Alas poor Rickroll, we knew you well. Passing into Internet history, YouTube has blocked the original version of arguably the ultimate Internet meme, Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up, better known as Rickrolling in several countries. It did have a long Internet run, lasting over seven years. Here’s to you Rick. :D

Just think of all the lost sales of Rick Astley videos because this video has been posted, an agregious act against the rights holders. Thank goodness our copyright law protects them.

Indeed, that kinda rampant free publicity can kill an artist's career.

you must be one of those younger kids who's attention span shifts from minute to minute, never appreciating history, or enjoying a blast from the past.

Nope I just don't appreciate this being sent internally in the company I work for. Shit has gone on long enough.

Not sure about the rest of you but when I clicked on that Mashable link, I was about 75% sure I was going to get Rickrolled!! At least I was mentally prepared for it!!

Now where's that photo of Steve in a bra...

I felt a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of URL links suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I always said I'd stop using Lynx once the Rickroll video disappeared. Fool me once and all that. Now I can finally see what this youtube thing is about!

I wandered around
The streets of this town
Trying to find sense of it all
The rain on my face
It covers the trace
Of all the tears I'd had to waste
Why must we hide emotions?
Why must we never break down and cry?

All that I need is to cry for help
Somebody please hear me cry for help
All I can do is cry for help

It's not over, the video is still up on VIVO. I can't believe the pirated version lasted this long.

IMO it shouldn't be copyrighted in 2014 anyway, enough time has passed that it really belongs to the public at this point, and the creator has had ample time to make money off of it.

Considering the rapid pace of our cultural and technological development in this day and age, copyrights shouldn't last more than 20 years. /endrant

Even 10 imho, I don't know of many jobs where you get something done and then benefit from it for 100 years, you gotta keep working and creating more art, isn't that the whole point of copyrights to begin with? Promoting the arts? It's not for promoting lazy rich artists.

Or rather rich lazy record companies actually, even worse.

Guy is legend now =) His 80s UK voice made him popular same with Tears for Fears U2 and all those other guys like Howard Jones Thompson Twins.

It came up under 'new posts' lol didn't notice the date there. I suppose they should delete any post older than a few weeks to be safe. :)

Wow even VEVO decided to take it down due to licensing issues. I can't believe the record company asked for more royalties based on the songs popularity!
