i need to figure out what OS i want to use for my new server.

i will be using it as a web server, file server, media server, htpc.
i want to be able to code on it and i love ubuntu for coding in.

i am not sure how well ubuntu would be as a media server and htpc, as far as the drivers go. sound drivers have always seemed pretty poor in ubuntu.

if i went with ubuntu then i would only use ubuntu for everything.

if i went with windows, then i would be using ubuntu in a VM for coding purposes, but how slow would that be? especially if i remoted in from a computer on the lan.
and which which windows should i use? vista? server 2008?

i also have the ATI 650 tv tuner and i need it to work properly

server specs:
e5200
ASUS P5Q-EM
4GB ram
640GB hdd for OS and w/e else
3x1TB for storage

Vista x64 with Ubuntu in a virtual machine using the VM software of your choice (I prefer VirtualBox)

I would advise against using Server08 as a host OS if you're going to be using it as an HTPC also

I use server 08 as my main OS but it has it's issues when it comes to the HTPC side of things like media center and WMP sharing and more
I have a separate box as my server/htpc and I flattened it and put it back to Vista
