i've noticed from alot of people that the x800pro has a very nasty overclock. like 560 core clock. How would this match up to the xt pe? anyone know a website with benches? I have a preorder at gateway, and thinking about canceling it and just going ahead and buying a pro. save 100 bucks and be able to play alot earlier. I'm still using a gf4 4600 so im kinda dieing here on image quality

Well even if the X800Pro were to be overclocked to higher speeds than the X800XT-PE it would NEVER be as fast. This is due to the fact that teh X800XT has 4 more pixel pipelines and about 33% more fill rate than the X800Pro. The real reason why the two are so close in benchmark testing right now has to do with CPU limitations on current games.

But in situations that are less CPU limited those 4 pixel pipelines count for alot. The real world difference is being able to run UT2004 at 1600x1200@32bpp with 4XAA and 16XAA instead of doing the same thing on an X800Pro at 1280x1024. Don't get me wrong the X800Pro is fast enough to run alot of things at 1600x1200, just not as well as the X800XT does.

Still the X800Pro is no slouch. If your lucky you can unlock the other 4 pipelines and turn your X800Pro into an X800XT without the Rage threatre chip. But if not the X800Pro is a HUGE upgrade over the 9800XT. Just not quite as huge as the X800XT.

I would recommend anyone who has the money should go for the X800XT instead of the Pro. Unless you've got to have it now or unless you get a smoking deal on a X800Pro.

Right now the Pro is close to the same cost as the X800XT. As the X800XT's actually make their way onto shelves they should get to their MSRP price brakets of $399.99 for the Pro and $499.99 for the XT.
