I just placed my order this morning. Now, after some reading, I think I might have made some poor choices. Here is what I ordered.

ASUS P5K3 DELUXE - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131181
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115017
SeaSonic M12 SS-600HM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151030
2 x SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820609237
4 x Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136012
2 x SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152052
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835109140

1. What I plan to do is run the 4 Raptors in raid 0+1 and run the other two Samsung drives as storage drives with different names/letters. Will this be possible with this m/b? I've heard this board is having problems with sata drives and raid. Is this true, and if so, are the experts at ASUS working on this to sort this out?

2. Will the Ram I ordered work with this board? I ordered the highest speed rated ram I could get for future upgrade-ability. Now I'm a worried that I should have just got something rated for the board. Did I mess this up?

Forgive me for the noobie questions. Its been a while since I built my last computer and I really haven't been stayin up to date on everything. My 3.2 478 northwood gave up yesterday.

Yes, np, be sure to install the "pre-install" raid driver during the beginning of OS installation by hitting the F6 key, you will probally need a floppy drive, it might could use a USB drive but not sure. The F6 prompt to "load 3rd party drivers" comes early in the install and does not stay on the screen long, be ready. I am sure if there is an issue they are working on it. I suggest you download the board manual ahead of time, in the back I bet they have a step by step example of setting up a raid and it would be good to read it several times to get ahead of the game. Saves a lot of "cussin" and was probally the best thing I did when my board was "on the way".

Yes np that I can see. Nope cant go wrong, it will work fine and give rooom for OCing if you wish.

I know you did not ask specifically for this, but a word of caution : avoid updating the BIOS with Asus update in Windows. Many (myself included) had to RMA the P5K Deluxe because of a failed flash.

This might not apply to the P5K3, but I would use EZ Flash 2 just to be on the safe side of things. ;)

I agree, I use EZ Flash 2 with a USB thumb drive and I have to admit it IS EZ.:D
Ive read many bad reports of FUBAR'd updates with the windows application.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the manual and it really doesn't give too much detail for setting up raid 0+1. I will have a floppy drive. I figure for just a few bucks, they're convenient to have installed. I know this is such a new board that not many people have it yet. Any more info anyone can provide would help me out.

Thanks for the heads up on the ez flash. I see people are having issues.

wow, that's some extremely expensive ram. solid setup though from what i can see.

Well, it was upgrade time. This build is going to have to last me a few years. I really struggled with the ram. It was way more expensive than I ever imagined myself buying. It came down to this, use my xp pro for another year or so and get this ram, or go 4 gigs of ddr2 and get vista ultimate. In the end, I just said wtf, and went for the ddr3. I think I'll be better served waiting for vista to mature a little while longer.
