedly, until the match ends.

Some run and gun followed by long walks back to the action (unless you get the rare teleport from a teammate). I mainly don't like the 6v6 format they've landed on - why lock everyone into 6v6? Make it more configurable so people can choose which mode they want to play.

Maybe I'm unfairly comparing Overwatch's format to my old days in TF2 and 32 player Counter Strike. It's just not enjoyable to me in its current form.

It's Blizzard. It WILL come. They add/remove features when the community requests.

And here comes Literally every other publisher with a copycat game in 3... 2... 1...

One more game, just one more. I say this over and over every time I play.

I can't end tonight on a bad note.....I am on a roll now can't quit when I'm on fire......can't end on a bad note.......over and over and over

It's no problem, cause the game seems designed for the more casual gamers. Hit boxes are pretty large and you don't even have to kill people to help your team out.

Depending on the hero you decide to play, depends on what you do. I mostly like your defending or support classes. I'll have a match where all I do is setup turrets and a teleporter. Then I stay in the back trying not to get killed. Other times I'll be straight in the action, just healing other people and dodging bullets.

For the most part, I prefer to play Mei, as she's probably one of the most troll characters in the whole game. I just run and use my ice spray to freeze people. It does low damage and doesn't require any real accuracy. It just, freezes a person for a few seconds, allowing the rest of my team to kill them. That or I build a temporary ice wall to block or split the opposing team. I don't think there's any players that doesn't think she can be super annoying.

Right now they're doing a weekly brawl where you don't get to select your character. It's random heroes. So if you die, you just get whatever hero the system gives you after respawn.

It's map designs that keep it from being possible to really have more. Once all 12 players are in an area, it feels very crowded. They'd have to make larger maps and have multiple objectives you can capture at the same time. New game modes would help too.

Something like obtain/maintain the objective, while another portion of your team is escorting the payload towards that objective you're trying to take. That way you can break it up into a 6v6 type games, which can lead to a 12v12 when the payload nears the objective.

I need to put some time into this game. The few minutes I spent with it was fun. I've just been busy with The Division. I put UC on PS4, DOOM, and ROTR to the side. I think 6v6 is a good size for casual players. The game reminds me of TF2 but with more polish.

The game is an arcade shooter and is heavily centered on team play. More than 6v6 would literally break the game and certain characters. As much as people compare this to TF2 it just isn't. More game modes, maps and heroes will eventually come but what Blizzard has stated is that they never want to break up team play. So any mode/map/hero that makes playing as a team or makes a certain hero obsolete they will not implement that feature. Henceforth no team death match. If you went into this game as a lone wolf run and gunner, you are going to have a bit of difficulty raising your MMR.

My .02$

Edit:
Here is more from Jeff Kaplan on what I was talking about (kinda)

I never played small scale shooters much. I've always enjoyed large scale games like the BF series. I played CS back in the dinosaur ages of huge LAN parties lile MML and LANwar, same goes for the weekend parties at friend's houses, but only during those events. Never touched TF. However, with this success, it's doing something right. I see lots of D3 players with the Overwatch wings on their toons. Perhaps it's time to give this a go when season 6 is over.

They prurposly disabled all 21:9 resolutions, saying it gives too much of an advantage. There are 3 threads in their forums with over 1000 posts saying this needs to change. Nothing has been done and they keep locking the threads. Way to listen to the community Blizzard. I get they are trying to get into the competitive market but even CS GO and TF2 allows 21:9, oh and 4:3 which Overwatch disables.

There are over 7 different manufactures for 21:9 monitors, some as low as $149, they really need to get with the times.

I wonder why they dont do what they did with Diablo 3? They locked the scale, so regardless of resolution, you still only saw the same amount of the screen.

needs more content, more maps, more modes, and would be great to see at least an 8v8.

Oh crap, for real? I saw $60 but didn't read it fully. Thanks for the heads up!

You can get the origins edition for 50 on cdkey. Im not one for taking money from blizzard but I always end up buying 2 of everything from them so me and wife can play together.

10 million at $40/copy? That's $400 MILLION in a few weeks. Not bad, not bad at all.

At minimum. I bet a lot of the sales are the $60 version, since they bury the crap out of the $40. You have to really look around on battle.net to find that $40 version. I preordered the $60 version, cause I didn't even know there was a $40 version. $40? $60? Whatever. I feel the game is well worth either of those prices.

I've got more play time out of Overwatch than I have with Rise of the Tomb Raider, R6 Seige, and The Division combined.
