Wait a second, I thought demos were supposed to be a bad idea? You know, the more I hear about the OUYA, the more I like it.

"It cleans up the app store," she said. "It removes the confusion between a paid app store and a free app store. We also think it cuts down on the copycat games, where you have games that look like each other and one is paid but the other is free and you don't know what to do."

I think the important thing about this news is that it will use one entry to combine the free version and the paid version of the same application, making it easier to navigate.

Seems like it'll compromise between a console's game downloading service and Android's Play store. Makes sense to me.

Same here. I love more competition, especially when they're really trying to bring something new to the table.

My fear, though, is that the features won't be enough to overcome its still-unknown brand. Then again...I've been surprised at how many people I've known who have bought Rokus, despite not being heavily technically inclined.

Yep same here, I would say in the console market it takes years to build a brand, the problem with OUYA is that Sony and Microsoft were selling you products for years before they broke into the gaming space.

Except the Ouya is in no way competition for the PS4 or next Xbox. Not even counting the fact that those two will be vastly more powerful, but look at the quality of games on the Android Play market. The large majority are complete shit, and most of the good ones are only fun as 10 minute "time wasters". If you think the Ouya is going to change any of that, then you're in for a big disappointment.

I have one coming in March. Can't wait. The ultimate console emulator. Had a chance to play Neo-Geo King of Fighters on one here in Kansas City some guys brought up to Google Fiber Space. Was 100% spot on.

This is what has to stop. Everyone thinks that OUYA is just for playing games from the play store as we know them now. There are numerous titles that are currently in development that are being built around the console. We won't be just playing Fruit Ninja and Draw something with this thing....Those games are meant for phones and not for use with a controller. From what I understand as well, the OUYA won't have direct access to the playstore, but their own portal for all these new games. I doubt you'll see the "10 minute" time wasters showing up there.

I fully expect there to be a range of new and exciting games from COD style FPS to Racing sims and RPG's. Maybe even some RTS.

I want to comment on Ouya cause a lot of people think this console has something to do with Xbox and Playstation. it doesn't. It's not even in the same league or universe for that matter.

Simply put, it's just a hardware delivery for the home television that RE-SELLS android games off the android market place. It's a new / different source of revenue for the developers of those games and apps.

Let me decipher "Ouya Exclusive" for some of you. It means, developers used the Ouya SDK to add on controller support to their Android game. Nothing more.

In a way, a lot of you are being trolled. Think about it.

Now, if you bought it for porn, music, video or emulators, you're one of the smart ones.

If you bought it to play Android Phone Games. Enjoy your Fruit Ninja Clone(s) with newly added joystick support!

Yes, but so far the only real market for Google Play is smartphone and tablet devices, both of whom are still just beginning to take market share from Apple devices. However, that market share is growing at a steady rate, while Apple's is very volatile. Once bigger publishers have a reason to put decent titles on Android(i.e. once the customer base is considerable) they'll start putting more effort into the ports. Additionally, if Ouya gets at least a year jump on any potential Apple console, then the viability of other Apple devices as "gaming" will quickly(and satisfactorily) decline.

I have a Nexus 10 tablet that's pretty bad ass. I've played all the big titles from Google Play and guess what. They are fun for about 10 mins if that.

For some reason you guys are thinking that these games are developed with skill and long play in mind for the end user. That's just not the case. These are fun little airport / doctors office and road trip games meant for tiny phone screens and / or tablets.

Seriously lol. Those games are now coming to the Ouya with added controller support.

Lower your expectations down ... a lot.

Look at the hardware and the limitations of the platform. Your expectations are completely unrealistic. This is the point many of us have been trying to drive home to people. I believe competition is good, but the Ouya does not compete with this generations consoles, much less next gen. It has the power of mobile device (extremely limited) without the mobility. So it doesn't compete there either. So it fills this weird space between old consoles and mobile devices without the benefits of either. It could be a runaway success, but chances as pretty damn slim and believing otherwise is naive.

What he said.

1080p is cool and all but the texture memory on the Tegra3 is pretty small so when those android games do get added to the ouya market place with hacked in controller support, yes, please do expect suspect texture resolution on youy

The OUYA isn't suppose to compete with the next gen consoles. Where did I ever say that it would? Yes it is a mobile processor, but it's not restricted by thermal limits and battery usage like a phone is. You can get more power out of the Tegra 3 in this package, but obviously not the same as next gen console's. I'm also not seeing how my expectations are unrealistic? From what I've seen from the Unreal engine on my DNA running at 1080p. I'd say that I have a lot of faith in what developers can do with it and future mobile game engines. It's not always about Crysis level graphics, but good game play.

Maybe you're missing the point I'm trying to make? I'm not sure. I agree with you that this isn't going to compete with next gen consoles. It would be crazy to think that. But why is it so bad to have high expectations in this given what we have seen mobile graphics can push out?

All you people are every going to see are games brought over from the android market place that were originally designed for mobile phones with added controller support.

The types of games you will see will absolutely not be in-depth or require skill.

And for gods sake, please stop talking about real consoles like the xbox and playstation. They have absolutely zero to do with anything related to Ouya.

Makes me wonder if the new Rise of the Triad is going to be shareware. Apogee said something like that. I am so looking forward to playing this game in multi :D
