Hey guys..

Have a Gigabyte DS3R and 2 x 1gb Ballistix DDR2 800..
Also running a 750 Quad PSU so power is not an issue..
The cpu will also be watercooled..

I think I should stick w/ a 1066 fsb cpu due to the oc'ing multi's etc..

I want to stick in the E6420-6750 range w/ all in between being an option obviously due to price vs performance ratio unless their is a better choice..

Plz post your opinions.. They are always useful and appreciated..

Without knowing what you are using the computer for, I'd guess they are all overkill. So get the cheapest one.

Yeah more info on what you''re planning to do with this PC would help. Oh and the E6750 is suppose to be the E6420's replacement in the $186 price bracket. But due to really high demand, the E6750's price has gone up $20 or so. Meanwhile the dwindling stocks and somewhat high demandof the E6420 has kept the prices of the E6420 at about the same.

Since you are watercooling, I recommend going withe E6750. It can reach far higher OCs than the E6420 if properly cooled.

Sorry guys.. games games and more games.. OC'ing is also mucho importante..

Well here's the thing: It's been shown that the E6750 and the E6850 generally have the same OC headroom. Both allow for a 3.6-4ghz OC on high end air, which, of course, is very impressive. With the 6850's multiplier at x9 (compared to the 6750 at x8,) you can buy cheaper PC-6400 RAM (preferably with Micron D9 chips, such as the Crucial Ballistix, as you'll still need to OC them above 800mhz for a 4ghz OC.) You'll also put less stress on the RAM and Mobo, as you can achieve the same OC w/o cranking up the base FSB as much.

However, if the price difference between the E6750 and E6850 still warrants buying pricier RAM for the higher FSB overclock needed to achieve the same result, and if you're not concerned with the little added stress to the other components, then I'd go with the E6750.

Mark.

I'm confused. You said you want to stick with 1066FSB, but then mention the E6750, which has a 1333FSB. And the range you mentioned, E6420 - E6750, isn't a range. The E6750 replaced the E6420. Its just an E6420 with a higher stock FSB.

E6420: 8 * 266 = 2.1Ghz, DDR2-533 << STOCK speeds
E6750: 8 * 333 = 2.6Ghz, DDR2-667 << STOCK speeds

E6600: 9 * 266 = 2.4Ghz, DDR2-533 << STOCK speeds
E6850: 9 * 333 = 3.0Ghz, DDR2-667 << STOCK speeds

Since you already have the Ballistix and watercooling, go for the E6850 and push it to its max. If you'd rather not, then the E6750 would be your best choice, as Mark stated.

E6750: 8 * 533 = 4.3Ghz, DDR2-1066 << you'll most likely hit this with either chip (I'm just guessing so, since you have watercooling)
E6850: 9 * 533 = 4.8Ghz, DDR2-1066 << I'm curious if you could reach this, lol

Thanks Mark and enginurd.. You guys opinions are very helpful..
I was concerned w/ the OCing potential of the higher FSB 1333 cpu's vs the 1066 ones due to the lower multipliers..

Well..

Went with the E6750 from ZipZoomFly.. $199.90 w/ FREE Shipping..

Thanks again guys !!

Will let you know the OC numbers I get..
