Orion Span Wants to Build a Space Hotel

Curbed says the Houston-based startup Orion Span wants to build a fully modular space station that functions as a high end hotel. According to the company's plans, the hotel will be able to host up to 6 people for 12 days at a time. Trips start at a cool $9.5 million per person, but the company says they also accept payments in the forms of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin.

Unfortunately, all the extra traffic seems to have taken Orion Span's website down, and they just took down the video of the hotel's interior, but you can still see some renders of the space station's exterior in the video here.

The Aurora Station hotel is set to launch in late 2021, is looking for investors, and will host its first guests in 2022. If you have the cash-including a refundable $80,000 deposit-and want to live out your astronaut dreams, travelers have to undergo a three-month certification program to prep for space. But that's a small price to pay for adventuring in the final frontier.

That is true. The accepting cryptos as payment makes it sound very fishy (as if the rest doesnt).

But they do say they have a holodeck you can play on!

I think that the target market for this grows by one every minute.
 
How can you expect them to build a hotel in space within 2 years if they can only afford a crappy web cam to make their client pitch video? Also, you'll note an even more crazy claim if you watch the linked video: They will also be the "first to provide purchasable land in space." Sounds legit.
 
Pretty easy to see these guys are a scam and completely delusional if they believe it can be done with current technology. A project like this would require billions and would be unsustainable.
 
I don't need to go the moon I would just be happy to orbit the earth before I die. I would like to do so for under 100k. Space elevator, rocket ship, slingshot, whatever works.
 
Yeah, this isn't possible in the time frame. Bigelow Aerospace has been working on this for almost 20 years, with private funding, three flying prototypes and NASA backing, and they still aren't ready to put the B330 / XBase into orbit.

Everyone expects entrepreneurs to talk out their ass (at least a little bit) but no one listens to you until you prove you can do it (people like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos).
 
Would be hard to keep a lid on certain sightings up there, 'national security' trumps all.
 
Would give new meaning to the mile high club. :eek:

Being that the "rooms" would be weightless, I wouldn't want to breath the air after the first several visitors left :yuck:

yeah, when i first read this, i was thinking somehow bigelow HAD to be involved. they are the only ones even remotely able to do this. but the time frame.. nope

we will not even have a man rated launch vehicle until 2020. spacex will get it done by then, but that isnt going to be cheap enough for people to pay 10mill per shoot

Maybe they will use a slingshot like in the Angry Birds movie :p
